They'd look fine, because they're still just as good now as they were before the trade, and I don't think they'd be all that much better with DeRozan. High reward, little risk.Ujiri is a real good scout no question. He has been one for almost 20 years at the NBA level. He also has made some real good decisions as a GM no question. Personally i think he gets a bunch of credit and actually way too much really. He would not have beaten a healthy Golden State team last year. Even more so, if they had lost and then lost Leonard how would he look?
Raptors are doing well and they are to be commended for sure. Ujiri has had a very positive impact.
Nobody was beating a healthy Golden State. But Ujiri took a risk to put his team in position to capitalize on the Warriors not being at full strength.
He doesn't get too much credit IMO. He landed the best undrafted rookie free agent this year in Terence Davis who is a good role player on a contender right now, and could develop into a legit starter at some point. Boucher is another undrafted gem. Norman Powell is having a terrific year and he was a second round pick. The Gasol trade was a huge win. He got a legit 3-and-D starter on a contending team with the 23rd pick a couple years ago in OG Anunoby.
All I see is phenominal, low-risk, high-value moves that was punctuated by what's perceived as a "high risk" move in going after Kawhi, however after losing a consensus top 3 player, they're still 40-15, and have all their future picks.
Ujiri is probably the best GM out there IMO.
EDIT - Forgot to mention: drafting Siakam at 27, when that was thought to be a reach at the time.
