QUOTE

The Nets announced Wednesday afternoon that Marcus Williams has undergone successful surgery to repair the fractured fifth metatarsal of his right foot. Williams will be on crutches for two weeks and is expected to return to action in six to eight, which would be November 14-28. That has him missing between seven and 15 regular season games.

Looks like we're going to let him clear waivers and gamble on him picking us. Looks like another money move, saves about 500,000.

Is this whats going on? I was wondering why no official news has broken about this alleged waiver pick up

I don't know how much I like that plan

Armstrong was/is on a multi year vet minimum contract. The NBA usually pays out 500,000 of a vet minimum one year deal, I guess this was part of the last CBA to help protect the older player's jobs. Since Armstrong's deal with Indy is a multi year one, the league won't pick it up. So if the Nets were to claim him, they would pick up the contract as is.

The thing I'm guessing could be happening, is that the claim period is not over, so a team with a worst record than the Nets could pick him up. so we're just waiting for that period to expire. NBA waiver period is 48 hours.
