i want to make it tougher to get guns period. people don't need them. societies around the world work perfectly well without them. if these barriers deter people from buying them in the long run, then the measure serves its intended consequences for me.
Societies around the world work perfectly well with guns as well.

This law is going to be challenged all the way to the supreme court and ruled as unconstitutional. It's going to be a huge waste of money and time suck for our public employees who are already stretched thin.

There is literally nothing good or productive about this law.

For the record, I'm not anti-gun.

Like I said, we're now going to look at both sides of the gun ownership coin. More restrictions vs fewer restrictions. That's not a bad thing.
We've had more restrictions in Oregon for 5+ years... It hasn't gone well...

So has California and Washington. Very similar results.

Democrats did in Michigan and Colorado what Republicans did in Florida, with less publicity.

Michigan governor had been personally attacked by Trump, armed men marched in front of her house, even a kidnap plot. Not only did she win re-election, so did attorney general and secretary of state, all women. A nonpartisan redistricting committee set new districts that were representative, and Democrats won majority in both Chambers. Abortion rights padded with big margin.
In Colorado also won state offices and both houses. Oklahoma elected a female Democratic attorney general.
Listen to women.

What's taking Arizona (specifically, Maricopa County) so long to count votes?!? Shoot, Florida had over 7 million votes counted soon after the polls closed on election day!

I'm not gonna conspiracy theory this thing, but it does seem a bit odd that Hobbs is still the elections Chief.

If minorities are afraid to vote that plays a big role.
That has nothing to do with gerrymandering, it's just a big word that people like to throw around. What were the numbers, specifically of black voters (since that's what has been argued about here) casting a ballot in 2022 vs. 2020 or 2018?

That's what I'd like to know, as well.

The majority of the black population did not vote for him. Many of them were scared off because of DeSantis's tactics, with his "special police force", his redistricting, and his biased moves to allow Republican areas hit by the hurricane special voting measures, while disallowing it in liberal areas. He didn't let the feds in for a reason. He knew what they would see.

I'm not quite certain what DeSantis' "biased moves" regarding the hurricane special measures were. From this article, it appears that the counties themselves requested the measures.

From NPR:

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed an order Thursday extending early voting and mail ballot access for certain voters who were affected by Hurricane Ian ahead of elections this fall.

According to the governor's office, the order was done at the request of election officials in Charlotte, Lee and Sarasota counties, and the changes apply to residents of those counties, which were among the hardest hit by the deadly storm late last month.

State officials say supervisors of elections in those three counties have been reporting severe damage to polling locations, utility and telecommunications service disruptions, poll worker shortages and many displaced voters just weeks before Election Day. So far, no local officials in Florida have reported any damage to voting equipment.

In a statement, Florida Secretary of State Cord Byrd said his office has been in touch with local officials to "to ensure that the 2022 General Election is administered as efficiently and securely as possible" in counties that received the most damage from Hurricane Ian.

"Florida will continue to lead the way in elections administration in 2022," Byrd said. "And I am grateful for and confident that our local elections officials will have all of the resources and support they need to run another successful election."

But it had a lot to do with the races in Florida

How ... show me how it affected a race that has nothing to do with the districts.

They think DeSantis is the present-day Hitler....who has his big authoritarian thumb on anything and everything Florida.

I get that ... I think DeSantis is a douche bag and wouldn't have voted for him but the people of the state did. I hear the same thing in Texas about how gerrymandering caused Abbott to win. If I'm missing something here, please inform me and the rest of us on how redistricting affects a statewide popular vote.

Gavin Newsom was declared winner two minutes after polls closed. Congressional races with fewer votes have yet to be called. The closer an election, the longer it takes because state really does have to count every ballot. Why we don't have final Arizona results. No conspiracy theories and not due to superiority of god emperor DeSantis.

It doesn't.

Speaking of minorities being afraid to vote. That impacts every race.

Targeting and intimidating minorities is every bit as bad as gerrymandering...

Who said gerrymandering gave Abbott or DeSantis the win?

Im not sure minorities are afraid to vote as a significant percentage, I think there are as many PEOPLE that are just not interested in voting or to lazy.

Not only did Chris Craig take this line of thought but I've seen it from a number of other people on social media. Every time I do, I assume they are people who know very little about how elections typically work.

Warnock is increasing his share. Possible it could edge up over 50% and spare me a month of fundraising texts.

That would be so nice.

Or maybe they don't have the resources to stand in line for hours on a workday. Lines caused by the vote obstruction strategy their local republicans tend to push for.

I'd much rather be sure there was nothing for them to be afraid of than "not sure" they are afraid.

We know that there is absolutely a reason for minorities to be concerned about standing in long lines for extended periods of time in republican heavy areas. Until we have removed that from the equation we aren't doing good enough. And anybody who obstructs that removal is a HUGE part of the problem in this country.
