Like every year, everyone is signing with the Lakers

Why do I have a feeling we're going to dance around Philly for a month and then settle on a CJ/Tobias swap?

This dude doesn't seem to be very plugged in. Not many breaking stories by him or tweets.

Free agency starts tomorrow 3pm Pacific time right? blazersedge just tweeted it starts at 9pm tonight.

they have gotten so bad

Right

Teams can start negotiating with players then. They can actually sign players starting Friday

Where does it say those guys are signing or even thinking about signing with Lakers?

The Lakers are targeting them, not necessarily the other way around

The Miami Heat are positioning themselves to become front-runners to land Kyle Lowry in a sign-and-trade agreement once discussions are permitted to begin with the opening of NBA free agency on Monday, sources told ESPN.

Lowry has long been intrigued with joining Heat star Jimmy Butler and the Miami organization, and now Miami has maneuvered to have two key elements of a possible sign-and-trade package -- guard Goran Dragic and forward Precious Achiuwa -- to offer the Raptors once talks can ensue at 6 p.m. ET on Monday, sources said.

While negotiations on sign-and-trade agreements aren't allowed to begin until free agency opens, teams are able to prepare for scenarios and those contingencies are beginning to take shape inside front offices ahead of Monday.

Lowry's free agency decision promises to have a domino effect throughout the league, where several free agent point guards are looking to line up with teams wanting new starters at that position.

The Heat picked up the option on Dragic's $19.4 million contract for the 2021-2022 season, making him an ideal contractual fit to include in talks to make a deal possible with the Raptors. A market exists for the Raptors to move Dragic, 35, onto a new team, including the Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans, sources said.

the Mavs and Pelicans moved so much salary to get caproom. I hope this doesn't push either to make a last ditch run at Norm.

tobias harris instead of cj mccollum sounds intriguing... it would balance the starting five and wed get much bigger body

i think i like that deal

Harris for CJ would be a big disappointment

I'd be disappointed with just a straight-up swap. Harris/Thybulle for CJ/DJJ might be a bit more palatable, and would (as was mentioned) balance the roster, but would basically leave us without any more tradeable assets.

Would still be a let-down from the Siakam hope, but at least it would be something.

I think Dallas has always been a big threat here, and I suspect they'd much rather have Powell than Hardaway, now that it looks like Lowry may be headed to Miami. Honestly with Doncic I've never understood why they'd want Lowry

not sure about the Pels though. They'd have to renounce the rights to Lonzo Ball in order to have the cap-room

seems like every year, lots of Blazer fans talk themselves into believing CJ has great value as a trade asset. I guess we don't know if it's true or not because Olshey has not been interested in shopping CJ (and may very well not be interested now)

but we did it again in thinking that CJ could fetch back a player like Simmons or Siakam. I suppose it could still happen but I'd put the odds in single digits. CJ for Harris is probably a lateral move on a generic level, but if it allows Powell to move into the starting SG role and has Harris & RoCo as the starting forwards, Portland has definitely upgraded their starting unit

I think Harris is a little better player than CJ, and a better fit. But, it still leaves Portland with the same problem: no elite player to pair with Dame and almost no financial flexibility to find one. Harris actually makes 4M more a year than CJ....yikes!

Harris for CJ wouldn't be championship changer, would he? So if we can not bring another sstar here this summer, I am kinda done with Blazers. I mean, it is just boring. I believe Dame will wait till February to see where we going, but I wouldn't blame him, if he wants to go out now.
I'm not sure what standing pat will do for Olshey. He could just force Dame to go and build around CJ.

I won't deny that this kind of fan mindset is a mystery to me. I mean, yes, I want the Blazers to win a title, but I think the only thing they could do to get me to unfollow the team would be if they dealt Dame for Westbrook, or something unfathomable like that. To simply say, "the roster just isn't good enough to be worthy of my attention" pretty much screams "fair-weather fan" to me, which is not really something I'd expect to find on this board.

To be clear, I'm not intending to impugn your fanhood directly...just letting you know how your post sounded to my ears.

Ugh!!! The idea of trading Dame away and trying to build around CJ is a nightmare. I just want to tear it down and bring in a new much younger core that Ant and Nas could be a part of.

I mean if it goes sideways with Dame. I think if Dame still wants to be here and Olshey trades him it will be a PR nightmare. You think players avoid signing here now?

The only thing that would get me be even "kinda done with the Blazers" is if they got moved and weren't the Blazers anymore. Would I like Westbrook being here? No but I'd still be a fan. So if @royo is saying that he would stop following the team out of frustration more power to (I'm assuming) him but for sure that makes him a fair weather fan and really not much of a Blazers fan at all.

Oh, well. I am a Blazer fan for 30 years now. Never switched for another team and never been fan of another sport. And I am not even from US. I know for sure, that I am not "fair weather" and I wish I was really, cos I've built emotional connection to this team and sometimes it is not fun at all. Times, when I go too emotional. Times, when I say fire Stotts for 5 years and I'm frustrated with him for 5 years and I don't even know this guy.

Is being "real fan" in this situation that much of a compliment? Being fan of this organization is like being fan of Olshey, kinda. Is being fan of CJ, who takes his wine much more seriously, than his defense, let alone fans.

On the top of that - from what I hear from him - Dame is "kinda bored" with this organization as well, so I guess, first time in my "fair weather fanhood" I will go with player, not with the team. If Blazers dont change, being a fan is like staying in toxic relationship for no reason.

Appreciate the response, and I get where you're coming from. Honestly, being a fan of a franchise often can be like a toxic relationship: you certainly care about them a whole lot more than they care about you.

Like I said, I really don't want to cast aspersions on your or anyone's fanhood. Personally, I can absolutely separate being a fan of the Blazers and being a fan of Olshey or CJ--since I want the Blazers to succeed, I want both of those two individuals to leave; those two concepts are completely reconcilable to me. But if Dame decided that he was done with the Blazers, I don't think I could follow him to that same conclusion.

Remember guys, no move means no team improvement and that means. Dame is gone

I don't think Philly bites without something nice, but I think Thybulle is worth two picks personally. I think this 8-man rotation could be a contender with the right MLE signing at 4/5. The big thing for me is Harris would offer some of the same things as CJ on offense (mid-range game) but we wouldn't be small anymore.

Lillard/Powell/Covington/Harris/Nurkic
Simons/Thybulle/Little/MLE
