SG and C are the hardest positions to find right now in the NBA.

Man I swore Evan Turner in Philly was going to blow up this season.........Wish we had a big SG like him or Tyreke.

I would like Tyreke but he is restricted. I think we most likely fill SG through the Draft and most likely fill C through Free Agency or a Trade.

That's what I was thinking, until recently. I am not so sure we won't grab a center at 12.

One SG I would not mind going after (and I know it could back fire) is Monta Ellis. (If he declines to pick up his player option) I know he can be a head case and a black hole on offense and that it would give us a short back court....but damn if he and Lillard could play together........our offense would be hard to stop.

Always loved Monta regardless of his size and shot selection. Guy is instant offense.

If we're spending >8mil for our SG, I'd take Iggy over Monta.

In order of SG's, I'd rather have Redick then Turner then Ellis then Evans. If it took a S&T of Wes for one of them, I'd still probably do it for Redick and Turner. Luckily, we'll have the draft past us and know if one of the wings like Shabazz or Oladipo or CJ came here, vice someone like Olynyk/Gobert/etc.

If we happened to get a Top 3 pick and Noel's on the board, do you take him? If not, who?

Can someone tell me if Anthony Bennett is as he sounds: basically a thicker Derrick Williams? A less athletic Larry Johnson?

I've cooled on Zeller big time. Man, I don't think I've seen a player regress like that in a long while. He went from schooling guys in the paint to getting his shot swatted consistently in a matter of a season.

I wonder if Fez feels the same.

Wow I did not realize he is only listed as 6'7". He is a banger, but at 6'7" that will be tough in the NBA. I don't think he can play anything but PF. He does have a huge wing span so that will help.

He's a tough one for me. Watching him play, especially highlights, he looks like he can do anything. I showed a highlight tape of his to some of my friends who NEVER watch college ball and they both said how he moved and stuff reminded them of LeBron because he's so big. He does have a great handle.

How about this guy:

Article here.

Given that we so God-awful at protecting the rim, how about Jeff Withey? Top shot-blocker in the NCAA. Him or Dieng would be pretty safe picks, even if they never turned into NBA starters. Should put those two and Mason Plumlee in a cage and see who emerges. And then there's Len and Steven Adams - it's a bumper year for project centers in the first round.

I think hes absolutely a top 3 player in the draft, if not the top overall guy. He projects to be a difference maker on defense, if nothing else. You hope the offense develops and his health holds up. Any lower than #3 is an absolute steal value-wise.

I wouldn't take McLemore or Muhammed over him. I guess maybe you could argue for Zeller, but he looked shitty for quite a while at the tail end of this season. Oladipo looks good but on pure potential I couldn't justify taking him over Noel. Never seen Bennett or Smart play so I can't comment.

Oladipo pure potential? I don't agree at all.

Noel didn't impress me when he was playing. No skill offensively. Great shot blocker, but not worth a top 5 pick IMO. Now to add injury history, no way.

Wouldn't argue about Noel's lack of skill, but you're telling me there's 5 players in this draft you would take over him? We can agree to vehemently disagree about that.

Oddly enough the best thing that could happen to Noel (as far as his draft stock) may have been what did happened. He is projected by many to go 1st overall. He may have went 1st overall even if he played but he didn't get a chance to have a bad tourney like others (McLemore) and while they are moving down (ever so slightly) he is moving back up.

I've had Noel as the 1st pick before the injury, still think he was the most intriguing talent this year.
I also think Withey could be our pick, I had him going 12 in my mock draft before I realized he blocks like 4 per game. Very polished, smart, inside player, is white but is not afraid of contact and yes, he blocks almost 4 BPG.

I think Mitch McGary should probably stay another year, but I have to wonder if he sort of pulled a "Shabazz" and treated his freshman year like a waiting room for the pro's, because I actually watched most of Michigan's games this year, and I was sold on Glenn Robinson III and Trey Burke, but McGary never showed me anything. I thought he was a product of the hype machine.

If any of ya'll follow college recruiting, the rumor was that McGary was going to try to go HS-to-pro despite the rule, because he was actually 19 at the time. Then he went to Michigan and just faded into the background. (To be fair, he sort of started his coasting before Michigan. During his senior year of high school, when he got dominated against Tilton HS and Nerls Noel, and McGary dropped from #2 in the nation in the rankings to in the 20's just because of his disinterest in that game.)

To put it into perspective how touted of a recruit McGary was though, when he committed to Michigan over Duke, UNC, and Kentucky, he said he did so because at Michigan, he thought he could be the face of the program and leave his own legacy. That's how highly recruited he was... that he could basically say, fuck the Fab 5, I'm going to be the face of Michigan hoops.

With that said, the talent's undeniable. He's had the best tournament of any player, regardless of their class. He shoots like Dwight from the FT line, can't consistently hit the midrange, but he's still a smarter version of DeAndre Jordan at the same age (when McGary actually shows up for the game mentally).

I wonder about his mental approach to preparation though, just because he's underachieved from HS to Michigan. He's shown not just ability but fire and intensity in March, but you still have to second guess it knowing what he failed to do in the months prior.

He might have been coasting during the regular season, but if you knew nothing of his history and saw him for the first time in the tournament, you'd think he'd be a sure-fire top five pick. Living in the day we live in though, with disappointing SrHS/Fr regular seasons, he's slated in the late first by most mocks. If I were drafting late lottery, I'd jump all over him.

He's a hard one to peg, but I have to wonder what really makes Cody Zeller #9 in NBADraft.Net's mock and Mitch McGary #22.

EDIT:

I have to post his numbers in the tournament versus his regular season numbers, just to show the "improvement" (aka, him actually giving a shit) -

Regular Season:

7.4 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 0.5 apg, 0.7 bpg

Tournament:

1st round - 13 pts, 9 rbs
2nd round - 21 pts, 14 rbs
Sweet 16 - 25 pts, 14 rbs
Elite 8 - 11 pts, 9 rbs, 2 blks, 5 stls
Final Four - 10 pts, 11 rbs, 6 asts, 2 blks

^^^^

He's clearly got more talent than he was showing during the regular season. Just watching the games, his play is even bigger than his impressive numbers. He's diving for loose balls, taking charges, and doing the dirty work. I watched him several times in Big-10 play, and he never showed shit. I thought he was the most overrated prospect Michigan ever recruited, but watching him during tournament play just makes me think he was just biding his time until the NBA.

Nbadrft.net has him at 18. DX at 28.

.

I think he was hurt:

"After struggling in his first months in Ann Arbor, McGary can diagnose what’s fueled his breakout postseason for the Wolverines, one in which he’s dealt with plantar fasciitis — inflammation of the connective tissue in the sole of the foot — through the course of the year.

As a healthy 6-foot-10, 255-pound forward, his confidence level has gone up. His weight has gone down. He’s ditched the pizza, hamburgers, and candy that he once craved when he was sidelined with an ankle injury earlier this season.

“It helps the motor even more,” McGary said of his weight loss, which he estimated at 20 pounds. “I’m a high-motor guy who likes to get going and just stay active. Now, with less weight and having more endurance, I’m able to stay on the court.”

Didn't know all that about McGary's history, didn't even know he was that highly recruited. Never would have thought his motor was in question based on the tourney games. I thought his emergence was only due to the coach's decision to make him a starter.

As for his draft stock, he seems like a top 10ish prospect but I dunno about top 5. Hes got excellent hands and mobility for a guy his size. Not really an explosive leaper though. Not much to fall back on offensively. I question how well he'll finish at the rim in the NBA. I think his mid-range J is actually pretty decent for a freshman big man but certainly not highly advanced. Defensively I also have some doubts. Don't think he'll be a shotblocker like he is in college. Dunno if hes fast enough to keep up with a lot of NBA 4s yet at 6'10 hes sort of small to play C.

Steve Kerr said he reminds him of David Lee. I get the comparison but Lee's smaller and much more agile and uses that to his advantage along with his great jumper. At this point I think a Nick Collison or Kris Humphries comparison is more realistic. Good size, decent athlete but not exceptional by NBA standards, hard worker, good motor, physical, skilled enough to finish off plays created by teammates but you wouldn't iso him.

Thought I'd revive this thread with my draft day wishes.

Wish #1: Select Steven Adams with our pick.
Wish #2: Trade Meyers Leonard to Dallas for the 13th.
Wish #3: Select C.J. McCollum

Step a year back in development, but get a project big with a skillset that fits and a guy like C.J. who'll be able to do a lot of the things Jack is doing with Curry in GSW as a back-up 1/2.

That sounds horrible
