"Lonzo is not forced to wear any brand and can play in any shoe he wants as long as it's OK with the NBA," LaVar Ball told ESPN by text early Thursday morning. "This is what being independent is all about."

I could see them being able to land other NBA players with this mentality if they are able to afford to sign them to reasonable contracts. Imagine getting an endorsement deal and being able to wear whatever shoes you want, adidas, Nike, UA, whatever. Maybe I'm understimating the impact of players wearing signature shoes on court during a game, but the initial release and branding of signature shoes has got to be the biggest selling point.

I'd like to see every single thread having anything to do with this guy, his family, and their business interests combined in one single thread labeled:

OT: Lavar Ball is a dirty stinking piss and purple Laker

K?

Since he is a Laker, and therefore inherently disgusting, I believe he should be referred to as Larva Ball.

You post this in it and it bumps it back to the top.
My #1 complaint about this forum is that we have so many different threads all on the same topic.

that's your #1 complaint?? I'm not even sure it'd make my top 10.

I don't buy it personally. The shoes sucked so Lonzo wanted to wear shoes that are comfortable. Lavar is justifying the decision so as to not hurt the brand.

Certainly Possible

Looks like BlazerWookee (signature picture) hasnt yet heard that Photobucket wants your $$ in order to host images now.
I was hoping it was temporary, lol.

Is there a free site that's worth using?

Yep, I can just hear the ads now...

Hi, I'm Lonzo Ball. I make millions playing basketball for a living. I even have my own signature shoe, the Zo 2.0. You'll never see me actually wearing them while I play basketball, but that shouldn't stop you from spending 500 of your hard earned dollars on a pair.

My #1 complaint, besides new people joining and posting, is you bitching! Especially after you found out I used to tap your wife out right when I got released for good behavior! #BAM

I thought the whole idea of endorsing shoes meant you wore them while playing?
It is. There has been some real issues with players and their shoes lately. Nike has been getting very upset with 'Bron and KD for NOT wearing their latest releases. LeBron had issues with how his 12's felt 2 years ago and would constantly wear older versions. NIKE was freaking out over it, but what can they do? In his first two games Ball had a couple tumbles and crashes where he was just running and planting. I honestly believe those shit shoes were the reason. This will get interesting if he doesn't even wear his own kicks after all the hype.

To be fair, when sneakerheads buy $500 shoes they sure as hell aren't buying them to wear on the court.

Who actually buys $500 sneakers? What is the approximate size of the market? Are these some kind of collectors, or just poseurs with more cash than brains?

Not being a sneakerhead, or knowing any personally, I've wondered this myself. But based on the cross-over and tangential marketing I run across, the market is huge. I don't think that "collector" and "poseurs with more cash than brains" are mutually exclusive. Having collected various things over the years, and being the most financially responsible person I know, I don't think they go hand in hand either.

I'm not a sneakerhead in the least bit, but I thought they buy outlandishly expensive shoes for the style. Not to play basketball in, but to wear as fashion. That may be an outdated thing, though--the last time I was ever around such people was in high school.

I'd like to see a rock star do that.

ESP representative: "Hey. Mr. Hatfield. I noticed you weren't using the Iron Cross Guitar onstage?"

Hatfield: "Fuck that POS. I've been using them for target practice out at the ranch."

ESP: "Wow. That's just great. That totally justifying a kid spending 5k to buy one."
