My FiL is quite proud of his children, as all 5 of them are well-educated and successful women. He's a good grandpa to his granddaughters, and he adores his only grandson (my boy). He's a registered Republican, and has consistently voted R in every Presidential Election. He sat out in 2016 but voted for Biden in 2020 (first time he's ever voted D). He cannot stomach Trump but he'll never vote for a woman. He's going to sit this one out.Maybe one of the guys can explain this.
I understand half the gender gap. Trump boasts of overturning Roe. He is legally responsible for rape. His words and actions towards women have been despicable for decades. So women favoring Harris by a large margin isn't surprising.
It's the other half of the gender gap that needs explaining. Unlike Hillary Clinton, who had been demonized for years, Harris doesn't have strong negatives. She is physically attractive and personable. She is running on a centrist platform. Yet male voters, including many who voted for Biden, aren't supporting her. Is it just that men won't vote for a woman? Because a woman can't be qualified? Is she automatically seen as weak or at least weaker, rather ironic considering how weak Trump is? Are men so insecure they can't handle a successful woman? What?
On a positive note, our neice, who's been doing phone banking for the Harris/Walz Campaign, got my MiL to vote for the first time since she's been a U.S. citizen. My FiL wasn't particularly pleased, but we're all very proud of her!
