One little trade you might have skipped over. I might not have noticed it except I drafted this guy as a two way player in one of our draft games here.
Nickeil Alexander-Walker I understand his stats weren't good after 3 years in the league (partially due to some injuries). and we probably didn't have him long enough to see him in more than one practice, but after ending up in Minnesota, he played probably the best defense against Jamal Murray of any one in the playoffs. I also saw a Denver player recently said that Minnesota was actually their toughest opponent in the playoffs. Anyway, we sent him off for Joe Ingles and his expiring contract, We got a second round pick back.

Thybulle can defend and play both SG and SF on offense.
Simons is a much better shooter and can play some PG.
So it is true they do compete for some playing time but we need both types of players IMO
If we traded Ant we would need to have a backup PG and a shooter off the bench.

Personally, I would love to see us get Simmons, who could start at forward and run the 2nd unit with a couple of shooters. (Simons being one of them)

What? Two TOTALLY different players who bring two TOTALLY different things to the court. Hope we keep BOTH.
but one is not too expensive, and the other is kinda spendy. Didn't you listen to the podcast? If the Blazers GM has done such a marvelous job liquidating talent for future picks, why stop at Anfernee?

That’s not what we said on the podcast at all though lol

We mentioned him briefly. He did play some nice defense in the Playoffs.

This is what Silver was referrincing:

Article VI on Player Conuct, Section 18, regarding Trades.

"Any player (or, for clarity, any player representative or person acting with authority on behalf of a player) who publicly expresses a desire to be traded to another Team shall be subject to a fine and/or suspension.

The maximum fine that may be imposed by the NBA on a player persuant to the foregoing shall be $150,000."

Now, that isn't much money, but at least it is something and Silver finally addressed.

I posted the same info you have here in Kingspeed's thread. You posted first, I wasn't stealing your stuff. I was just on the other thread listening to your podcast and putzing around there on a tangent. Good podcast and happy birthday.

Thanks, and no worries. That happens quite a bit. I should have referenced that in the Pod and just forgot.

It looks like we might share birthdates... except I know which day I was born (29th).

I thought mine was the 29th for quite some time. Then the 'oddities' started setting in.

Nate and Larry discuss the legal powers that Adam Silver has according to the by-laws of the NBA to veto any transaction.

- Excerpt from Henry Abbott podcast where he discusses what Aaron Goodwin told him two years ago about Dame potentially holding out.

The more info that comes out of this the worse Damian is looking. It's one of the bigger self inflicted reputation hits I've seen in a long time.

Abbott does not seem the type to just make stuff up. And based on what he recently said, he had good reason for what he believed. Looks like he was right. Doubtful we see many mea culpas.

The NBA is not going to veto a Lillard trade if multiple 1st round picks for Lillard are in the package. It's impossible to predict which diamonds in the rough will become high value showcase pieces.

If the Miami package for Lillard was Kyle Lowry, known scrubs, injured players & a few 2nd rounders.... mmmmMaybe the NBA would step in and stop the trade.

If the Heat package is what we've heard,
Herro, multiple 1sts, perhaps a young healthy player with potential... it's no Rudy Gobert moment but it's not an entirely lopsided package.

That's a separate topic.

We have established that Silver CAN veto.

Would he veto? I don't know. I have a feeling that there has been a lot of pressure from other small market GMs to step in.

It would take a majority of owners asking for veto. It would take lopsided balance of power and inability to offer a trade package for the deal in question.

A 33yr old 6'1" PG to a Miami team that finished regular season 8th in the East does not shift balance of power. And so far nothing has prevented any team from offering a Lillard trade package, other then Dame's grumpy agent doing his job trying to sell his client to the team he wants to play for.

The 2011 Chris Paul for crack pipe Lamar Odom trade was vetoed for clear reasons>> The Hornets did not have an owner. The NBA had temporary control over NOLA. The remaining owners got mad because it was such a blatantly lopsided trade. The temporary internship GM's running New Orleans got all buddy buddy with Kobe and the Lakers, and turned down better offers for CP3 from other teams.

There was legit skullduggery in the CP3/Odom trade.
Lillard going to Miami for a rebuilding package is not anything the other 28 owners would raise a stink about, because nobody has offered anything else for Lillard's extended Supermax contract with Cronin's signature on the bottom.

Good to see you back Nate and always enjoy talking Blazers. Looks like maybe things are starting to heat up. I have to transition from summer sports back to basketball.

Thanks for the podcast. Like the idea of the Utah rumor. Trying to think what this could look like....

Blazers end up with;

Ayton Reath
Collins Walker
Grant Murray
Sharpe Thybulle
Scoot Ant

Heat get Olynyk for their depth, keep Martin, and save taxes
Suns get two players for their depth and save massive taxes
Utah gets Herro and Jaquez for their future

Blazers get their "win now" retool but also 2 great picks and a swap all unprotected

I really don't see Utah giving Collins up for Herro.

That came from someone I spoke to and mentioned it because it wasn't anything like anything else I had heard. Still haven't heard anything else about Utah being involved. If they end up being part of it, this source is a genius and will get major props.
