I agree with your basic point - but I wouldn't touch Gobert. There is minimal evidence the guy can actually play basketball. Sadly, that often becomes an afterthought this time of year.

I agree, I think he's a 20 area pick, he ain't ready nor close IMO

Based on zero knowledge, other than the small bits I've read, my two choices are Shabazz and Gobert. Typically I wouldn't pick a player like Shabazz, but right now I'm willing to take a bit of a chance given that (a) our draft position isn't that great in a "weak" draft, and (b) the lack of SG talent in the league. Also, Gobert looks skinny but his height/reach is really intriguing - also, I'm assuming there'd be built-in chemistry with Nic. At only 20 he could still grow another inch or two, and should be able to put some muscle on that frame.

I don't want either one there are other C's and wings I much prefer who IMO will be there for us at 10. I'd take Adams over Gobert but 10 is too high for both of them unless they kill it in workouts

Gobert's mobility/lateral movement is certainly going to be exposed on this level.

I already was very lukewarm on this guy; seeing that clinches it. I would never draft a guy like that.

He definitely needs to mature a bit, but I don't want to give too much importance to the video. I posted the video back here in Feb thinking it was a big deal, but have since changed. I remember reading people question CP's character in 05 after he punched Julius Hodge in the groin and got suspended. And most of the same people loved how good of a character Marty was.

"Digging into the numbers for our annual stat articles. Shane Larkin led the NCAA in creating offense on the pick and roll, impressive." -- DX

Do we even want to win the draft lottery?

If you the Blazers can't trade the pick that's just more money they have to spend on their #1 selection, a guy who will be pretty ehhhhh

Would be nice to win it and trade down or even see what is offered for the #1 pick.

off of a 2 second shot of him walking off the court you pass on drafting the guy? lol

Yes, but only to package it for DMC or one of the Detroit bigs.

I'v had the feeling we were going to win the draft for about two weeks now and its a draft I could really care less about if we win it. Would rather trade down or just fully trade the pic away this year.

I like to apply the "foxhole test" to potential draft or trade targets; and I have no problem with a groin puncher in the fox hole with me; as long as he punched someone from another team. As far as a guy who has no interest in the success of the squad; no, i don't want him in the foxhole with me.

Last year I was in a small gym packed w/NBA execs when the athletic testing results came out. Not a single person gave a damn about them...

lolz

Post-Combine:
Ford has Blazers picking Dario Saric. Shabazz dropping to 14.

nbadraft.net and draftexpress.com still have not updated their mocks.

Saric is a lotto talent but his defense is atrocious and his jumper needs a ton of work.

...at least according to Givoni.

Btw, the day of the combine Ford dropped Shabazz in his rankings.

I would barf if we drafted Saric. I don't think Olshey is stupid like that though.

Ford doesn't think Larkin will last to the late first. A lock to go mid-first, could go late lotto.

Please no Saric... I do not want to have to look at that ugly motherfucker in a Blazers jersey.

NV is right, you shouldn't listen to the short fat Jew from NY, you should listen to the tall, vegan Jew from Israel (me)

Oh, he deleted his post. You should still listen to me ;)

I apologize for that remark. I tend to drink, post, generalize, and delete a lot whilst drunk. To edit the remark, I guess I'd say that it just so happens a lot of the guys that are "experts" are short, fat "Northeasterners." (There may be someone who breaks the mold occasionally, but the "experts" are usually at least two out of the three stereotypes I listed... I've got a point of reference from seeing them around AAU competitions.)

The point I was rambling on about remains the same though... a lot of people who never watched these guys play are taking the opinions of unqualified "draft experts," and they're in turn posting their opinions on these players as if they know their game. Where were all of these posters during the college basketball season though? Presumably not watching the prospects play...

We've got a thread of posters giving their draft comparisons for the players. How many of these guys have seen them actually play more than once (at best). I'm calling bullshit on most of the posters in those threads. The threads should be titled, "Based on Jonathan Givony's review of this player, what's your comparison for him?"

I usually don't watch many college games but this year I noticed they're televised almost daily on ESPN or FoxSports here in Israel and decided I'll do some scouting... And I'm sorry about what I said in the Pierre Jackson discussion, I do appreciate your posting, you know a lot about college basketball, no doubt. I wish you were a Blazers fan but nobody׳s perfect and it's not like you're trolling like I did on ClutchCity (Rockets site) years ago. I got into a heated discussion telling them Rasheed Wallace is better than Scottie Pippen until they couldn't stand me anymore and sent Pippen to Portland for Brian Shaw ;)

Out of sheer coincidence, I watched Batum play Gallinari in France in 2007, where I still thought Batum was intriguing, but Gallinari was a man-child. Couldn't be stopped.

When I retire, maybe a team would let an old guy like me scout games and watch tape. Seems like there is a market for guys like that.

I've also seen Batum in Europe. His team played Maccabi Tel-Aviv and he had 20-something points in a perfect shooting game (didn't miss one shot). Didn't know he'll become such a defensive force, though.
