Is Scoot going to be a starter on a contending Blazers team?

He could be, he could not be. Who knows yet.

Define "contending".

Well, he is already a significant part of this year's contending team...

We are not front-runners but contending for the first pick in this year's draft.

Of course, I'd like to see us contending on the other end of the spectrum but does lend credence to the statement of "Define contending".

Gramps coming in HOT!

I chose no with an asterisk. This team will not contend until Jody sells it.

I think Scoot is good enough to be a foundational piece for a contending team. Whether that actually happens or not, I dunno. Dame was good enough, too, and it didn't really happen for him.

Looking at our roster, top to bottom, Scoot is the only thing that we clearly have going for us. I love Sharpe, but he's missed (for most intents and purposes) two of the last three years and I'm more concerned about him after his "Kentucky" experience than I normally would be with a second-year dude getting hurt. Our other good players (Ant, Ayton, Grant) are all paid so well that they're value-neutral, IMO.

Fire the coach, get rid of the owner, give up on the 20-year-old rookie, trade away the vets...Sports fans are the best.
Owner needs to go. But that won't happen for a while. Coach has proven he's nothing special at best.

I like Scoot. The vets don't really matter on this team.

oops, wrong thread.

That’s why I wrote “before Wes Matthews ruptured his Achilles”. We’ll never know what could have been, but we were near the top BEFORE he went down.
I don't think we had any real chance with Wes. But I'd gladly go back to that over what we have now.

And I think we could have certainly gotten back to that level again for a season or two had we kept Dame.

yeah, I agree with that

I mean, Portland hasn't had a contender since the 4thQ collapse against the Lakers in the WCF 24 years ago; a quarter of a century without a contender

I have no confidence at all that Jody-->Vulcans-->Kolde-->Cronin can build a contender in the next several years. I don't even believe contending is on their radar; and I don't think Jody will sell anytime soon. I'm voting no but it's not because of Scoot, it's because of ownership & management
The 2018-19 and 2020-21 teams were contenders in my opinion. Charles Barkley picked us to win the championship.

2014-15 team was a contender before Wes got hurt. The 2013-14 team had the best record in the league thirty games into the season. And I think 2017-18 was a contender before they weren’t. Had a 13 game win streak, 3 seed. In general, top 3 seeds are contenders.

And this guy wanted more Cowbell
