<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Nets president Rod Thorn traded for backup swingman Bernard Robinson on Wednesday. But that could be only the first deal for the Nets before the Feb.22 trading deadline.

According to one Western Conference executive, "The Nets are trying to do everything they can" to make a move that will jumpstart their season."

The executive said that they would even deal Jason Kidd if the right trade came along, although his age and contract make him difficult to move.

Vince Carter has the most appeal, although he can opt out of his contract after this season. Carter's name has been linked to the Clippers, who are trying to move Corey Maggette and Cuttino Mobley. But the Nets don't see them as a sufficient upgrade.

"What normally transpires between Jan. 15 and the trading deadline is that a lot of teams figure out, 'We're not what we thought we were,'" Thorn said. "But this year, it's taken teams longer because everybody in the Eastern Conference - and I'm even including Philadelphia - has a chance, particularly in our division."</div>
First of all, I don't believe that Jason Kidd bullsh** for a second. Kidd isn't going anywhere, and Thorn would be stupid to move him. He's the leader of that team, he has given his all to that organization and he has led them to the Finals, he loves it in New Jersey, and even if they did that and trade him... they wouldn't get anywhere close to equal value. He's aging and he has a big contract, that alone is not going to get equal value in it's on respect, but Kidd's leadership, intangibles, and experience would be impossible to move. And once again, a terrible mistake.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Sources say the Nets and Bulls had exploratory trade discussions centering around Richard Jefferson.

It is unknown how serious the talks were, though the Bulls front office reportedly like Jefferson's game.</div>
I don't think New Jersey would get all that much in return for Jefferson from Chicago, and I don't think RJ to Chicago would be right for the Bulls. They have a young player, at RJ's position, that is going to be a better all-around player than him in about 2 years from now. They have Andres Nocioni. They have Ben Gordon, Tyrus Thomas, and Thabo Sefolosha. Trading one of those good young players for Richard Jefferson would be a mistake by the Bulls. They need some scoring, yes, but not perimeter scoring. Their entire team is loaded with perimeter players that can shoot the basketball, they need a scoring big man.
