I'd love to get into board games (we should have an S2 nerd group).

But as of now, I play way too much Hassle: The Dorkening

Denny this is getting out of control!

Settlers of Catan or Power Grid.

Settlers of Catan is complicated to explain.

Power Grid is capitalism at it's finest. You bid against other players on power plants once per round, IE coal fire, oil, hybrid oil/coal, industrial waste, nuclear, or renewable/green. Then you have to buy the fuel once a round. At this point you can buy in excess to artificially drive the prices up as well against your opponents if they have diversified. You need the power plants running to get more money for each round. The first who you can power 10 power plants you win.

It depends on the games you like.

Here is a go to games store for Portland http://www.ggportland.com/

For a beginner game nerd, probably start with Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride. After you want to branch out a bit -- Alhambra can be fun, maybe throw in a deck building game like Dominion. One of my favorite games, that will take quite a while to play is Starfarers.

Board game groups exist. The people are fascinating. But boy, it's like High School all over again. So much drama. Never getting laid.

Eastoff if you like Powergrid, you might check out McMulti -- now called Crude.

Guardian Games is dope. I play mtg there every weekend. The bar is insane when there's tables full of war games
