Faried will be a star in most systems and especially Karl's. Oh well, I can console myself that McMillan would have slowed him down to nothing, so it doesn't matter. Might as well ruin Nolan Smith instead of Faried.

In all these tapes, he slows down his defender and then sneaks in. Controlling the tempo is good when you can con the other side to play your speed, bad when you can't and you have to pass too much before shooting outside (offense) or have to foul them (defense).

I won't know which he is till I see him in the NBA.

On both offense and defense, he seems passive unless the situation allows him to slow things down. A Roy/McMillan type of player. I see why the Blazers valued him more highly than mock drafts did.

His head never got over the rim in any of those dunks. Plus, he was the tallest player on the floor. What was that, a noon pick-up game? I've seen people at Bally's or the Hoop dunk like that. Hell, Mustapha Hoff is almost 40 now, and he can still dunk like a pro when I've played with him.

Recap from day 2:

Austin Rivers is amazing. How bad was this year's draft? Kyrie Irving is not a #1 overall pick in a draft with any of the other drafts the past 10 years, including next year's draft.

I like the explosiveness of Nolan Smith as well. The NC pro-am league is no joke.

Poor Julius Hodge, the only reason most people know of him is because CP3 punched his crotch in college. I recall Canzano mentioning that in 05 prior to the draft as something to be wary of, as a possible indicator CP's future character issues.

Never take these videos seriously. I made one of these for Przybilla and Ime Udoka that made them look like Shaq and Vince Carter!

Well, there's that, and there is also that he got shot in his hip and legs by 4 bullets in a drive-by shooting his rookie season in Denver and never fully recovered. He was first-round a draft pick, and that pretty much ruined his career. The Blazer-related portion is that he was traded to Milwaukee along with Earl Boykins for Steve Blake.

He got shot in his hip and legs by 4 bullets, he hobbled around trying to play, then Chris Paul punched him in the groin?

I agree with Canzano for once! Keep that bastard Chris Paul out of our league!

You keep saying that - let's see these alleged videos, and WE'LL decide! Or are they, like so much else, just a figment of your imagination?

I don't put too much stock in highlight reels but Nolan does have a lot better handle than I thought.

Another complimentary review of Nolan:

This game showed me a few things. First Nolan Smith is as good as I thought he was. The man can shoot and get his shot on anyone. He can get it off over the big man and he can definitely do his thing against anyone close to his size. He may need to get a little stronger for the next level but watching him tonight let me see that he is the real deal.

I wasn't on boards then, but my thought was that the Blazers would have to go with one of the Williamses instead of CP3 for that very reason.

By "have to" do you mean because of the local media witch hunts and PR, or because you thought CP had character issues?

Bummer. Well at least Nolan can dunk with nobody on him!?!

After watching this video, I can say with a reasonable amount of certainty that if the NBA doesn't work out for Nolan Smith, he has an excellent chance of catching on with the And1 Mixtape team. OOOHHHHHH BAAAAABY!

I just can't get excited about Nolan Smith. I mean, Sebastian Telfair would probably have put up 25/10 with a few no-look highlight reel dimes in a league like this. Until I see this guy do something in a real game, I'm a non-believer. The Raymond Felton (aka "Chunkey Monkey") trade will go down as one of the worst in team history. Next year, and for years to come, when Oden is injurred or playing for another team, and Lamarcus is having to play 45 minutes a game, and Faried is this generation's Dennis Rodman . . . it's going to hurt like hell.

While that's certainly a legitimate stance, I'll point out that Smith went 20/5/5 and was ACC player of the year. Unless they don't play "real games" in the ACC. Conversely, comparing him to an undersized HS player like Telfair isn't a legitimate stance, IMO, and is a big stretch.

Smith plays a much more complete team game than Bassy. That, IMO, is what will make him a better pro. I can't see him ever being flashy, but steady, which isn't a bad thing

Rashard McCants and Joseph Forte also lit up the ACC.

More first than second, but I can't say I would've felt great about the pick. I don't see how anyone, especially an all-time great playing in a big game, could punch someone in the nuts. We're not talking hard foul, or "cagey veteran move" like Stockton used to pull...just a straight-up punch to the nuts.

Obviously he's outgrown it, but I didn't see anything in Deron-is-Deron that gave me the pause that CP3's "character issues" did.

I would take Rashard McCants in 2 seconds. I'd pick him up from the airport. Dude can play some ball, and he's a great shooter.

Shit, call him! He wasn't even in the NBA last year!

One of my friends apparently played pick up with Rashad back in the day during a basketball orientation at UNC, and swears that he's got amazing talent and has always been misused. IDK, do we need another SG?

Do we really need another? We have ONE right now that can be counted on to play consistent minutes.
