I don't know anything about this protest but I do know that the cops used NO diplomacy or verbal directives before violently attacking the group....these protesters also had zero training in peaceful demonstration....it escalated quickly and in my view unnecessarily...I'll say that I'd rather see cops with tasers and mace than live rounds though....could'be been much worse...some of the onlookers could have diffused the situation without all the screaming and confrontation...the voice of calm is the way to protest ...cops used to talk to people before shoving them around. Poor showing by all involved

Cops in this country have gone from "peace officers" to "law enforcement officers" to a para-military army of occupation.

I dont know, if you go out of your way to make an ass of your self, well, I think you get what you deserve. These ANTIFA/Occupy kids truly have no idea what they are asking for.

I don't know anything about these kids or who they relate to but cops need to be the adults in the room first off......as I said...these kids have no peaceful demonstration training.....from what I saw the bystanders were escalating things but the cops were way too quick to start throwing people on the ground..completely unnecessary...none of those kids was wielding a weapon from what I saw...there was no threat to the police at all. Bullying sets a bad example for law enforcement

Pish..you and I are of an age that we remember, if not participated in a protest or ten..

What the hell? demonstration training? River, come on, you pick on the big boys, you take your lumps.

Bulling? Here is another recent example of "reasonable liberals" right here in Albany Oregon

River, come on, you pick on the big boys, you take your lumps
yeah....I was trained in the military to be patient with those lumps until there was no other recourse....peaceful protest was promoted by Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr...etc.....it's easy to find out how to avoid clashing with the police but I didn't see any protester picking on the cops physically..quite the opposite...cops seemed trigger happy which sadly is a trend...when my son went to OSU I drove past the courthouse to his apartment regularly for 4 years straight and everday there was a protest group outside peacefully protesting...never saw any provocations by them...many looked to be senior citizens...they had clipboards and signs..saying fuck you to a cop is not throwing bricks at a cop....I think the issues are separate...I stood guard duty in San Diego at NTC all throughout my duty there....carried a 45....hippies protested everyday about the war and I never had to unholster the gun.

Thought some might find this of interest. I have been paying attention to this for the past week or so, and have not seen this on the local news.

My phone is too slow today. Is this the one where the kid calls the black guy the N word?

Antifa is quite possibly the single most ironically named organization on the planet.
I don't know that this group of kids was a member of anything....where does the Antifa association stem from? Honest question....didn't see any Nazi's either...both could've been there but I don't assume that's the case

Ha, yeah, I spent a decade there. The city counsel has an avowed communist, complete with a Cuban flag on his lap top. The old hippies are some very pleasant people that you will get a chance to run into at the Renaissance fair.

The ANTIFA/Occupy people on the other hand, make a point of being outrageous. The cops have every right to remove you from their drive way. After they have dealt for days with a presence and they protesters will not vacate the drive, their cops are within their rights to remove you

Being that most of the Occupy crowd is also associated in the ANFIFA protests, and when the mask their faces, bring their own "riot shields" , curse , scream and call those they oppose "Fascists" , That would pretty much tip me off.

I believe it's a Communist group from the Soviet Union in the old days that for some reason has made a comeback in the Western European countries and here from edgy college liberals.

They really hate garbage cans for some reason too.

I attended a 40 yr birthday party that my niece threw for her husband. It was at the Heathman which is kitty corner from the Hilton and it was on the night when President Bush, Jr. was staying at the Hilton and there were huge celebrations by Republicans both in the Hilton and the Heathman. We had two banquet rooms that overlooked a big confrontation between the police and protestors. We had to pass through a barricade manned by police in riot gear. The protesters were friendly as hell to us coat and tie folks trying to pass through them first. Next came the police barricade and they were also extremely nice. While there was some pushing and shoving and some loud words, there was absolutely no violence and these cops were in full riot gear with mounted police right there as well. We had an upstairs pair of banquet rooms with the perfect view right above the barricade.

It can be done. They can confront each other with no violence. Makes you wonder why things have changed in the last year and a half.

I remember back in the early 70s when girl I knew protested something or other. There was a confrontation with police that ended in much violence. According to my friend there were outside agitators from California that started it by throwing rocks at the officers. Throwing rocks at least wasn't the chosen response by locals.

Hahahaha, then you may very well enjoy hearing the tasers and tear gas in the clip.
Although sometimes necessary, I never enjoy the use of tasers and tear gas. I've seen soldiers puke their guts out from tear gas. No fun, no fun, no fun.

Ahh, good times. In boot we had a pissed off DI run us through three times in one day. Thought that was as bad as it could get. Nine months later I was introduced to CS gas among a host of others. Once was enough.

We crawled under barbed wire and then CS was waved on long poles over our heads from behind so we couldn't see it coming. Had to put on your protective mask and clear it, all the while hoping like hell you'd make it in time. Basic was a nightmare in 1967. Hottest summer ever at that time. It took a few decades to exceed that heat. We had 500 forest fires burning simultaneously in Oregon and Washington. A few of them were on Ft. Lewis. Also, because of a spinal meningitis epidemic, we were not allowed home or anywhere else on our huge fort until we graduated. I'll never forget the thrill of graduating and not having to repeat the cycle. Of course, that put me one step closer to combat and that's where the real hell begins. I'm still paying for it.
