We can't even do that well - Morey is going to wait for the hubbub to die down and people will remember what Simmons CAN do as well as what he can't.
Well, I just want two-way players. So I don't want CJ or Simmons.

Even if he can't shoot.
I like the option of closing out games with him and 4 shooters. (Dame, Simons, NP, and Roco (Or Little or Collins if either can take a step forward next year)
Roco, Simmons, and the mythical healthy Collins would be a fun 3 big rotation.

Giannis is so much better than Ben Simmons that … I don’t even know where to begin. It’s not even a comparison really.

My eyeballs tell me different. Simmons is 24 and a 3-time all-star. Both are great on defense ((all NBA defensive team)) and neither is great in a half-court offense. I agree that Giannis is better but soooooo much better? I don't see it.

You have got to be kidding me.

Well it isn't like Giannis is dependable on offense in crunch time. But yes I do realize he is much more aggressive on offense and has better stats.

The thing I like about Simmons is that he understands his limitations. Giannis on the other hand has put up a couple hundred 3 pt shots each of the last 2 years. (At 30%.) Simmons was 3-10 this year (Also 30%) Giannis is often in the running for the league's MVP. I think Giannis is better but by how much? I am not seeing a huge difference between the two.

Blazer fans have been begging for a player like Simmons for a few years now.
a 6'11" player who can handle the ball like a good PG and defend every position? I am talking myself into loving the possibility. Even if he can't shoot.

I would add he is 24. He can work hard and improve his shot still.

When did this place become the Ben Simmons fan club?

the guy to compare Ben to is Draymond. Giannis is a guy you can run an offense through-- that's not Simmons, not now anyway.

Except that Green is a willing 3-pt shooter -- usually good enough to keep defenses honest, although that has slipped of late -- good at attacking the basket, and a solid FT shooter. Take away all of those elements (aka Simmons), and you're left with someone that defenses can sag way off, cutting off passing lanes.

You said earlier in the thread you've been enamored with a Dame-Simmons pairing since Ben was drafted. It seems to me you haven't let the reality of his limitations change your original thinking.

Giannis happily dunks at every opportunity. His outside game is Simmons-like, but 75% shooting on 20+ shots isn't exactly uncommon with him, so the effectiveness remains much higher. I'm not a huge Giannis fan, but it borders on a joke to compare his offense with Simmons'.

they're different players. this is an apples-oranges.

I was responding to the poster who commented that “he doesn’t see much difference between Giannis and Simmons.”
I wasn’t the one making the comparison because I think it is ludicrous lol
I agree that a more fair and similar comp would be Green… but even Green is a bit more offensively gifted than Simmons which says… something.
And I actually think you can run an offense through Simmons as he currently is. (As I mentioned the other day, I don’t think his “I will not attack the basket period” is a permanent thing. I think that is mental and can probably fix that. The shooting and free throws, not sold on fixing that.) but in order to run the offense thru him you have to use him like a baby Jokic, in my opinion. Or maybe not run the offense through him but let him dictate some stuff from the elbow - elbow extended area.

He was exposed because he’s not a real PG. Ben with Dame as the PG, totally different discussion.

You either get Ben and play him at C, or get Ben and play him at PF and find a C like Brook Lopez (or if Zach can come back and play).

The hardest thing to do would be to convince this guy to take a wide open 3. But otherwise, Ben with Dame/Norm/Covington/Zach is comparative to this current Bucks team. You have to at least give it a shot especially with his trade value so low. I personally don’t think we could ever get more assets ON TOP of Ben for CJ, but if other assets are offered, you have to so it. CJ/DJJ -> Ben/Curry, if that’s even remotely possible, do it.
I’m not sure Sixers would give us Curry for CJ straight up or salaries matched.

Damn, did not know that Simmons-Embiid-Harris salary combined is 100M.

2 things that this team was weak at defense and rebounding and those 2 things that Ben actually his strengths. If he use the right way you benefit his passing skills. He not the first player ever had mental block in the playoffs over my time in this game I seen a few. Everyone new when he got out college that he doesn't shoot over 16ft and still that player. Now would trade CJ for Ben I think I would that would be major players in the trade. When your best player and the coach throw under the bus you now have to trade Morey doesn't have any choice right now.
