I don't think you trade both Davis AND Plumlee. If you sign someone like Horford, you then trade one or the other.
I do think of you can get a great wing player you trade both.

PF Moe (28) / Vonleh (15) / Leonard (5)
C Horford (33) / Leonard (15)

Replace Horford with a different starting C and it still works.

I don't really get the feeling Plumlee is very valuable in the trade market. He's kind of a throw in. Aminu is probably the most valuable of the three. The goal in a trade is to end up with the best player. What team has a player who is clearly superior to any of those three, that has to trade that superior player or lose him for nothing? That's the only way we are trading three backup level players for a difference maker. And when I say backup level, I mean on a contender. Not to mention that team would have to absorb three front court players, only one of whom is a marginal starter.

Oh, ok.

Good question. I wish I had an answer. :)

That's why I come here though. Because we have some good arm chair GMs. :)

I was thinking of an arm chair GM proposal.

Sign Marvin Williams and Joakim Noah

Trade that whole package for... Jimmy Butler?

Lillard / McCollum
McCollum / Crabbe
Butler / Crabbe
Williams / Harkless / Vonleh
Noah / Leonard

Or maybe Paul Millsap?

Lillard / McCollum
McCollum / Crabbe
Harkless / Crabbe
Millsap / Williams / Vonleh
Noah / Leonard

Either way those teams would be way better than this years. Noah and Williams seems like such Olshey signings, so I was thinking of how he could improve the team beyond signing 2 guys like that.

Dwight Howard seems to be the most likely big name FA to move and after listening to that TNT interview, he seems very motivated to have a bounce back season. If the Neal & Co. can sell him on this team, Stotts' has the ability to keep him engaged offensively (while still maximizing his efficiency) which should help motivate him to be a force again defensively. That gives this team a serious chance at contention.

I think we should maybe keep Henderson. He didn't have a great playoffs but is an excellent wing scorer and a good all around player.
Thoughts?

I like Hendo but he is very one dimensional offensively. When it really mattered, Golden State jumped his right hand and took away his 1-2 dribble pull up jumper going right. Without that, he seemed lost. He tried going left but it was very tentative and you could tell he wasn't comfortable. Crabbe can take on more minutes quite easily and then give some scraps to Montero who can pass, dribble, create and shoot....just is extremely raw.

I'm very hopeful about Alexander and Montero making good summer leagues and getting real minutes next season. We need to figure out who we want to keep and then find out what we need to improve on. I agree Crabbe is a keeper, Meyers also and I think Harkless as well

Hoops Habit: 5 Roster Moves the Blazers Need to Make

Their list:
  1. Sign a quality center (specifically a defensive anchor)
  2. Sign a 2-way small forward
  3. Re-sign Gerald Henderson
  4. Sign an offensive-minded power forward
  5. Improve the bench
So basically, this "article" is saying that aside from the starting guards, everything needs to improve. Crazy thing is, if we were to follow my low-key realistic plan of signing Cole Aldrich and Marvin Williams, then re-signing Crabbe/Harkless (& Meyers, maybe), that would handle numbers 1, 4, and 5 (pushing Aminu and Plumlee to the bench), and Harkless' natural growth could possibly take care of #2 all by itself.

I guess I'm coming around to think that's what we might have to settle for, except I would rather go for Mahimni instead of Aldrich (who I think you have also mentioned). Would probably have to renounce Leonard to get them both and have some left over for a good defensive backup PG. I like both those guys because they can play both offense and defense.

By the way, I can't find any free agent PG who would have the length and athleticism to be a good defender. Anyone else? Is there anyone overseas? Blazers had some guys in but I couldn't find anything about any of them being top notch defenders.

Matthew Dellavedova (who is restricted) is a pesky defender but I don't think we will get him.
Greivis Vasquez (who is unrestricted) is a pretty good defender but he has really regressed offensively lately.

I know it's a longshot but Mike Conley is one of my favorite PGs. I wonder if we can get him relatively cheap and have him play 24 minutes a game in a 3-guard rotation with Dame and CJ

No, SAS are rumored to be interested in him as Tony Parker's heir apparent. He'd be a great fit in their system - great defender who can drive and hit the little in-between runners like Parker.

Besides, why would he take less money in the prime of his career to come here and be a back up? He's still capable of starting for over 3/4ths of the teams in the league.

Chalmers is the only one I could find. As such, I hope the Blazers get a pick to draft GPII or McCaw

Of course the Spurs would want him but we have more money.
He may be in the prime of his career but is very injury prone and playing a smaller role can keep him healthy for the playoffs

We may have more money, but they have enough money, which is all that matters.

But, your premise is we could get him as a cheap back up. Not happening. He won't be cheap and he won't be a back up, here, or anywhere else.

Besides, we have bigger problems to address with our cap space than back up PG. Yeah, we need a back up PG, but we're not going to blow a significant portion of our cap space on one.

So Lebron as our back up SF is out of the question?

Of course not, he'd start for us. I know you're being facetious, but any upgrade at starting 3, 4 or 5 is where we should be spending our cap space, not on a backup PG.
