Odds of Ice-out Tonight? (100%! Game has been rescheduled.)

I remember going to a Blazers game in late 1971 or early 1972. No ice before the game (we didn't' 24/7 ad nauseum weather coverage in those days) but by the time the game was over there was a thick sheet everywhere. The front parking lot at the old MC had a slight slope away from the building and the ice was so bad no one could get up and out that way. The lot attendants funneled everyone out down hill to Interstate Ave. It was without exaggeration just like bumper cars. Vehicles would glance off each other and just keep going. No one wanted to stop and exchange insurance info because you might get hit again and/or you'd never get traction again. My date lived in St. John's and I had a hell of a time finding streets that were flat enough to get her home. Then I had to get back to SEP. I bet PDX area body shops had a nice run of business for a couple of months after that......

A good date would have offered to let you stay, kept you warm.

Too bad. My dad finally got picked for the t-shirt exchange in our ninth year as ticket holders, and it will probably be postponed.

The weatherman is often wrong. What if they postpone the game & the snow/ice isn't that bad? Not much snow/zirconia at my house right now.

It's not about what's there now, it's about what will be there later. After 5 p.m., IT BEGINS.

What's the worst thing that could happen if they have the game? I can survive on hot dogs, popcorn and beer for a long time...

So, the chance of snow/freezing rain is about 100% today. What are the odds the game gets cancelled tonight? May as well make a game out of it. Post your prediction in photo format as to whether there will/won't, yes/no, etc. be a game format. Winner gets to have Sly come shovel their sidewalk.

Why are you stealing a pay day from @HCP?

NBA announces tonight's game vs. Pistons at the ModaCenter has been postponed until 6 pm Sunday.

ICE, SNOW POSTPONE SATURDAY'S GAME VERSUS PISTONS

Find a safe place to turn around and head back home if you're already started your sojourn to the Moda Center for Saturday night's game versus the Pistons, as the contest has been rescheduled for Sunday at 6 PM due to a ice and snow storm that is forecasted to roll into the Portland metro area Saturday afternoon.

“The safety of our fans and players is always the highest priority, and this decision to delay our home game until Sunday was made with that in mind,” said Trail Blazers President & CEO Chris McGowan via press release. “Input from the NBA, local government and public safety officials also played a role in our decision to postpone until Sunday.”

Forecasts are calling for snow, which has already begun to fall in the metro area, and up to an inch of ice, which could begin to accumulate just as players, coaches, team and arena staff and fans are scheduled to arrive at the arena. Given that prospect and the fact that neither team is scheduled to play again until Tuesday, the decision was made to bump Saturday's game to Sunday, when the whether is expected to be more manageable.

Tickets for the now-cancelled game on Saturday will be honored for Sunday's game. Ticket holders who can't make it to Sunday's game also have the option of trading in their tickets for "a comparably valued game in the future." Fans who do plan on attending Sunday's game are encouraged to show up earlier -- the arena will open at 4:30 pm for the 6 pm tipoff -- and take alternate forms of transportation.

This is the first time in over 10 years that a Trail Blazers home game has been postponed due to weather, with the last instance taking place almost exactly 12 years ago when "severe weather conditions" forced the cancellation of a game between the Trail Blazers and Grizzlies on January 6, 2005. The Trail Blazers did have a game versus the Nets postponed on January 29, 2015 due to snow, though that game was scheduled to take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Saturday's scheduled game between the Portland Winterhawks and Everett Silvertips has also been postponed, though a date for the makeup game is still to be determined.

Yeah, I though once they canceled the winterhawks game, the Blazers weren't far behind

Okay, so it's Australia, not NZ, but it looks pretty darned good right now compared to the snow and ice around here.

Lame. It's just snow. And this is the good kinda snow, at least from a driving standpoint. Ground is frozen so the snow is dry and blows rather than melting and re-freezing.

I won't be surprised if it stays as snow until much later tonight or tomorrow AM, at least up in Portland Metro and near the RG.

Seems like conditions are likely to be worse tomorrow evening than this evening.
