A&E's problem is that there's a good chance 10-15% of the population won't consider watching their network right now. Then there's people who don't like the bigotry who are straight who would boycott the network. Not only the network, but the sponsors.

^^^ those kinds of people weren't likely watching that show anyway so I doubt the network or its sponsors will be adversely affected.

...and even the ones that do will probably offset by NEW viewers who are now intrigued by the recent publicity.

Those people wouldn't watch the show regardless of the comments made... and there was not bigotry in any way...

Duck Dynasty will find a new home on a new network and A&E will have no show of any value to watch... serves them right

Exactly! it violates his freedom of religion AND it violates his freedom of speech...

Freedom of religion and speech apply only to the government, not to what shows A&E shows or who they hire to be on their programs.

FWIW

I'm serious... look at their line-up... Storage Wars, Storage Wars NY, Storage Wars Texas, Shipping Wars, Rodeo Girls, Bonnie & Clyde, Intervention... nothing of any serious potential... Duck Dynasty was drawing in the realm of 12M viewers an episode... That is probably more than the next 10 combined...

Looking at Neilson ratings, Storage Wars is a decent draw for them.

It ranks up there with Colbert Report on Comedy Channel, and they show reruns several (seven?) times on Tuesdays that all get the same ratings.

It must be good for them or they wouldn't make spinoffs like the NY and Texas ones.

Bonnie and Clyde might actually be good, too. Never saw it, but it looks pretty good.

...your very first post, and that was the best you could come up with?...for that, I award you NO points. But to be fair, I understand that all that energy you exerted while creating your user name ("kramerica industries" spelled backwards) probably sapped you of any "cognitive" thinking.

...and sorry, but don't presume to speak for "the rest of the country". You fail to realize that Robertson's views are the same as millions of Christians' beliefs which are based on the New Testament...does that, by default, make those people "Bigots" and "racists"?

...this totally unnecessary shit storm has given the Robertsons more publicity than ever before, and if you think their show in one form or another won't eventually return to TV, you're sadly mistaken.

I'm pretty amazed at this approach that basically says "hey, gay people, get over yourselves". If you don't realize that equal rights movements, among other items, still have a long ways to go in this country, then I don't know what to tell you. I'm a straight man myself, and even have Christian beliefs, but to say that Christianity condemns homosexuality is such a narrow-minded belief and generalization that only uneducated people can honestly believe in it.

You may want to read my last post sparky, maybe then you'll understand. If not then I'm sorry for you.

Yes, bigotry.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bigotry

Bigotry is the state of mind of a bigot: someone who, as a result of their prejudices, treats or views other people with fear, distrust, hatred, contempt, or intolerance on the basis of a person's opinion, ethnicity, race, religion, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, socioeconomic status, or other characteristics.

They may watch other shows on the network though.

...I would tend to think such people would boycott the show they never even watched, instead of the whole network. And any lost or added viewers will revert back to the norm in due time.

...ahh, I see. You're one of those part-time/pseudo Christians...you claim to have "Christian beliefs", but only when it suits your agenda du jour...that makes you the worst kind.
...the Bible is full of references about homosexuality and those verses are obviously subjective but according to you, anyone who interprets those words as being homophobic is being "narrow-minded"...what you don't realize is by saying that, you are actually being "narrow minded" yourself. Don't you just hate it when your own pretzel logic is used against you?

...I do however, find it odd that while on a sports message board that you decided to finally make your first post on an off topic subject...what was your previous SN?...I highly doubt you'll actually disclosed what name you previously posted under...people who are posting incognito are generally like that.

...well, that settles it then...people who believe in the teachings of The New Testament are, by default, bigots.

As I mentioned earlier & I hate being redundant, this was NOT some impulsive anti-gay rant, it was a response (I repeat a response) to a question he was asked by someone who I assume was looking for an HONEST personal opinion. The question was asked & answered.

Maybe these over sensitive clowns should watch a few episodes of the old Dean Martin celebrity roasts........

Milton Berle ( white ) to Flip Wilson ( black ) after using the word raccoon in a story, "Sorry Flip, didn't mean to say COON".

Red Foxx (black) looking side to side at the mostly white dais " I haven't seen this much white meat since my thanksgiving turkey blew up".

Don Rickles to Paul Lynne (gay) " Look at Paul over there having just a gay old time".

My point is that people have to stop acting like its the end of the world every time someone says something that they don't agree with.

This whole thing also reminded me of the day Howard Cosell was suspended after announcing during a football ball game, "look at that little monkey run". Monkeys are fast. And I've no doubt that that was what he meant.

The bigotry is a statement of fact. Just as "it's in the new testament" is, sort of.

For whatever reason, if you judge a whole 30 million or 40 million of this nation's citizens as perverted and their sex lives equivalent to bestiality, and you don't know these people, you are bigoted.

If you think "bigot" has some negative connotation, feel free to explain why.

At one point, Robertson includes "homosexual offenders" among adulterers, idolaters, male prostitutes, drunkards, slanderers, swindlers and "the greedy" as ineligible to "inherit the kingdom of God." In a boxed quote separate from Magary's narrative, Robertson conjures a whimsically rosy image of the old South, remembering working alongside African Americans in the cotton fields: "They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word!. . . Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues."

Who the fuck is going to play 3B this season. 59 and Rick, I'm with you, Hammer you nailed it, and to anyone who post under a different name than normal I say really! Look, I try to respect everyone. I would like the same, but I for one believe that people are not perfect. News Flash. So who wants Headley from SD. And if he is a bigot but hits 30HR's iI'm ok with it, lol.

...if you think the context in which the term "bigot" was used to describe Robertson does not have "some negative connotation, feel free to explain why".

The longing for a return to the good old days of slavery or at least separate fountains might be a clue about his morals.

BINGO

He said that homosexuality, bestiality and adultery were all sins...

He was asked a question... he answered... he is not a bigot, sorry

QC: What, in your mind, is sinful?

Phil: “Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men,” he says. Then he paraphrases Corinthians: “Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”

He didn't say anything hateful, he didn't say anything spiteful, he didn't say anything against anyone in particular. He was asked what a sin was, and he answered. People need to get over it. He spoke the truth, now move on

He's a racist and a bigot. Not something I'd be proud of or defend.

...lmao...this has now gone way past laughable.

...in post #46 above, you stated "If you think "bigot" has some negative connotation, feel free to explain why."

...now 2 posts later you turn around and contradict your self by saying "He's a racist and a bigot. Not something I'd be proud of or defend"

...It's obvious that even you don't know what you mean.

Did you guys miss this? Is the bold font confusing or something?

...maybe the "bold font" will help and won't "confuse you".

and if you had seen or heard anything about him, Phil Robertson has taken people of all colors, creeds, etc. into his house, fed them, and given them money, even when they didn't have money themselves... now why would a racist or a bigot do that???

simple answer, he wouldn't... because he isn't...

people don't care about the actual facts though and just distort everything to make someone else look bad to make themselves feel better...
