The thing I like about Richman is that he flat out says that. He says he doesn't have any sources. He tells you he's not really a Blazer fan, aside from being a sports fan and they are the largest local team. He's just there to talk about the Blazers in an unbiased way.

He does have access to the "Locked On" crew of other NBA and sports cities. So those crossovers can be pretty good.

So he is a perspective of somebody who isn't a local fan but who has friends who are. And has access to people in other cities who aren't necessarily local fans (though they can be) and have regular interactions with people who are.

I'm not sure if you've ever listened to him before but it's a pretty good listen.

His agenda really just seems to be discussing the Blazers and that's it.

But you're right, though. Some of the guys in here do as good of a job breaking things down as he does. But they do it in text and he does it on video / audio.

So I can enjoy the video / audio when I'm driving or doing chores.

Stop, no they didn’t. TV ratings way up in spite of team not having much success. Fans didn’t go anywhere FAMS!

Come on now that’s not fair.

Highkin is legit. He was the one who asked the commissioner about the future of the team. He’s credentialed. Maybe he doesn’t break news but it’s not fair to say he knows the same as us.

For the most part local media doesn’t break news anymore. They get beat by Shams. Although Oram did drop the Dame signing.

This name came up once. He didn’t seem to take it too seriously. Fertitta was the name he always mentioned. Vegas billionaires. My question is this. Did it ever even go to auction?

Salt Lake City compared to Portland? Seriously? Portland is way bigger, plus like u said we’ve got more Fortune 500 companies, and come on Lake Placid hosted the Olympics lol
 
Sounds very good.

Finally near the end of the Bert Kolde reign. I can't imagine a hands on owner like Dundon would want Kolde lurking around.

I've always wondered what would happen if there was an NBA owner/GM that just said FU to all the agents. Maybe we now see that.

Lake Placid is New York. You do know that right? I've worked in Salt Lake a few times. believe me it's way more appealing than Portland as a sports market.
 
It's interesting that people are so paranoid that they think the guy who bought a small market team, kept it there, helped fix up the area where the team plays, signed a 20 year deal to keep them there, won't apparently do the same thing here...in a bigger market, with a much longer history already in a stronger situation than the Hurricanes were when he purchased them.

So we're supposed to believe that the group after buying a team would then go and move the team to a marginally better market (and let's be honest, Seattle is marginally better, and Vegas would mean 1 of 4 teams now), pay relocation fees and any exiting fees to the city? Seems a bit steep for a group that collectively isn't worth a *ton* of money.

For example: The Chargers moved to LA from San Diego, because of the glitz of LA...and now are ranked 21st in team value. They were 22nd in San Diego.

Wasn’t this mostly about access? I know a good number of people that complained about not being able to watch with their provider for years and were excited to finally get to have that access last season.

They don't get beat by Shams - Shams gets fed the information by the teams/agents/league. It's not like he's sleuthing around finding any of this - it's handed to him, much like it was to Woj.

How they get the news is irrelevant. He breaks the news before them and in journalism that is all that matters. So I think our local guys just stopped trying.

I don't get the hate on Highkin. His voice can be a little annoying to listen to but he is easily the best we currently have.

What do you mean? What he said seems reasonable and just gives us an idea at timelines relating to sales of teams. Seems like good information to share to me.

This isn't some douchnozzle running around beating on his chest about how important he is. Not sure the problem with it.

Probably not anytime soon, as they won't do anything about it (publicly) until after it's approved by the NBA. They just now, iirc, approved the Celtics sale, and that was in March.

They still have to approve the Lakers sale. One would assume they'd do both at the same time (Portland and Lakers I mean), but they might want to do them individually as to do a deep dive into both. Probably won't be approved for months.
