BlazerSurprise YouTube guys have a great conspiracy theory idea...

Blazers have a pending trade with the Lakers for Grant.

All parties have agreed the Blazers will get a bit more value by doing a buyout with Ayton and Ayton will sign for cheap with the Lakers.
They are just fans, like the rest of us

If true this sounds like something the league would investigate and strip a pick from us for doing lol.

If anyone found out there was an agreement like that wouldn't we be punished? Sounds stupid.

I was just thinking this myself. Just finished in the Ayton trade thread and then see this post. has to be true!

Maybe LeBron will resign for less if needed so they have some room under the apron?

I have zero concern about holding out for a pick with Grant - if we can just dump his contract that is fine with me. If we can add a Knecht type of youngish player even better.

knecht for grant and lakers consolidate some of their players makes a degree of sense, IMO.

I don't love vanderbilt but his deal is a lot more manageable than grant. you could waive one of the players coming in as well.

They would have to send 4 players to match his contract if they don’t want to send Rui.

Watching the Blazers podcast made for simpletons? We are desperate for any content at this point :biglaugh:

Aw nobody is gonna take him at this point. Figure out a way to win with him the best thing to do.

I could definitely see the Lakers and us being good with this deal with us likely waiving Kleber and Vincnent. It makes it likely that we don't keep Duop because with Yang, this puts us at 16 players on the roster. It allows the Lakers to sign min players and maybe make other trades without worrying about the aprons, hell maybe they'll want us to include Duop. We get off of Jerami's contract and I think we end up with two good bench players, who may or may not be in the rotation.

I don't think there's any chance at all that the DA move was a wink wink portion of a Grant trade. Would love to be wrong.

Yeah I like this deal but some people think that the Lakers wouldn't want to trigger a hard cap at the first apron, so they'd need to be sending out more salary than they're bringing in. That's why I think it's this (with us waiving Vincent and Kleber):

So since were taking on $727k in this deal it still wouldn't trigger their hard cap? I like getting out of Murray deal - this also only costs us one roster spot to hold onto Vincent/Kleber. I'd keep them for possible deadline deal or bench depth.

I'm not sure Knecht fits with us trying to prioritize defense at all positions. Not sure if the Bulls would have interest but I like someone elses idea of them giving us our pick back instead.

Vanderbilt has a negative contract going into next season. Ideally we get a swap or Knecht or something for taking that on. Ultimately I'd probably pull the trigger even without that just to get off Grants deal but I'd try to see if we can do better.

This kind of assumes the Lakers don't want to give up Rui. If they will give him up maybe a deal like this can be done instead;

Correct, this would not trigger hard cap for Lakers, since they take in less.

Sometimes you need shooters. I'm fine with taking him just to have a shooter off the bench.

1. Having Chicago brought in to a Lakers trade where they get Knecht and Portland gets their pick back? That would be good.
2. Prior to Holiday, my 'wish' was to get Reaves from the Lakers by sending Ayton and Grant for their expiring contracts + Austin Reaves. AR is just a friggin' useful player.
3. Now? I'd rather wait on trading Holiday until a Deni Trade 2.0 becomes available. Holiday will keep make Sharpe and Scoot have to earn their dinner.

maybe the wink-nod-wink deal(s) between the Lakers and the Blazers include a S&T with DFS? Like a 1 year deal for 21-22M; or two years at that rate. Then a DFS+Kleber/Vincent+Knecht for Grant+Rupert/Reath trade. Lakers don't gut their depth and create enough margin to sign Ayton. Blazers get a serviceable wing who plays defense and shoots the three well while taking flyers on Kleber and Knecht

not sure how the league office would react

I'm assuming the Blazers and Lakers management never wrote or typed anything about it. See the reports of Ayton agent contacting the Blazers about the buyout. As long as teams didn't make any direct agreements it's probably fine for agents and players to say whatever they intend to do.

The official response from teams would of course just be that they wanted to do this one trade on its own. The Ayton buyout was a coincidence and unrelated. Can't be proven wrong unless there is documented Blazers Lakers conflicting evidence.
