How is taking way less money smart?

How many players are taking less than they could get? Many. Are all of them dumb? Well, you tell them that. I ain't.
You have to look beyond money. I know it's hard for a lot of people. Love is HATED by his team and fans. The media too. He is looking like a total joke. Do them a solid. Try to save your reputation. Try to contribute what you can to some team.

I could see this happening. Make a deal and go elsewhere. He has made plenty of money. He's made about 230 million so far.

Excited to see what Presti does with all those picks.
Well if he uses every pick, he might run into a good pick here or there, and have a decent team by the end of the decade. Of course he will have more picks cause Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will want to get the hell out of there before all those picks amount to a damn thing.

He already took them further than Olshey ever has for us. I think he will use his war chest of draft picks well.

And he better, with that baseball-esqe load of draft picks. What's the old saying about squirrels.

Exactly. He would get 10s of millions. It's a BUYOUT. What 75%???
He is owed like 60 million for the next two years. 75% means he would leave 15 million on the table. No way he gets an offer of that right now over the next two years.

Love is doing the right thing from a financial stance.

Yeah, he'd have to leave a lot more than that

Do we know he would have to take way less money? It seems that most players get at least 80% of what is owed when bought out.
20% is a lot! You’re talking about $10-20 million. That’s way less in my book.

Is that allowed? Isn’t there a salary floor?
They've got a bunch of their cap tied up in Kemba's contract buyout. Between him and a few other guys they have over 28M in dead cap but I think they're still ~10M under the floor.

Remember when LaMarcus left, what $18M on the table? And then signed for the minimum? And then had to retire? He just set $18M on fire and will never see that kind of money again. Maybe Love was paying attention.

Interest?

The Memphis Grizzlies have not asked Juancho Hernangomez to report or take a physical after his trade from the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Grizzlies similarly did not ask Rajon Rondo to report and he has subsequently been bought out.

Hernangomez has two seasons remaining on his deal at $12.8 million, but hte final season is not fully guaranteed.

Hernangomez averaged 7.2 points and 3.9 rebounds in 17.3 minutes over 52 games last season with the Wolves.

He's not a bum, but I'm not sure what he does well.

It just proves that Portland can’t compete with LA when it comes to player signings
On this we agree. They have a license to bitch slap the cap. Really, when you include cost of living in LA, players are paying to play for the Lakers when they sign for the minimum there.
