Oh thats right... Bayless had 1 decent game the entire month of February. i forgot. I was thinking about how he couldnt score vs Utah when we were killing them which would have won the game. Im thinking about the time where we were up 30 vs teh twolves and they had to bring Miller in because bayless was so awful. I was thinking about how he was 2-25 shooting jumpers during this past month.

My memory is cloudy I guess. Lets just remember how he scored 31 vs SA. Sergio had "nice" games very few months too.

You kill everyone. And I fail to see how Rudy is coming around considering Minnesota and Toronto were his first good games in forever. I think you should stop acting like the world is ending, your posts bring nothing new to the table. I could get on board with the packaging of a couple of guys (Bayless + Rudy, Webster + Bayless, etc.) if it meant adding 'Point Guard of the Future' (patent pending), but of course you talk about getting a small forward who can create their own shot a night after Nic Batum scores 31.

In any case, the next twenty games (plus playoffs?) is Bayless' opportunity to show what he can do on the court; so far it's looking like he's going to be a tough fit as the long term starter around here due to his jump shot not translating from U of A to the pros, and I'm not sure he's got enough playmaking in him to be relied upon to even run a second unit when Roy and/or Miller are out of the game. My guess is that eventually he'll make a nice change of pace attacking guard for some team without a bench guy who can consistently get to the free throw line

It's not a given that Jerryd's jumper improves a similar amount, but if he can bring it up he will be a very tough combo guard for anyone to handle. If he can't improve this weakness it will continue to limit his effectiveness and minutes no matter where he's playing.

Jerryd came into the league 2 years younger then GP. It's expected that some posters want to bail on him early as he hasn't set the world on fire... hell, it seems we have a tar and feathers mob gather for sacking a different youngin following every other game. JB will be fine. We have seen the dominant games, we have seen that he improved significantly from year 1 to year 2 and he has done it, so far, his entire NBA career has only about 30 more minutes played than Jarret Jack played his rookie year, and unlike Jack who had 3 years college experience - JB had one. Hack, JB, right now, is younger than Jack was when he was a rookie. Add the fact that inconsistent JB has a higher PER this year than Jack had any year in the league, and as usual the merchant of doom and gloom spews nonsense that has no research behind it.

This is the same poster that spent early parts of the year telling us how much better Webster is than Batum... if this is your source of basketball analysis... well, you get what you deserve.

Gary Payton had the added advantage of being a better playmaker and an elite defender.

I don't even dislike Bayless, I just don't think that it's super likely that his particular set of skills are going to mesh all that well longterm. He's got a first or second option mentality, with a 4th option role, and his distribution and set up skills aren't great enough to compensate for when his jumper goes cold or when opponents shut down the paint.

Maybe he makes some big leaps in the next year or two (which would be great) but currently he's just not a good enough threat from outside, nor a good enough distributor to be much more than a change of pace scoring guard, when the Blazers are in the bonus.

When Jerryd Bayless stepped on a fan and rolled his ankle in New Jersey this week, it created more than a tinge of concern throughout the Trail Blazers ranks.

With Steve Blake traded to the Clippers, the Blazers point guard prospects are suddenly thin and inexperienced. That’s why the team is not soley looking for a big man to occupy the 15th roster spot. According to coach Nate McMillan, they are also looking seriously at point guards.

“I mean, we have to look at what is out there and available and what we need. I think D.C. (Dante Cunningham) is playing good basketball. I like him. So maybe a point. A true point. It just depends. Because if you lose Bayless or (Andre) Miller, what do you do then? I mean, if you lose Bayless to an ankle sprain, you have to look at that. Then you are looking at Patty (Mills). Brandon (Roy). Or Rudy (Fernandez). So we have to look at that.’’

In talking to agents, it appears the Blazers are mostly targeting big men. The agents for Kenny Thomas, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Brian Cook and Jake Voskuhl all said the Blazers have called.

The only point guard mentioned is Dan Dickau, the Vancouver, Wash. native who has had two stints with the Blazers - 20 games in 2003-2004 and 50 games in 2006-2007. That's not to say there aren't more, that's only what I could uncover from talking to agents.

I have also heard NBA Development League point guard Will Conroy, whom a Blazers source this week confirm was “on the board,” but not likely to be signed. Other point guards believed to be on the Blazers board are Antonio Daniels and Jacque Vaughn.

General manager Kevin Pritchard said multiple times this week that the team is waiting for things to shake out with buyouts and waivers before the Blazers formulate their plan of attack.

Pritchard on Saturday said the Blazers probably won't make a decision until a couple of days.

“In this situation, we just want to look at the talent out there,’’ McMillan said Friday night. “In talking to Kevin about that position, we just what to see what’s out there. Whether that’s a guard or a big, we have to ask: Can he help us?’’

Dude you are an emotional seesaw. calm down. First Nic is the SF of the Future and no way do we need to upgrade there. Long term PG, and perhaps a PF/C long term in case Oden keeps getting injured, are this team's main issues. Blake needed to go and this is Bayless's chance to start proving himself or not, Blake is not the answer. If we feel we need a better long term solution then this summer that can be addressed. Use a little common sense.

I haven't seen Nic try to create his shot that much. A lot of his points come off of an assist. I think he has the ability to try and create his own shot, but most of the time he is scoring within the flow of the offense. Bayless has the ability to create his own shot, he just hasn't been doing that good of a job of it over the last 20 games. I think the team misses having Outlaw, but Bayless or Batum have the potential to fill the void left by Outlaw leaving.

Jerryd is like GP (in the day) in that both are good sized, strong PGs who struggled in their effectiveness their 1st couple years mostly because of their shaky outside shot. It would certainly benefit JB a lot if his jumper improved as much as Gary's did.

GP was a lock down defender from day one. If Bayless could find that, the comparison would be valid. He will develop a jumper over time.
