The draft is June 23...his guarantee date is June 26. He'll get traded during the draft where his salary counts as $19M and the team can cut him and instantly save $15M. If anything I think this lines up with CJ/pick/Bledsoe being dealt at the draft.

It's the ONLY logical reason he did this.

If not, it might be the stupidest GM move this side of the mid 2000s Nets.
 
Wow terrible, I have always disliked Eric Bledsoes play. Yet another small guard when we have a glut of them, unless there is another bigger and better trade coming immediately after this I am extremely disappointed.

That's now how it works. He has to be guaranteed in order to trade him atb19 million. Otherwise only his guaranteed amount counts.

and for those asking about a 1st round pick, keon johnson just got drafted, so i guess hes equivalent to a 1st round pick and blazers liked him

This doesn't open up any capspace. We only reduce the tax bill next year after the Ant extension.

I'm pretty sure once this season is over (not the league year, the season), we have to guarantee next year's salary to trade him.

Cronin's "claim to fame" is that he is a salary cap expert. That's all this is about.

I may give up my season tickets because I really don't see how we are going to be remotely competitive in the next few years.

Not true. His salary remains at this years salary until the new league year starts so he would be at the $19M figure for this season.

this wasnt move to get under the tax, its part of the bigger picture (they needed to lose a couple of millions to get under the tax, if not less)

powell was a bad fit and thank god hes gone, we all knew roco will be gone too, so no surprise there

it looks to me like theyre creating cap space to re-sign nurk & ant and they will roll with ant & little as starters going forward and now they will hunt for power forward, so we basically have four starters settled (cj mccollum will be gone too)

If we want to trade him at the draft, he will only count for the guaranteed amount of next year's salary.
 
The ownership and management of this franchise......ho...ly...shit....PA probably doing flip-flops in his grave.
 
I will give this trade until Thursday afternoon to see if it can possibly make any sense at that point but there is going to have to be some other big time wheeling and dealing to make this look even a little bit sensible.
