So...the Lakers need shooting and defense. so their answer is to sign Rozen, who isn't a shooter, soon to be 35 year old Rudy Gay who isn't a defender, and 37 year old Anthony who isn't a defender.

What could go wrong.

I have a very hard time believing DeRozan would sign for 6 million when he could get almost 30.

speculation and rumors. Teams can't show interest right now without tampering

If you're following Fischer, a lot of the stuff he's reported has come true in some way or fashion. Also reading his AMA on reddit was pretty helpful. I think you're naive to think teams aren't already talking to agents already. They can talk numbers, potential interest and other details without actually agreeing to a contract. It's not a secret that free agency has already started.

trades right?

I thought we were talking free agents. How many free agent predictions has he got right so far?

it may be that Powell will re-sign. I just think the notion that a low-level of chatter about Powell right now is any kind of gauge of his intent is premature

Fischer has been on point so far.

  • Oklahoma City, San Antonio, Toronto and New Orleans are known to be interested in unrestricted free-agent center Zach Collins, sources said.
I will be SO FUCKING PISSED if Zach gets well (well, not that part - keep reading) and becomes a solid starter for another team. But the precedents of Darius Miles, Brandon Roy and Greg Oden do not bode well for him.

I don't know. We will see next week won't we?

This is what Fischer says about his reporting process:

Usually I'll hear something from one team about two other teams discussing a trade, and from there, I'll reach out to other teams not involved, then agents of the players, and then bring all the information I can to the to teams that are actually involved, and hope they confirm all the intel. If they don't, I don't report. If they do, press publish.

If you don't expect team people and agents to lie every now and then, I think you're going about this naively. There's always a chance for misinformation, but that's why you spend years cultivating relationships, going to off-the-record dinners and drinks and spending time with people so you can develop that trust, and even learn to know when people aren't telling the truth.

So of course it's possible he hasn't heard anything on Powell, or has gotten misinformation from Powell. I'm just making an inference based on there's not enough chatter about interest in Norman Powell from other teams.

I get what your saying. I think if Zach was to bet on himself getting healthy, and being able to sign a lucrative contract later, he would stay in Portland on a 1 year minimum contract. I, like you, want him to get fully healthy. The potential is there. We saw the great defense vs. Jokic in that WCS. Allowed Kanter to dominate on the boards and not bother with the Joker.

Who else is joining the Lakers?

Crazy how many coattail riders there is in the NBA. I’d assume it would be much more gratifying winning a championship the natural way rather than joining some kind of super team. You’ll still make plenty of money in the league either way.

Plus unless you’re elite no one cares about your legacy of winning a ring or not. It’s not like people look back at some middle tier players legacy and say look he got a ring! On that loaded ring chasing team….

Just read there’s a good chance Lonzo Ball signs with the Bulls

If this is the direction the Lakers want to go, I'm all for it.

Basically bucking the current trend in the NBA of going smaller and quicker and putting an emphasis on shooting and drive and pitch to go big and iso-oriented. It's actually getting away from what worked for them the last couple of years on the defensive end. It looks like they're trying to build a 2010 all-star team. It could work ... if everything goes right ... but I wouldn't bet my paycheck on it.

It'll be interesting to see how that works, how all these guys who are used to pounding the air out of the basketball to get their rhythm mesh, how they guard the perimeter and transition and stay healthy, how they operate with their best perimeter shooter being their 6-11 PF-C. It's almost like they painted themselves into a corner. I might have been inclined to fill out the roster with young, spot-up shooters who'll exert their energy flying around on defense, but LeBron doesn't trust those guys, so this was the only other option, to put together the Over The Hill Gang.

if he's going to do that, why doesn't he forgo higher salary playing with his good friend Dame. The 6M tax-MLE is a decent chunk of change

yeah, that was rhetorical
This is how you do it. Get as much money in the beginning then sign for less money just to win a ring.

The Lakers are tripling down on the Lebron/AD era

yeah, there's probably 3 chances that adding Westbrook will fail for every chance it succeeds. But it's definitely a case that this is the best shot the Lakers have before the window closes. And it's pretty obvious they will be able to fill out their roster with ring-chasers

if somehow the Lebron-AD-Westbrook troika can develop some decent synergy, they are going to be a really tough out

They also have bird rights on Schroder... so if they can work a sign and trade sending him out I think they'd could get a piece that's a lot better than a ring chaser and probably provide some floor spacing they so desperately need.
