Watching the Spurs: Zach Collins has become the player we wanted him to be. Nobody watching them nowadays would say that John Collins was better than Zach. Zach is a genuine two-way player, solid offense and good-to-great defense.
His play was pretty good in Portland, he was a critical role player on the WCF run. Season ending injuries two years in a row and ownership that wouldnt pay luxury tax ended his time here. Was a good gamble for the Spurs on that cheap contract - they might be able to flip him for a FRP by the deadline.

I don’t have a huge fondness for either, except to say that we should probably all get comfortable with the team bringing young guys in and moving them along within a year or two. the moment the team gets hung up on any one player who doesn’t have a long term future with the team will slow down the wheels of the rebuild, IMO. and yea, that might mean that said player is ‘nice’ or ‘fairly good’ or ‘total vibes’.
Well the issue was Watford was acquired for nothing which was good, but cut from the team for nothing which was bad.

Murray cost us Hart when we had thoughts of trying to win now with Dame, then cost us assets during the draft as the phone was ringing off the hook with teams trying to get in the first round. Blazers should've got much better value from that pick than a 23 year old with limited upside who isn't ready to contribute now. Just a poor return on a quality asset that traces back to a primary piece in the CJ trade.

I'm a big supporter of Cronin moves with #7, #3, and most critically the Dame trade. But these minor moves with Watford and FRP move with Murray look like Olshey style mistakes.

All that said, we should probably give Murray ‘longer’ than just preseason. I still think he’s going to be decent.

So hang onto Watford until you get the right price for him back? Now ‘that’ sounds like CJ’s music.

I’m not freaking out because Watford played free jazz in a preseason game with defense sliders at zero. He’s a fine player but that’s it.

I'd think Stotts has something going on in his personal life or just though it would be best for a different assistant to work with Dame.

Him and Dame have such a close relationship might have been a mutual decision where they both though it'd be best for fresh ideas or a different voice. I'd assume Dame and Terry already discussed this.

Was my first thought here. New coach has a vet coach as his sounding board assistant, but then the top 75 player the assistant coach had for years is now on the team, not an environment that makes the head coach feel secure. Especially if one is a defense coach and the other an offense coach. Good for Stotts if he saw the writing on the wall. But he may have been asked to move on as well. I didn't pay attention to Stotts being there until Dame was traded, but did think it could not end well.

Aces repeated as WNBA champions after a come from behind one point victory over New York.
Mazel tov to Aces and coach Becky Hammon (although I was rooting for NY).
Must be nice to have 3 consecutive #1 overall picks. Too early to call 'em a dynasty, but they're on track to be one.

Wasn’t Hammon under scrutiny for creating a hostile work environment?

Where have all the big men gone?
The NBA have ignored them every one.
Oh, When will you ever learn?

I notice a lot of the likely playoff teams are playing most of their starters substantial minutes in the final games of the pre-season

for Denver, tonight, Jokic, Gordon, KCP, and Murray have all played at least 28 minutes and it's still the 3rd Q

Boston played everybody in their starting lineup at least 23 minutes. That was against Charlotte who played their starters over 24 minutes each. Chicago's projected starters averaged around 30 minutes tonight. Pretty much the same with Brooklyn last night

a lot of teams aren't as dismissive of the pre-season as Portland was. Of course, those teams are projected for playoff spots and are trying to get their gears oiled. I don't think the Blazers have the same design

Nurkic was 1-11 tonight. 5 points, 8 rebounds, 2 turnovers in 19.5 minutes. He always seems to have trouble against AD

Nurkic 1/11 FG. How is it possible to shot so bad as a Center all the time? It's not like he's a rookie or something, he's a Vet and still doesn't know how to shot
