While I understand the reason, and COMPLETELY agree that there is an issue that needs to be fixed. I don't like the whole kneeling thing.

How will you react if one or more of the Blazers kneels or sits during the Anthem?
Uhmmm BRoy?

Finally got to Washington in the middle of the night
I couldn't wait
I headed straight for the Capitol Mall
My heart began to pound
Yahoo! It really exists
The American International Pictures logo
I looked up at that Capitol Building
Couldn't help but wonder why
I felt like saying "Hello, old friend"
Walked up the hill to touch it
Then I unzipped my pants
And pissed on it when nobody was looking
Like a great eternal Klansman
With his two flashing red eyes
Turn around he's always watching
The Washington monument pricks the sky
With flags like pubic hair ringed 'round the bottom
The symbols of our heritage
Lit up proudly in the night
Somehow fits to see the homeless people
Passed out on the lawn
So this is where it happens
The power games and bribes
All lobbying for a piece of ass
Of the stars and stripes of corruption
Makes me feel so ashamed
To be an American
When we're too stuck up to learn from our mistakes
Trying to start another Vietnam
Whilke fiddling while Rome burns at home
The Boss says, "You're laid off. Blame the Japanese"
"America's back, " alright
At the game it plays the worst
Strip mining the world like a slave plantation
No wonder others hate us
And the Hitlers we handpick
To bleed their people dry
For our evil empire
The drug we're fed
To make us like it
Is God and country with a band
People we know who should know better
Howl, "America riles. Let's go to war!"
Business scams are what's worth dying for
Are the Soviets our worst enemy?
We're destroying ourselves instead
Who cares about our civil rights
As long as I get paid?
The blind Me-Generation
Doesn't care if life's a lie
So easily used, so proud to enforce
The stars and stripes of corruption
Let's bring it all down!

Tell me who's the real patriots
The Archie Bunker slobs waving flags?
Or the people with the guts to work
For some real change
Rednecks and bombs don't make us strong
We loot the world, yet we can't even feed ourselves
Our real test of strength is caring
Not the toys of war we sell the world
Just carry on, thankful to be farmed like worms
Old glory for a blanket
As you suck on your thumbs
Real freedom scares you
'Cause it means responsibility
So you chicken out and threaten me
Saying, "Love it or leave it"
I'll get beat up if I criticize it
You say you'll fight to the death
To save your useless flag
If you want a banana republic that bad
Why don't you go move to one

But what can just one of us do?
Against all that money and power
Trying to crush us into roaches?
We don't destroy society in a day
Until we change ourselves first
From the inside out
We can start by not lying so much
And treating other people like dirt
It's easy not to base our lives
On how much we can scam
And you know
It feels good to lift that monkey off our backs
I'm thankful I live in a place
Where I can say the things I do
Without being taken out and shot
So I'm on guard against the goons
Trying to take my rights away
We've got to rise above the need for cops and laws
Let kids learn communication
Instead of schools pushing competition
How about more art and theater instead of sports?
People will always do drugs
Let's legalize them
Crime drops when the mob can't price them
Budget's in the red?
Let's tax religion
No one will do it for us
We'll just have to fix ourselves
Honesty ain't all that hard
Just put Rambo back inside your pants
Causing trouble for the system is much more fun
Thank you for the toilet paper
But your flag is meaningless to me
Look around, we're all people
Who needs countries anyway?
Our land, I love it too
I think I love it more than you
I care enough to fight
The stars and stripes of corruption
Let's bring it all down!
If we don't try
If we just lie
If we can't find
A way to do it better than this
Who will?

See what I'm saying. This all just creates more of a divide. Not everybody thinks you should be kneeling. Like I said, I don't care what guys do but yesterday really just seemed like some PR moves. Didn't have the same feeling as when Colin did it out of no where. It got weird. That's all I was trying to say, other than that I don't care what people do when the anthem comes on

Personally, while I would not penalize an employee for political protests on their own time, I would not permit any employee (if I owned a business) to engage in any political protest on company time, regardless of the manner or purpose. But I would make that determination clear to the employees in advance of attempting to mete out any punishment therefor.

I don't see it as right to fire people for protesting, unless there is a franchise/league decree in advance stating that on-field protests are considered insubordination and a violation of rules/policy. In this case, they're clearly not, so employment-related consequences would be unreasonable.

There's a difference. They are contract employees. The protests obviously don't violate their contracts. Also, until 2009 players NEVER even had to stand for the anthem.

And NFL owners (2 of which are Drumpf supporters) locked arms and JOINED the protests.

But here's the rub... How come no one in here (or anywhere else) is down on TOM BRADY joining the protests?? He didn't take a knee but he publicly denounced Drumpf's punk ass remarks and locked arms in solidarity with his teammates

I don't hear MFs in here talking about him... Why is that you think? :smiley-hmm:

SlyPokerDog is delusional and fired-up about this.

He needs to chill. He's making himself look bad.

SLYPOKERDOG EDIT: The no personal insult rule will be firmly enforced. Please, the OT section is bad enough. The discussion needs to be civil or I will just move the thread. This means everyone.

Thanks

I just wish our "leader" wouldn't put the players on blast the way he has over this. It's very sad that he condemns these people for protesting in their own way peacefully, but supports all the crazy rioters out there calling them "good people" I don't get into politics, but this is horrible.
Saw a tweet that I thought was great, it said to think these people kneeling is about the flag, would be like thinking what Rosa Parks did was about the transit system.

Did he come out this strongly against the White Nationalist Murderers in Charlottesville?

It's interesting how some are taking a stand against kneeling.

I am definitely a free speech advocate. But you're so delusional and fired-up about his, you're making up things that I never said. I never said he should be fired. I said his acts are narcissistic and that his protest doesn't even make sense with respect to what he's protesting.

You need to chill. You're making yourself look bad.

LOL. No. It's people like you and the blind hypocrisy that y'all spout in this forum and throughout the country.

Can't really answer, since I'm not really representative of the people you're talking about, but...if he didn't take a knee during the anthem, then it's not quite the same thing, is it?

You agree with the Hutt in the white house.

Yes it is. How often do you see owners standing arm and arm with their players during the anthem?

Never.

It's exactly what Tom Brady did. Just because he didn't kneel didn't mean he didn't protest.

SlyPokerDog is just yelling, screaming, stomping his paws and shouting like a 4-year-old. Gee, I wonder why nobody takes him seriously.

I'll applaud them. The country is great is you're a white male and pretty good for a white female. Once it starts becoming great for all walks of life, then we can talk.

When it comes to the safety of my black child, yes, I get pretty fired up about that. I'm sure you would about yours...

I guess I see it differently. It's like the guy a couple weeks back who wouldn't kneel with his teammate, but stood next to him with his hand on his shoulder. Basically saying, "I'm with you in terms of speaking up for change in the way the police treat POC, but I'm still going to stand for the anthem because I think that's important too." I think it's very possible to support the reason for a protest without necessarily supporting the manner of protest. That's how I interpret Brady standing arm-in-arm with his teammates; saying "I support the protest, but also respect the flag."

It's no surprise to me that people would be OK with that. In fact, it's hard for me to see how someone could find fault with that. It's about as centrist a position as one can take.

I'm truly not worried about being taken seriously by you. You're part of the problem.

Here is guy that dodge the draft 5 times in the Vietnam era and to me that more disrespectful then what the players are doing. I am retire military and what the players doing is not disrespectful at all. What there doing has nothing to due with the military or the flag. But then we got this jack ass think he can disrespect anyone he wants to when he wants to and he thinks it alright.
Double-like.

Fair enough. Imagine if he did take a knee... That would be amazing.

I am curious, you don't see a connection in the players and owners response yesterday to your presidents' word at the campaign rally Friday or answers to the press on Saturday doubling down on what he believed the owners response should be? it seems a straight line correlation to me. cause and effect. I do understand the part about the country's divisions, I too am troubled deeply, but I feel that trump's statements are worthy of a nonviolent response. whether kneeling or staying off the field, it is preferable to another ferguson riot IMHO and far more affective in unifing a response. I am personally turned off by the violence and tune out of the causes even when the position is one I might find empathetic.

HAHA... your "black child"? The skin color matters?
Well...yeah, I think it kind of does. The whole point is the idea that black people are all too often perceived and treated differently by police than white people...because of the color of their skin.

So...yeah, it matters.

NFL players have only been on the field for the national anthem for about 10 years. It hasn't had a long history.

Trump has repeatedly made announcements of charitable donations that were never donated.

I don't care they did what they did yesterday, I am saying it wasn't genuine, meaning the place colin came from doing it wasn't the same as the players yesterday. It become a circle jerk of team statements and things players were saying. That's all I am saying. Not that I agree or disagree with it, I just question where it came from
