With all due respect to the President, the private sector is doing very poorly. I think that is very evident.

I wonder why politicians just can't be honest when they talk.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. --
UPS said Wednesday that it will lay off more than 400 workers at its logistics center in northern Kentucky, a significant cutback in the facility's workforce in response to losing business from an online retailer.

Some 433 people are losing their jobs, the bulk being hourly warehouse workers at the sprawling UPS facility near Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport in Hebron, said UPS spokeswoman Susan Rosenberg.

The cutbacks will begin in mid-March and be completed in April, she said.

This isn't surprising. The private sector has always been doing fine as far as Obams is concerned. He wants, and has always wanted, more growth in the government sector. Bigger government and more deficit spending is the key to long-term market efficiency and stability!!

Well, at least the doofball's advisers had the good sense to have him 'clarify' his ridiculously out of touch comment.

Oh, and corporations are people. Only economic idiots who have worked for a corporation don't know this. :MARIS61:

Obama clarifies: Economy 'not doing fine'

President Barack Obama meant to shore up his economic standing with his press conference Friday, but he ended up in fast retreat.

Obama’s comment —that “the private sector is doing fine” — immediately became a flashpoint for Mitt Romney and congressional Republicans, who quickly attacked the president for being out of touch about the state of the economy.

Within hours, he was backtracking, telling reporters gathered in the Oval Office for a photo spray for his meeting with the president of the Philippines that “It is absolutely clear the economy is not doing fine.”

Obama’s underlying point — that private-sector job growth is outpacing austerity-sapped public payrolls — but saying the underlying private-sector economy is “fine” contradicts the consensus of economists who say this is the weakest recovery from a recession in modern American history.

And it plays into the central Mitt Romney talking point: That Obama is a European-style socialist hopelessly out-of-touch with the free enterprise system.

Plus, it provides a bookend to Romney’s own big gaffe on the economy, his off-key declaration that “corporations are people.”

“For the president of the United States to stand up and say the private sector is doing fine is going to go down in history as an extraordinary miscalculation and misunderstanding by a president who’s out of touch,” Mitt Romney said at a midday rally in Iowa.

Always great to have the latest news.

Yes, one to two months ago is such old news. I'm sure those UPS employees already have new jobs, making even more money than they did before the heartless UPS let them go.

Yer so smart.

You mean the only reason that UPS can actually exist and make a profit?

Haha, the blue collar workers are the reason UPS exists. The nerdy asians are basically engineering a way for dumbass managers to micro-manage the job even more. They implement DIAD programs to get delivering the package down to a 'T'. The company thrived and was prosperous decades before this technology. In essence, the nerdy asian is hired by UPS to find a way to eliminate more driving jobs by cutting corners.

As soon as UPS became public in the mid-90's is when Teamsters and management started hating each other. Hence the shitloads of stupid advertising.

Haha, logistics center. Those are mainly the nerdy asains with mathematics degrees.

Nerdy Asians with mathematics degree get an hourly wage from UPS, and they work in the warehouse?

the bulk being hourly warehouse workers at the sprawling UPS facility

Amazing that UPS would pay someone like you $100k.

Anyhow, what does it matter who lost their job at UPS? Laughing about it seems douchey, but then again, look at the two who are laughing about it.

he was on TV this morning. wants another stimulus package. basically the same speech he's given his entire presidency to get the economy going again....

They work in the warehouse. They aren't Teamsters though. Otherwise they wouldn't just fire 400 workers. Management probably implemented the technology they needed and said, seyonara suckers.

You understand the main point of a Union is job security, right?

I'm not laughing about them getting fired. I'm laughing at the poster who thinks he has a point, but doesn't.

He says the same thing over and over. It's tiresome and circlejerk-ish and hateful at times.

He should really just cast his vote and SHUT THE FUCK UP.

over/under on QE3 to boost the economy?

It would be suicide for him, politically. Most rational people are beginning to understand the printing money, and then giving it to public unions, errrrrrr, using it to create jobs, does nothing of value for the long-term future of this country.

There are the 25%, like the hardcore Obummers on this board, who think short-term and can't look past their hero-worship of him, but the reality is that things are going to have to get worse before our own economic house is in order.

market bump earlier this week due to speculation for this all.

The 25% on this website is meaningless compared to the people that voted him in. Even more meaningless than the people that are going to vote him in again.

It doesn't really bother me that OT board on a Blazer site is a place for neo-con's to congregate. I know the rest of the US doesn't feel the same way.

I guess his Wall Street buddies need the pump primed, and some of that money would probably make its way back to Obama this summer as a thank you.

Yes, yes it is. We have this thing called the internet these days, we don't have to wait 6 months for our news to be delivered by sailing ship around the Horn. Is that really the most recent layoff notice you could find? If so either the economy really is doing great, or your research skills are sadly lacking. As an anecdotal illustration of whatever point you thought you were making, it's completely worthless.

The poster I was addressing works for UPS. Thanks for adding in with your usual ignorant bullshit, though. Well done.

I guess Obama corrected himself.

it is absolutely clear that the economy is not doing fine."

I hope the GOP got that in a soundbite.

So now he admits that the economy he has led, and the economy he ran on in 2008 to improve, is still not doing fine after 3.5 of his "leadership".

Dude is flailing at this point.

Always stay positive in politics unless you're attacking the opponent. Being out of touch for saying the private sector is fine is a better alternative than saying that the economy you ran on fixing still stinks after 3+ years.
