He properly will not be in the rotation this coming season. Laymen drives hard going right and usually ends in a dunk. The problem I see when he is end traffic under the basket he not strong enough to finish. He not great passer so he can lead to turn overs. But he does got good stroke but he can be streaky at times. But being practicing ever day that can be clean up. He will get stronger like everyone does in the NBA and he will get better in the stuff he weak at hopefully. Does he make the 15 man roster yes he does.

No because I've seen Connaughton play.
I thought he showed some promise towards the end of the season when he saw floor time, he was moving well without the ball, was aggressive going to the basket, pulled the trigger on threes when he was open. He and Montero will be interesting to see in Summer League.

Montero could turn out to be decent player reminds me of Will Barton

The problem I've seen with Connaughton is lateral movement, or lack of. The bad shooting is whatever, could be a rhythm player, but I don't think he'll be able to stick with guards, and he's too small to defend small forwards. I remember him being compared to Wes but he's got to put on a serious amount of muscle/weight to be even in the same ballpark physically. I guess we'll find out, but I think Layman has a better chance.

Did you seriously scout Patty in the 2 or 3 mins of garbage time that he played in every week?

Watched him in summer league. That's where I soured on him. Don't need to see a guy 50 times to see he can't move laterally.

Progress marches on. Miniaturization continues unabated. Layman replaces Meyers Leonard.

he's a C, Layman is not a C - they should not be compared positionally or skill-wise.

Leonard should be a center, but unfortunately, he plays forward, the same position as Layman, who thus appears to be the next Leonard.

Was trolling the Maryland foruma this morning. Apparently Layman got the goods as "they say," good athleticism, decent defense and a nice 3 touch. He had the bad luck to play on a team with a bunch of ball hogs. That and he's not the most intense dude in the world. None of then could ever figure out why. Hopefully he eventually makes us evwntually forget Leonard.

Hmm, not intense, lazy as a Blazer, then becomes intense in Indiana and Charlotte as an NBA journeyman...

I compared Layman before to Jeff Withey, but now I'll compare him to another Blazer 2nd-round pick. (I didn't pick Josh McRoberts because he's white...Blazer 2nd-round picks are ALWAYS white.)

The arrogance of same fans is really funny to me. This is a player Olshey has evidently targeted for awhile, and he deserves the benefit of the doubt so let's wait until he puts on a jersey before coming to a conclusion yah?

I agree, give the benefit of the doubt. However, it too me 5 minutes of film to almost absolutely know that Diez wouldn't be in Portland anytime soon...if ever.

Yet he looked like a completely different player late in the season. It surprised me.

Can we all pitch in to buy him a plane ticket back out of portland?

I want him to develop a good one-dribble step-back so we can call him Jake'n'Bake. Or an up'n'under in the post would fit the bill, too.
Or....El Diablo. Fighting Chicken.
Magic Man. Abracadabra, Holmes!
