Nurkic is a Blazer!!

I think there will be another trade. I don't think we're sitting on three picks. I think Olshey is planning on cashing them in with a team like Orlando or Philly.

Obviously they're going to package Noah and Crabbe + 3 picks for Butler and a 2nd round pick in 2045.

It's clear as mud. ;)

We only pay 1 MIL to cut him. why would we send out a pick to have him leave? Another team that needs cap space should be sending us something valuable to get him (even though he won't play for them).

That's what I was wondering.

Assuming Nurkic can actually play, I wouldn't expect a seamless transition; he seems like an I'll fit for Stotts' scheme. Now that might be as much of an indictment of Stotts as Nurkic, but I somehow envision a lot more "Meyers Lemon" and Nurkic getting 12-15 minute stints marked with inconsistency, as the guards fail to get him touches and hang him out to dry on defense with the usual diet of dribble penetration. If he does have a substantial impact it will probably be next season at the earliest.

Yep, like you say it won't be a seamless transition. It rarely is. But I do think he eventually is better suited for the pick and roll opportunities with Dame and CJ than Plums was for the simple reason that he can roll and pop. Plums could only roll. And the highlights also showed a pretty good passer.

I disagree. Stotts' system has been limited by the talent he's been given. Of course it's overly dependent on guard play and 3-point shooting. The only two players we have that are worth a shit on offense are two smallish guards.

As much as I love Mason Plumlee's heart, effort, motor and basketball IQ, if it's not a dunk, it's not going in. Prior to coming here, Al-Farouq Aminu had never averaged more than 7.3 ppg. Mo Harkless had never averaged more than 8.2 ppg.

He's basically been working with two guards who are capable of scoring 20+ points every night and a shit ton of career single digit scorers. What was he supposed to do? As much as we cringe when Aminu jacks up a 3-pointer, Stotts has gotten more out of Aminu than any other coach has.

Rick Carlisle is on record as saying Terry Stotts was the architect of the DAL offense when they won the championship in 2001. The starting back court for that team averaged 7.9 ppg (Jason Kidd) and 5.3 ppg (DaShawn Stevenson). He is obviously capable of designing an offense that is not guard-centric - when he has the right players for it.

I'm actually looking forward to what he can do with Nurkic. As I said in my previous post, with Dame and C.J. spreading the floor and demanding double teams, it should really open things up for Nurkic inside. To say that Dame and C.J. won't find him down low, isn't really fair. They have been the starting back court for a little over a season and a half. During that entire time they didn't exactly have a low post presence to feed on the low block.

Sure, it will take time to integrate a new player with a totally new skill set, but I look forward to watching it evolve.

A sweet-sour trade.
I knew Plumlee couldn't be our long term starter at Center, but it was interesting to watch his un-orthodox style every night. If his defense was better he could be the exact center you need for modern basketball.
I'm not going to hurry to declare us as the winners on this deal.

Can't help but wonder if Denver knows something about his health that we don't...

It is good that Olshey is not satisfied with the current state of the team and that he is actively pursuing talented players as well as draft picks.
If we can get Okafor\Butler + get rid of Turner and Meyers then this season was well spent. Getting Mike Budenholzer instead of Stotts would be the icing on the mo'fucking cake!

Oh god I panicked and read the deal wrong. I thought we were giving up a first round pick AGAIN but we are actually receiving one which is great. No matter if nurkic pans out or not this is a pretty nice deal. Plumlee was nice but I doubt we could have afforded him with how high our payroll is

14 guesses who Nurk's father is....

Dear God.....:smiley-eek2:

Behold the 7'0" 280 lb. giant Nurkic.
"Nurkic, who was the 16th overall pick of the 2014 NBA Draft, adds size (7-0, 280-pounds), youth (22 years old) and defense to the Blazers' roster. He's played 45 games this season, including 29 starts, and is averaging 8.0 points, 5.8 rebounds and 0.8 blocks in 27.9 minutes per game." We needed a defensive presence in the paint.

What does Chicago want to accomplish for trading Butler? I assume if they want to trade him, then they must want to start over? What other reason is there to trade an all defensive NBA all star? So our draft picks plus Crabbe or Turner? Do they really want to move him?

I listened to a Zach Lowe podcast on the Bulls a week ago, they have a problem declaring Jimmy is "their guy" like Bird did with PG or like Neil did with Lillard.
From what i understand, it's a matter of price.

I just want to say that this trade makes me uneasy.

Can't we get someone to take Meyers off our hands? I don't even care who we get in return!

Nurkic is a traditional in the key center offensively. Hopefully he'll help add another dimension to our defense.

I don't like losing Plums, but I understand the trade was made to upgrade the center position defensively while keeping in mind the NBA cap for next season.

Also, it's nice we acquired the Grizzlies 2017 first round pick (giving us 3 now) via the Nuggets and we only had to give up one of our second round picks. Neil has some draft picks and some other players he could end up trading in this reload.

In the grand scheme of things, our team was struggling and needed a little jolt.

Horrible thought: does this mean that Meyers is now our starter?

For maybe one game as Nurkic might not be here in time to clear his physical by tomorrow night's game.

...tell us more! What is this all about?
Lord have mercy!

Jusuf Nurkic's dad is a policeman in Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina. One day a Bosnian sports agent Enes Trnovcevic was reading a newspaper where he read: "Bosnian policeman, Hariz Nurkic has beaten 14 people in a fight." He knew what to do instantly! Next day he went to Tuzla and met with Nurkic's father. The only thing he asked him was: "Do you have a son?" Jusuf Nurkic was at that time a 14 years old boy and never trained basketball. Enes Trnovcevic took him to Slovenia and gave him an opportunity he accepted and used.

Also, as of now, Portland owns the #11, #21 and #27 picks in the 2017 NBA Draft.

I hate to say this. But we could use some of "that" on this team.

Ugh... you know what this trade means? We're going back to having our big man sag off of ball screens 100% of the time, because Stotts doesn't want Nurkic leaving the paint, and Nurkic will get 6 fouls in 10 minutes of game time having to guard endless 2 on 1's.
