<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Rod Thorn said his team never got involved in the pursuit of Pau Gasol, who was sent to the Lakers yesterday for a promising rookie point guard the Grizzlies didn't need (Jarvis Crittenton), two draft picks that figure to be in the mid-20s, and expiring contracts.
"They've been shopping him for a while. They were looking to clear cap space and (get) draft picks," Thorn said of Memphis. "In the short term, it really strengthens the Lakers."
The Nets didn't have the salaries to get up to Gasol's $13.7 million. The Grizzlies have no interest in Vince Carter ($13M), and even if the Nets were going to sacrifice one of their three youngest players, they couldn't put together enough contracts to match that of the Memphis center.</div>
Magloire 4 million dollar expiring contract
Nachbar 2.5 million dollar expiring contract
Wright 1.68 million expiring contract
Armstrong 1.2 million expiring contract
Allen 1 million expiring contract
A first round pick + Sean Williams
Ummm...Didn't the Nets have the pieces? Losing those bench players is not that big of a loss, they were replaceable. Sign a guy like Bobby Jones to replace Wright. And then get Navarro + Swift for Collins.
Kidd/M.Williams
Carter/Navarro
Jefferson/Jones
Gasol/Swift
Krstic/Boone
And when you read "what?" in the title, this is how it sounds like:
