NYPost expose on Jody Allen's toxic behavior

It does seem questionable when a woman head coaching candidate is a finalist and gets multiple interviews and almost everyone says it was a token process for show. They hire a black man and it's "Olshey was never going to hire anyone else, what a sham."

But they hire the nice white guy with no real actual search and it's just accepted by some of those same people (not implying anyone here specifically).

Joe might have had dirt on Jody so instead of taking it to litigation he was handed the keys in kind of a wink wink, hush hush type maneuver.

The Blazers hired a female director of health and wellness and have had numerous female staff members as well as assistant coach Edniesha Curry who is not only a woman but also black...if you check real GM the Blazers have hired a lot of female staff members and now have a female owner...
There's a complete list here on Real GM ,..the idea the we're a boy's club franchise is simply not true.

Well, since this ownership groups sick and twisted behaviors don’t seem to bother anybody else around here, I guess I’ll take my ball and go home on this topic.

I wouldn’t trust Bert Kolde either. I’ve heard nothing but creep-o behaviors out of him, too. Just a coattail rider.

I’m ready for a new ownership group. Innovative thinkers.

So what you’re saying is that there was no excuse to not even open it up for people to interview when they have a track record of hiring women for lower level positions?

I forget what article it was from (probably the Quick one) but someone quoted a league executive as saying the reason you open up a search is to get some outside perspectives on if other candidates would have a similar plan to Cronin's or if they got some fresh ideas that they could then use to hold Cronin more accountable if his plan isn't proceeding well enough. It's pretty obvious Jody let's the basketball people do their job and doesn't meddle much (outside paying tax), so it's likely by just hiring someone in house without looking at other candidates that she has no clue how to evaluate Cronin's performance (or Olshey's either for that matter). Having a diverse group of candidates would've likely resulted in some interesting approaches that she could ask Cronin about, even if she was going to hire him all along.

I’m looking out for the fellas out there that had to be subjected to this kinky old ladies weird fetishes.

Had the roles been reversed there would be a huge uproar.

That's a valid point. Why should she get a free pass on behavior that is unacceptable for male bosses. (at least should be unacceptable)

I'm glad to hear that the thing nobody claimed, suggested, or implied is in fact not true.
..glad you're glad to hear it. I certainly don't look at Joe as a guy hired because he's a straight white dude that is keeping POC or women from the job he got...I wouldn't even assume Joe is straight....I don't know. My point is we interviewed a woman for the job...Becky Hammond and have female ownership and female assistant coach etc.....context matters. The Blazers have supported diversity in the sports world.

Wow this article claims that NBA teams when considering valuation have outperformed the S&P 500 by better than 10 to 1 (1057%). That kind of flies in the face of what many of you in here have said about it having modest returns on investment. I had read many times that NBA teams were one of the fastest appreciating assets in the world over the past half century but many of you shit on that idea without backing it up with any numbers. Well, read this article and then try to find how the stock market has outperformed NBA franchise appreciation.

Edit: I read that wrong, it's closer to 2 to 1 because the NBA is up 1057% over the last 20 years and the S&P 500 is up 458% over that same time period. Still pretty damning for those of you who claimed that the stock market has always outperformed the valuation increase of NBA teams.

When you consider Paul Allen purchased the Blazers for 70 million and now they're worth up to just under 3 billion.....there aren't many investments that yield that kind of return

Phil's offer is a low ball, initial offer, I suspect.

Yeah, when you look at the contracts being handed out, you know the team / league is in great shape.
