[ official ] 2016 summer moves

Welcome to our community

Be a part of something great, join today!

CJ for Okafor might be worth it, though I think we might have to pony up more.

Though a step down, Hendo and Crabbe, and even Harkless can ably man the SG spot. And we get the inside scoring option we seem to need.

Man, if we're going to move CJ, I would push hard for Boogie.

I'm gonna TRY to be realistic

1. Trade Vonleh for Kyle Korver plus #44 overall pick and 2017 2nd round pick.

2. Draft Gary Payton II with #44 overall pick.

3. Sign Al Horford to super max.

4. Match Crabbe and Harkless, have Meyers sign the Qualifying Offer.

5. Extend CJ and Plumlee.

Dame / GP2
CJ / Crabbe / Montero / Patty
Aminu / Korver
Horford / Harkless / Alexander
Plumlee / Meyers-Davis

Not MAJOR changes but we get more offensive firepower. And a lot of different lineups to be thrown at others.
Well maybe Plumlee would do better playing with a big time power forward by his side. But with the game on the line, he's a nice player with nice skills but he just gets outwitted and outmatched. Maybe PF position would suit him better.

This might be a great move for both teams!

He does fill out the stat sheet. Except games played.

I think he's something of a bonehead. Would he be a net plus?

Here's how I think we'll pursue it.
1st players contacted: Kevin Durant, Al Horford, Pau Gasol
-If we signed Al Horford for the max and kept our cap holds on Harkless($4M), Leonard($4M), and Crabbe($2.7M), wed have approximately $7M in cap space. We'd need to clear $20M to sign Durant, but we'd still pursue him hard. If he signed, we'd renounce Harkless, Leonard, and we'd trade Aminu, Vonleh + filler contracts for picks. We could still keep Crabbe. Signing Gasol for less would mean we wouldn't have to clear as much space and we could keep more guys.

Basically, we have the ability to keep Dame and CJ while adding any 2 of Kevin Durant, Al Horford, and Pau Gasol.
Therefore we don't have to prioritize them as in "We have to go after Horford for the most part instead of worrying about Durant..." We can go hard after all three of these guys, likely landing one without having to get rid of anybody, but being ready to do some cap gymnastics in case we strike gold and sign two.

The next wave of players will be interesting. I have no clue who the options will be after that.

By my calculations (here), we'll have a max of $45,340,064 to offer free agents if we renounce everybody not guaranteed. A max contract for a 0-7 yr vet will be approximately $27.6M. We won't have space to go after 2 max players.

Your cap holds noted above do not look correct. If we assume we are going to maintain our rights to Leonard ($7.6M), Harkless ($7.2M), Crabbe ($1.2M), Montero ($874K), and Alexander ($874K), then we have $27.4M in cap space. Just about enough to offer one max contract.

Who can we trade for? That needs to be the question. No difference making free agent is coming here to push us to the next level. We can add guys like Davis and Aminu, who are QUALITY roll players, but that's what they are. Probably could use a 3rd scoring option defense have to scheme for. Interior defense is something else we are lacking.

So, who are those guys?

Monroe, who may or may not have helped us, chose Milwaukee over us.

I posted this earlier in another thread but it's applicable here -

Here's my thoughts on who they should target this summer in descending order (* Preferences in Bold *)

Bring back:
* M Harkless (Restricted. Contingent on reasonable contract)
* A Crabbe (Restricted. Contingent on reasonable contract)
- M Leonard (Restricted. Very contingent on reasonable contract)
- G Henderson (Not restricted, but if the right price and timing work out..)

Offer Max:
- K Durant (yes, we've got to do the token try)
* A Horford (doubt he'll leave Atlanta, but again, give it a try)
- H Whiteside (doubt Olshey will want to give him the max, but worth an offer)
- C Parsons (someone will probably give him the max, and this doesn't feel like a bargain that Olshey typically goes after)
- R Anderson (see Parsons note above)
- D DeRozan (I think his price will be too high, and not a position of high need with CJ and Crabbe on the roster.)

At the right price:
* B Biyombo (age 23)
* E Turner (age 27)
* F Ezeli (age 26)
- E Fournier (age 23. Not a position of need, but perhaps at the right price.)
- K Bazemore (age 26. Not a position of need, but perhaps at the right price.)

At a bargain price:
- M Speights (age 28)
- I Mahinmi (age 29. Good uptick in production this year.)
- Al Jefferson (age 31)
- Z Pachulia (age 32)
- M Teletovic (age 30. Good uptick in production last year.)

I'm not thinking the Blazers will be looking to make a trade to bring in talent. The only pieces we realistically have to trade are CJ and Dame, and I'm not interested in trading either of those guys.

We may see a minor cost saving trade after the season ends and before the draft with a team trying to get under the tax threshold. Blazers may pick up a bit of salary and stretch it similar how they did with Varajao.

Keep Crabbe and Harkless and let the other FAs go. That should give us about 35 mil of space.

Sign Horford (max, 25 mil) and Marvin Williams (10 mil).

Dame
CJ
Chief
Marvin
Horford

with Crabbe/Hark/ Plums/Ed coming off the bench.

That crew has everything. Strong defense in the front court. Multiple dynamic creators and finishers, shooting.

Easily a 55 win team if healthy.

And in your opinion, which of those players you mentioned puts us at a different level? Of the one's who realistically would come here. Horford is a guy that would seem to be a good fit in name, but does his game translate to what the Blazers do? He is pretty much a low post guy, although he did shoot about three 3 pointers per game this year at a good clip. Is he going to be the equalizer for Aldridge, Griffin, Green? That's the level we need to get to. IMO, only 1 back court is better than ours offensively. I think what we need is a front court guy who can score in bunches if needed, but also play defense. That could be Horford? Maybe it's both Horford and DeRozen? People don't seem to want DeRozen because he can't shoot threes, but his true shooting % was a solid .550 and a 21.5 on the ever overused PER stat

Whiteside, and McBuckets.

Dame/Cj/Roberts
Cj/Crabbe/Pat
Mo/ McBuckets/Montero
Aminu/Davis/Vonleh
Whiteside/Plumlee/Nards

I think Cj should come off the bench for the betterment of the team. But idk if that will happen.

Horford couldn't be further from a low post guy. Maybe initially in his career, but the last two years under his new coach, he has been a face up dude who thrives in P&R. He'd be the finisher that Plums isn't ANNNND he can stretch out to the three now. I don't think there could be another better fit for this team now (skillwise anyway), except for Draymond.

Someone somewhere did the math but IIRC, we only have around 32M in capspace if you keep Crabbe and Hark.

What is this fascination with Okafor? If Olshey wanted a low post scorer that doesn't offer much defensively, he could just go get Greg Monroe on the relative cheap.

Ya

We can just go get him like the way we tried to last summer.

Okafor is 20 years old. His career so far has been something like Durant's at the same age, though different position.

In other words, I like his upside.

Like Durant? How? You can gameplan to eliminate a post player. You can't eliminate a Durant.

To be fair though, he chose Milwaukee over the team that looked like it'd win 23, not over the team that ended up winning 44.

At age 19, Okafor put up a 17.1 PER. At age 19, Durant put up a 15.8 PER.

If his career path goes as I imagine, you won't be able to gameplan to eliminate him. Much as it didn't work for prime DHoward, Shaq, etc. I don't think they're even really eliminating guys like Monroe.

If Okafor is anything like Durant this early then it would take Dame to get him not CJ and parts. Might as well of said Okafor was going to progress like Tim Duncan. Just throw out once in a lifetime comparisons.

It's interesting to focus on the high market guys like Durant and Horford, cor other big name guys like Dwight Howard...but of all the names dropped here in this thread two stand out...Jan Vasely mentioned by fez and Bismack Biyombo mentioned by KeeponRollin...these guys have Neil Olshey written all over them...I think even if just resign our guys and get one of these ( or both though doubtful) guys we will be better for it....

I don't want to change our team too much, add a few guys dissolve ourselves of a few of our lesser contracts..

Yeah, we're going to shore up with more hungry mid-level guys if we can't hit a home run right away, and wait to see if Meyers, Vonleh, or the -ito pups can grow into something more.

Let's get Horford AND Joakim Noah, and then maybe Taureen Green can win us 5 games.

Okafor is a poor man's Enes Kanter.

Which makes me worry that he is a target.

(I'm getting serious deja vu with just about every post I make in this thread. Better stop.)

fer real though
you watch this stuff here, dude plays a HELL of a lot bigger than he actually is

can he shoot free throws though?
