it's prolly easier to find guys who HAVEN'T flexed their muscle like this among the top 15 players.also, Melo in Denver; Deron Williams in Utah; I guess PG13 in Indiana, although he gave them plenty of warning

Giannis/Steph/Jokic/Dame/Tatum/Embiid stick out among guys who are past their rookie deals and still with their teams.
Great interview if you are a basketball nerd. A lot of it is relevant to us and how teams defend Dame.
The NBA had players like Kobe demand trades as well, and the Lakers got close to doing it with Chicago but insisted on both Ben Gordon & Luol Deng which Chicago wouldn't do. So the Lakers said no, Kobe you are staying a Laker.
Houston can hold firm like that if they want.
Houston has other problems that they did a stupid Russ trade, got rid of Capella then RoCo, did another stupid Russ trade, traded away tons of picks to avoid tax, distanced themselves from their talented GM to grab China $, and now can't assemble a winning team.
Plus all the rumors Harden and Westbrook hated Fertitta support of Donald Trump and want out. That's his decision for public support of Trump, which he enjoys benefits from and now can enjoy the costs.
I don't have sympathy for Houston, they can play hardball and make this uncomfortable which they decided to do weeks ago. Well now teams are hesitant to trade as we are at training camp so its their own choice it got to this point.
Either take what you get in a Harden trade or shut up. I don't want to hear about how its so unfair for Houston and players shouldn't have this power and this and that. Houston decided to back themselves in this corner, they get to live with it. Minnesota did as well. Its not some brand new player empowerment phenomenon.

Houston is under no obligation to trade Harden at all. Harden completely tanked his value by going public. He can hold out as long as he wants, but unless Houston gets the best possible deal, they are doing their franchise and fans a huge disservice by just trading him for garbage.
If Harden does come back at some point, it’s not like there are fans to boo him either. I don’t mind players using leverage, but Harden doesn’t have near as much leverage as he apparently thinks he does with two full years still guaranteed.
No, itd put us in the tax for no reason.Dallas will be releasing Barea. Any interest?
Cliffsnotes version please. I dont have 90minutes to watch that
Would it? They signed him but if they release him what happens money wise? No, itd put us in the tax for no reason.
If they could get him without going into the tax i would be all for it. But i just don't know how that 2.6 Million would work?Dallas will be releasing Barea. Any interest?
I hear that. I wasn't saying I was on board. Just thought I would pose the question. No, itd put us in the tax for no reason.

Money stays on the books.Would it? They signed him but if they release him what happens money wise?
Yeah for sure, just any talk about adding a player is moot because we dont want to go into the tax and were only $600K below.I hear that. I wasn't saying I was on board. Just thought I would pose the question.
Okay. Excuse my ignorance here because i truly have quit keeping up like i used to.Yeah for sure, just any talk about adding a player is moot because we dont want to go into the tax and were only $600K below.
A player in the buyout market wouldnt put us into the tax though. That'll be interesting.

... or just making draft evaluations in general.I see that Jacob Evans was just released (again) by a team.
Since I at one time believed he was a better pick than Gary Trent, this proves that sometimes Neil Olshey is smarter than me! (or at least his scouts are). Might also prove that it's difficult making evaluations by reading draft profiles on the internet!![]()

The minimum is $1.6M, and that date range is when the buyout market would likely take place anyway.that will depend of the player and the timing of the buyout, no?
I mean, a 600K margin margin below the tax line isn't much room at all.
unless of course, I'm not understanding the rules. As I understand it: the minimum salary this year is 1.7 million. The amount of the signing would be pro-rated by the percentage of the season left, in days. The season will be about 155 days long if my math is right (regular season = Dec 22 - May 16, assuming the play-in tournament doesn't count). So then, a minimum signing with 53 days left of the season would result in a 582K pro-rated salary. That would mean the Blazers couldn't sign a vet any earlier than March 24-26.
that should still leave 25-28 games in the season. That's a pretty substantial chunk of the season left. But, for any vets of value, the Blazers would be competing with teams that have exceptions left and can pay more than a pro-rated minimum. Hopefully, Portland will be in the thick of the HCA playoff hunt and can be an attractive destination as a short-time gig for a bought-out FA
Yep. Your calcs here are correct.that will depend of the player and the timing of the buyout, no?
