How many times has the "but he's only x" years old excuse turned out to be in reference to a player that actually proved the original statement wrong, vs how many times did it fail...just for Blazers in the modern era. Let's see from memory:

Drastically improved:
Jermaine O'Neal

Ended up being the the duds they looked like when they were young:
Telfair, Webster, Outlaw, Leonard, Little, Woods...

The difference is, Telfair, Webster and Outlaw were all reaches at their positions, Sharpe wasn't.

Leonard was just a bad pick.

And little and woods were not lotto picks. And in the case of Little, there's a reason he dropped.

That should’ve been a charging call. Bronny doesn’t have to be facing him to take a charge. The rare run into my back charge.
You have to be there first and established for it to be a charge. Bronny was not. He got there late and he initiated the contact on a player in the act of jumping. Absolutely 100% a foul.

And the fact that he flexed before he hit him shows that he had intent on the body, not the ball. Flagrant.

You know that is the one point that i simply cannot argue against. It's so very true for both Scoot and Sharpe.
Anyway I was kind of more bitching about the lakers getting a decent player with my original statement. The head and shoulders part might have been a bit over the top but at least at this point Knecht looks to be way more NBA ready.
WE are good at drafting….

That's debatable. No one was [reportedly] scrambling to get ahead of us to pick him, and he was available there precisely because of the uncertainties that have led him to still being only potentially more valuable than where he was picked.

I love tall, long playmakers. Walt Williams, Lamar Odom, Steve Smith, Ben Simmons…… bring this kid in!

Rutgers is gonna be special this year. Two top 5 draft prospects?

I think you’re confusing Walt Williams with Scottie Pippen.

I remember Walt as a strictly catch and shoot guy.

So after we draft one of these top guys in this year‘s draft will then have the greenlight to start winning?
Only if Scoot or Sharpe have popped. And even then we probably need another year.

And we'll probably need to get Simons and Grant out of the way before either of those guys can pop.

Son google him. Handles and dimes! Probably only averaged 3 assists a game, but they were smooth. Guy ran PG.

Webster was a reach and brutal when there was CP3 taken as well as Deron Williams. But you can't group the others with him.

Outlaw was a great pick @ #23 and the key to the Blazers eventually acquiring Marcus Camby. Even after his Blazers career he signed a $35 million contract. Had some many helpful seasons as a Blazer being a key role player or occasional starter. No he never became a great starter as we had hoped but he far exceed the expected value of a late first round pick as is typical at #23.

Telfair was taken at #13 and two years later the Blazers flipped him for the pick that became Brandon Roy at #6. So no that wasn't a reach at all, Blazers actually netted much more value in the deal.

I'm ok with the Leonard pick (#11 is a lot different that #3). He had amazing shooting. The pick was fine. It wasn't a great pick but it wasn't terrible. The problem was 4 years later after he tore his elbow we gave him a 40 million contract in that stupid Olshey/Cronin 2016 offseason.

The #3 pick used on Scoot was worth a TON and expected to be a HAUL. You can't compare it to any of the other mentioned Blazer picks except for the Webster pick, or Oden, or LMA.
