Could we go from being #1 in the league early in the season, to getting the #1 pick? That would be quite the journey. Remember starting 5-1 and being as good as 10-4 before going 1-7? Ahh, good times.
Sad really.

If you are GS wouldn't you want to match up against Sac versus Phoenix in firs round?

Of course it is. Didn't think green font was necessary.

It was a fun start, but historically, with rare exceptions, a team is led to the Title by a bigger player and one who plays defense. For as good as Dame is, he is neither of those. One of those he can't control and in some part, that affects the other. Regardless, a good friend of mine is convinced that while Dame will be the leader, he can't win a title as the best player on the team. Whether that is an unlikely trade of obtaining someone who fits that caliber, or getting lucky in the Draft, all of Dame's offensive production was almost destined to have the results that it has without a bigger, better, more defensive oriented player on this roster.

It is why I railed for years about the CJ pick from way back. Nice score, but it did NOTHING to put this team in a place where historical Finals winners have been. Dame/Ant was the same problem. At least Shaedon has more height and more defensive potential, but there still needs to be added a player of size who has MAJOR impact. Otherwise, this will just continue to be a nice little pedestrian team.

And that is sad.

Gsw won 2 titles with the best player being small and defensively limited. He did have great defensive players including a defensive player of the year near him.

California über Dallas (all of Texas, actually - bluest state >> reddest state)

Honestly . . . We're going to all regret not tanking every game to get this dude."
What a great season that would be! Every team racing every other team to the bottom in a mad competition to see who can lose better. Good stuff.

If there was one guy you would do it for, it's the 7'5 guy who can shoot like KD while being an all nba defender.

So you wouldn’t care if every team in the league was trying to lose every game of the season?

I would understand it but obviously it's an option for all non title contenders. We pivoted fairly easily

agree...and they dont want to do us any favors either.
The Warriors will very much want to beat the Trail Blazers.
Winning guarantees being in the Playoffs.

if the Warriors lose to the Blazers, the Warriors most likely Won't Be in the playoffs, they'll be in the play-in.

the same goes for the Clippers. They absolutely want to win both of their remaining games to guarantee getting into the playoffs.

Huh? Hes a perennial mvp candidate. Luka/giannis/jokic/embiid are the obvious guys you should be willing to give up Sharpe for.
I don’t think he’s gonna win anything. I think he’s toxic. He has Kobe’s arrogance but can you imagine Kobe getting fat? It would never happen. Players putting on weight like that is a red flag.

And what are Portland’s chances of getting Wemby after that pivot? 12%? 15%? 20%?

compared to the 0% for another 1st round playoff exit

if the Blazers spend 8 years in the lottery then a 1st round exit would be entertainment. But we've seen that movie way too often. A chance at a generational talent is more valuable than another 5-6 wins in another lost season

Especially with how the play-in worked out for the Clips last year.

This is a sure thing, and we in Portland (who have definitely not been cursed) should get to take on this once in a generation cent--- err power forward.

All I can say is brace yourself on draft day, because you’re probably going to be disappointed. The odds are not on your side.

10.5%

Double what it was like 2 weeks ago.
My God. Seriously? We’re throwing away the last part of the season for the second year in a row for a 10% chance of getting Wemby?? This is desperation taken to a whole new level.

I’ve thought that for years. It’s incredible to me that Portland has never been able to (or tried to) pair Lillard up with a dominant big.

If not Wemby, the Blazers have a good chance at another Shaedon Sharpe, or at least a player with talent that would cost significantly to obtain in a trade. Or a good chance at trading the pick for a player that would be impossible to obtain otherwise.
