New owner... Tom Dundon?

If they are the largest source of funds buying the team, why is Tom who we are always hearing about? Why is he considered the new owner?

Maybe he's the one who wants to run things, and they just want the own things.

The situation in the article about AshLe’ Penn frustrates me. Nobody forced her to take that loan. It's on her to do her due diligence and then make the payments and be a responsible adult. She gets no "poor me" sympathy from me.

yeah, I didn't gin up any sympathy for her, but IMO, her story was a distraction from the main topic

predatory pay-day loans with an interest rate of 28% sure seem to cross the line to usury. That's around the interest rate of predatory credit cards that have been widely condemned

Jody Allen has skeletons in her closet; Paul did too; Dundon...RAJ...the Cherngs. The ecology of billionaires is kind of ugly and just because Dundon is the shiny new owner, we probably shouldn't assume he comes from a different eco-system. The reality is the Robber-Baron era never really ended

But even among billionaires there are degrees of assholery. Compare Paul Allen to Elon.

Holy $hit. Haven't read the article. But she does from me. Happens to be my old coworker lol.

Maybe we can settle on the Panda Family just owning the team as the main $ person.

Who became a Billionaire being a nice guy?

Hopefully he’s ruthless about winning.

I'd say Mike Illitch did. Who is he? He (along with his wife) was the founder of Little Caesars pizza, and later owner of the Red Wings and Tigers, and secretly paid for Rosa Parks housing (for the rest of her life) after she was robbed and beaten in her apartment in 1994. She passed in 2005.

People didn't find out he did this until after his passing in 2017.

But can you really be a nice guy if you sell wet cardboard and call it pizza?

so...there's an article at OLive where Dundon is saying that his group can buy the Blazers without any Cherng involvement or capital. That may point to the RAJ lawsuit being a real problem rather than a nuisance

Did you mean that they group CAN'T buy the team without the Cherng involvement?

no...what I meant was that Dundon coming out and saying his group could still buy the Blazers without the Cherngs seems to indicate they may have to do so. Meaning the RAJ lawsuit is potentially a major obstacle to the sale if the Cherngs are involved.

Translation: Cherngs bought RAJ off to drop the suit. I wonder how expensive it was for them...

I guess an alternative option is RAJ figured out that they had no case...

Either way, good news that there's more clarity on the path forward.

I'm pretty sure the RAJ had a case; not sure how strong it was. I'd bet the settlement was somewhere in the 7 figure range; low end

I'm not going to do the legwork but I read in one of the early reporting pieces about this that the court RAJ filed this in somehow tipped their hand that they were looking for a quick settlement and not any sort of prolonged litigation. So this all makes sense.

Really excited for our future and getting free orange chicken in the stead of McNuggets.
