No Deals at the Deadline Reaction Thread (Merged)

John Strong on The Game just reported that KP just said at practice that "these are his guys and he's sticking with them". Sounds to me like we didnt make a deal.

That might be his biggest obstacle to making a big trade. He values his guys a lot because he's the one that drafted them and poured so many resources into it.

Jarrett wasn't his guy, Nash drafted him.
Zach wasn't his guy, forget who drafted him.
Telfair wasn't his guy, Nash drafted him.

Oh well.

Re: (Merged) Noon Pacific/Post Deadline Thread

Well no but there could be legitimate concerns about his multiple concussions. But that would not explain the other trades not being accepted.

Doesn't Batum have a heart condition?

Yeah I don't care who it was, I would take Jefferson and Butler.

Perhaps Paul Allen told KP not to do any trades for now because of Miles back on our books. Maybe KP has a better idea and a trade scheme in the summer.

I hope he didn't try to sell it like "I wouldn't trade you guys for ANYTHING!" because that would just be cheesy and nobody would buy that.

Well he did have them huddle together, and told them none of them would be traded and they broke the huddle, saying "TOGETHER!"

Dude completely different scenarios. Kidd was like 35 and on the downside of his career. Is Gerald Wallace on the downside of his career? Hell no, he is still in our age window.

So Gerald Wallace, who has played a whopping total of 52 minutes of playoff minutes in his career, is going to put this team over the top? Bold statement considering you have no idea exactly what Charlotte was demanding, or even if they were really shopping Wallace seriously.

Yippee, we'll acquire 4 moer draft picks in the upcoming draft, he'll "work his magic" on draft day, and we'll have 4 mroe untouchable 12 year olds on our fucking team. Meanwhile, the only PG we have who could fight through a screen will be getting no playing time, and we have no consistent option at SF, because we have one who in 5 years could possibly potentially maybe, perhaps be the next Teyshaun fucking Prince.

Yippee? Pretty Ironic your calling anyone a 12 year old.

Bottom Line is Darius Miles screwed our cap space that we need for our core guys. By the time our big three solidly develop we can look to add that final piece. It just is not right now.

BTW. Did you see Batum make two sick blocks in a row last night? One on Rudy Gay. I'd say he's worth waiting for.

there is nothing better than raefs expiring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm disappointed we didn't land Wallace or Butler (everyone else I could do without) but am I disappointed in KP or our front office? I have NO F'ING IDEA. Why? Cause I have absolutely NO IDEA what offers were made, what those two teams wanted for those players. Hell, for all we know, they may have been asking for BRANDON ROY or LAMARCUS ALDRIDGE. What the hell do we know? We sit here and read 2nd, 3rd, 4th hand reports and some rumors that are flat out made up and think "Oh wow! We can have this player for an expiring contract and spare change?!?"

What is the worst deal you can think of that you would still do? What if our offers were worse than that? What if all this was talk to try to drive up the price from other teams but really the financial situation was blown WAY OUT OF PROPORTION? What if teams weren't actually willing to give up their stars for just savings? What if NJ was asking for Outlaw, RLEC, Bayless, Rudy and a pick for Carter? Would you do that? What if they wanted Lamarcus Aldridge and RLEC? I wouldn't do either of those, especially if I actually had to pay the guy. That's a huge amount of money for a breaking down, no D playing star.

So, while I know it won't, I hope this will change some of your minds to realize WE KNOW NOTHING.

This comment is freakin ridiculous. Anyone here who wanted a trade didn't just want a trade for the sake of a trade. We wanted a trade because we were holding a gun with a single silver bullet in it, the only stipulation was that we had to fire it by today at noon. Now we lose a can't-miss opportunity for a hope and a prayer that some miracle from heaven will force some team to hand us over their best player for nothing somewhere down the road.

Ridiculous? It is no more ridiculous than the meltdown a lot of people here are having because they think they can run a basketball franchise better than a GM who has done wonders for us in recent years. He didn't get the deal he wanted so he didn't pull the trigger.

Stop all the whining and crying. This team still makes the playoffs - and trade or no trade, we would've won ONE playoffs series at best this year. Did you really think we were going to win the title this year with Wallace, Jefferson or even Andre Fucking Miller? Or next year?

Re: (Merged) Noon Pacific/Post Deadline Thread

Dudes like Batum and Outlaw are no Harris.

Well, Harris was older. But check out Harris's stats as a rookie if you want to compare him with Batum (or Bayless, whom I bet a lot of teams were asking for). And I wouldn't have squealed too much at Outlaw going.

Batum's heart condition was cleared I believe. The rumors started about the time San Antonio worked him out but San Antonio wouldn't pass out his medical records to other teams and I believe Batum stopped work outs after that. San Antonio really wanted Batum and I believe Nicolas had anticipated going there as when he was drafted I recall him saying he had expected and wanted to go to San Antonio.

and yet that same PG gets blasted by our coach saying he gets lost on defense and isn't ready to play.

We have to step back, check ourselves, and realize this is a long process. We all want to push ahead as quickly as possible, but also have to realize we are waaaay ahead of schedule still. No trade doesn’t give us the immediate boner we all want, but it isn’t our money that we all want to spend.

I'm bummed like I am sure a good few are but I agree with this.

Didn't he turn Ratliff and Telfair into Roy and Raef?

moving picks. Raef was nothing...the flexibility we had with his contract....absolutely nothing. its fucking bullshit, same as trading for Steve Francis....we ain't gonna do shit with the imaginary cap space. its worth NOTHING.

oh your right. im sorry his contract was not enough to get a player to help roy shoulder the load. we probably couldnt even get a starter for raef

dude come on, Mike Ruffin is the player we needed! This trade deadline was a success! Bake it!

:biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh:

From Hollinger chat on ESPN:

Kyle (pdx, Or): Why didn't the blazers do anything?

SportsNation John Hollinger: (3:19 PM ET ) Because Paul Allen likes saving money too. I had somebody out there tell me over a month ago that they were being tighter than outsiders thought and that they might very well hang on to the Raef deal. I think Pritchard was looking for a homerun and if he couldn't get somebody like Sessions or Carter for free then he would just take his expiring contract and go home.

Don't spoil the bridge jumpers with facts and common sense. We're supposed to be able to dump our crap and get All-Stars in return! It's a recession you know!

Lakers did it last year. Kwame for Pau. We had the same thing, but it was more attractive since insurance would have covered the salary.

Didn't he turn Ratliff and Telfair into Roy and Raef?

Nash was still the GM at the time. I remember when I sent an email to him regarding drafting Aldridge, it was Nash who responded back. The theory was that it was KP who was doing a lot of the work on buying picks and the like. Pritchards first draft pick was actually Oden.
