Christian Wood to the Lakers. Don’t know who that is, is that good or bad for us?

The Lakers will be Wood's 8th team in 8 seasons.

from reddit:
-He doesn't play defense, he's bad at running plays, and he's supposedly a bad teammate.

-Box score watchers realizing that zero defense doesnt show when he goes 20/5/.5
Its actually incredible at his size he manages to play like bones hyland

-Imagine taking an ill advised, early shot clock 3 that’s completely messing up the play called, throwing up 3 fingers to the crowd and yelling I’m fucking him, while completely losing track of your man on defense and your teammates are now in scramble mode to recover for your little parade down the sideline, busting their asses and possibly picking up a foul to stop a transition bucket, leading them to have to sit due to foul trouble, killing their rhythm, the coaches rotations, and the synergy between specific groups that are meant to share the floor during stretches of the game. That’s the Christian wood experience

-He’s really dumb. Horrendous bball IQ. Not really coachable. Can’t set a screen, commits untimely fouls, can’t play in a system, and won’t defend. His rebounding is ok, and he can score at a good level although it’s mostly ISO’s.

-as a rockets fan who watched him an unnecessary amount of minutes:

  • he’s a very gifted offensive player

  • as good as he is on offense, he’s almost as bad at defense

  • he will pout if his role doesn’t meet his needs expectation

  • he may legitimately be worse on defense as marvin bagley
the best way i can put it is, christian wood is an NBA player, but i don’t know what NBA team needs him

Now compare him to ANY big on our trailblazers.

he's a really tall player that can shoot the basketball. 2 things Portland will have issues playing defense against. A Lakers season sweep would be wonderous help for the Blazers next ping pong ball.

I think we will see a lot of posting about how good this loss or that loss will be for our lottery chances this season. Unfortunately this is supposed to be a horrible draft. Sigh….

I am not interested in tanking at all, two years is enough for me. It sucks that we lose our pick though if we did somehow sneak into the playoffs, because despite the lack of star power at the top of this next draft....there are always one-and-dones who will blossom 2-3 years from now that can be found.

If you don’t have much talent, i don’t think it’s called “tanking” anymore….. you’re just a bad team.

True, and any Miami players coming back will not move the needle this year. But there is a chance, albeit a very small one, that we get someone back who could help this young team be competitive for the 8th spot. For example, if we were able to trade Dame to Brooklyn that brought back a healthy Simmons......A starting frontcourt of Grant, Nurk, and Simmons is not bad at all to go with a backcourt of Ant, Sharpe, Scoot, and Thybulle. That team is not great but it is not bad.

Again the chances of that trade happening are not likely, but until we know for sure who we are getting back it is hard to say for sure they will be a lock to be in the lottery.....(cue the dumb and dumber quote )

do these guys check their speculation with any basic math?

if he's making 80M/year, that would mean his first year salary on his new deal would have to be around 71-72M. Doncic would be eligible for 35% of the salary cap his first year. 72M/.35 = 205M. That would have to be the salary cap, and Doncic could sign a new deal in 2026. 3 seasons from now. The current salary cap is 136M. That would need the cap would have to increase by 70M in 3 years. That's a 51% increase in 3 years and the new CBA has a smoothing provision....meaning that big spikes in the cap will be restricted. The 2026 cap might be 180M, but that assumes really consistent robust growth

I can maybe see 70M/year. 80M seems a little too pie-in-the-sky. Although, when I think about it...70M/year? yeeeeeesh!

If we're going to pay Jerami Grant 42 million in 2027, then 80 million for Luka sounds like a bargain.

A 5 year deal starting at 60M world be worth 79.2M in the 5th year. Perhaps he wasn't talking about AAV but peak value.
