The thing with the Rangers is that they're at the point where anything except a cup win is a major disappointment. Another finals loss wouldn't of been any better.

Cup or bust. That was the way it was this season, and the way it will be the next 3 or 4 seasons also. This is a 100% all in win now team. Every move we make has to be geared towards that within reason. Hank is 34 next season...clock is ticking as the East gets better around us.

How about trading Girardi or Stall? Doesn't really matter who? Either one would do. If Sjeci is so good, then let him play top 4 D position and keep Boyle for one more season. Also, I think Stepan should be traded to for a true 1st line center. Brassard is a perfect second line center but Stepan is not first line center. I agree on Hags. If he wants 4M then trade his ass out of here. I don't care if they trade entire team away at this point. It is not working. This group will not win the cup.

Now I see it has nothing to do with Strallman, Caly or B.Boyle. The result would have been the same.

These are my keepers: Girardi or Stall, McD, Klien, Yandle, Boyle (maybe). I really don't care if he stays or goes. He is not the problem nor a solution. From forwards CK, Fast, Brassard, Zuk, Hayes,Moore,JT and Lundqvist. Everyone else should be traded.

The team is going to keep the D the same probably... I think they sign Williams for 4 years. Guy is clutch as hell and that's what they are missing... But he's 34 at seasons start. Ideally you only want him 2-3 years..Maybe he sparks Nash?

If this team is interested in trading for a true number 1 center, i would look at san jose and see if a stepan and hags for Pavelski could be had. theres alot to be pondered this offseason. I only hope scott arniel is fired, the man is not a power play specialist coach. They should try to get adam oats, man he is a pp genius.

SaveLundy... I totally agree with you. PP is the reason we lost. PP let us down and that was the reason why we lost in the end. Tampa is not a team that come from behind and win. I don't think Tampa handles momentum swings very well. There has to be major changes this year, or result is going to be the same. I think a lot of the guys we have are overated. I like Pavelski deal. We should try that. Stepan and Hags for Pavelski type deal.

Chuck, now as I have calmed down a little bit after last night and it slowly sinks in, let me just say this.

Stall was awful in the later stages of the playoffs. Maybe he is hurt. Girardi wasn't great, maybe he is hurt as well. We know McD is hurt because of that Stamkos hit. Maybe some got hurt during Caps series. We don't know. If that is the case there have to be a couple of bruisers on this team going forward. Lucic type. One on D and another F, who will protect the rest and protect Lundqvist and Lundy got abused in the first two series. That is not going to change and result will be the same. Stall, Giraradi, McD. Someone will be hurt by the third round. What is the point "great" Ds if one of them or two are hurt. None. Use that money to get a couple of thugs who can play hockey.

Stepan is not a 1st line center. Yes he is good and important to this team but he is not a 1st line center, niether is Brassard. Both are solid 2nd line centers. We need to get that 1st line center who is not 100 years old. If we have to part with Hayes, then so be it, but we cannot keep 2nd line centers and a kid on a third line if we want to win next season.

Glass killed 4th line all season long and that is on AV 100%. He NEEDS TO GO. Trade his ass out of here so that AV does not have access to him. Hags is fine and I like him very much but it won't work with if he wants 4M. The reason why I said to trade guys is because that is what will take to get 1st line C and a couple of tough guys who can perform in the playoffs and protect the team. We need to get tougher ASAP.

I think this is a great group of guys, I really do. But nice guys don't win the Cup. I am done with my attachment to players with one exception Lundqvist. If you don't want to be here and you want pay day, please just go to another team. This playoffs changed me. I want to see the CUP and I think everyone should be on short leash including AV. i have said for years that neither Stepan or Brass are 1st line centers and that we need one badly, so i agree. Problem is, how many #1 centers are available?

Nash's gender transformation during the playoffs has been a big problem for us, because to win a Cup you need your best player to be your best player, and Nash has not been that and puts that much more pressure on our secondary players to perform.

I know the Ducks just got eliminated but Ryan Kesler made a huge difference on that team and i think he would have made a huge difference on the Rangers. These are the type of players than when available i wish Sather would go for.

Yeah, there are not many 1st line Cs available, I agree. And I really it is hard to win without one. That is first need that we have. Sign Stepan and trade him along with someone else if at all possible

Bottom line is despite chucks and studs comments until AV wakes up and has big mac up here crap like stamkos pulled all playoffs blasting Mcd twice from behind into boards probably breaking his foot in the process and guys running henrik at will aren't going to stop. Big mac after the first Mcd hit would have broken stamkos face and anyone else on the lightning that came to his aid and the shit would have stopped. And stop already that the kid can't skate. Mac was top 2 d-man all season down below excelling on pk and playing every other shift at end of games to protect leads. He is not kreider on skates.(who the hell is) But the kid is a more than adequate skater who is a punishing hitter, wins the one on one puck battles on the boards, a crease clearer and someone no one on the other team wants to be near when he is on the ice. I see all these other teams with lurches on D with no problem and this kid as he did in the ahl this year will adapt and get better as he gains experience. Our defense is supposed to be this mobile, fast crew. Staal, girardi, boyle mobile and fast. Give me a friggin break already. Our toughness on D needs to be up here this fall. Sather needs to tell AV work with the kid, develop him further, whatever you want but the kid is coming up here and also needs to trade or waive glass so av can't use him anymore. Lindberg is a 100 times better. Chuck, I don't want to see msl here if he agrees to play for a dollar. Was great for a long time but too small and completely sucks now. Hags needs to go also via trade as we need more size and to have money for kreids and hayes coming up which is another reason why boyle has to go.

Spot on Mel. The question I would ask to the McIlrath can't skate crowd is aside from McDonough who else on the Rangers defensive unit can use their speed to carry the puck coast to coast and set up an offensive chance? AV's system emphasizes moving the puck quickly out of the defensive zone via the pass so I'm not sure where McIlrath's skating speed is even relevant. When McIlrath's on the ice he doesn't even have to throw a check to be a deterrent, opponents always have to be looking for him out of the corner of their eye. AV had a chance early in the season to call up McIlrath or Allen when the Rangers went down 3 dmen but instead chose to use Hunwick, Kostka & Moore, I think that was a boneheaded move and a golden opportunity missed. AV has had some of the greatest talent in the NHL while coaching in Vancouver and now here in NY but hasn't gotten it done, Cup or bust right?

Staal had a broken ankle. McDonough had a broken foot. St. Louis turned 50 overnight. Nash played like a woman in 2/3 of his playoff games. The team was 1 period away from the Finals. AV did fine.

I guess you missed the Yandle trade Panzer? He can carry the puck end to end alot better than RMc can, it's his bread and butter along with his passing. That's why they got him.
Eric Staal will be a FA in 2016 Strud, i'm not talking about having him this year.

AV has been here two years and made the SCF and ECF. The fact that we are discussing him AT ALL is a joke...period end of story.

Staal was terrible in the playoffs, I will not agrue that. Girardi was very good in the playoffs, so 2009 needs to open his eyes on that one. BUT the biggest point is D was not the issue. We lost game 5 and game 7 in our building 2-0 each time. What that means is we scored ZERO goals.

Anyone go look at the forward stats in the playoffs? Hags 2 goals (zero after round 1), Moore 1 goal, MSL 1 goal, Hayes 2 goals, Miller 1 goal, Fast 3 goals (2 in one game).

Yandle was our # 4 playoff scorer. Boyle was our # 5 playoff scorer. But YES let's get on the D. Let's talk about how we need to get rid of Boyle and bring in a slow, plodding, non NHL level skater...that's our answer to solve our OFFENSIVE issues, because that was the issue NOT THE D.

Again, I KNOW we LOVE to complicate things as fans, but it is very clear what we need. We need a top 9 righty winger that can score some goals, has some grit, and adds some firery leadership. That is what we need. Get rid of Hags or MSL to get that guy and we are fine. That is THE need. To me the rest of it is nonsense.

The kids will grow and improve (CK/JT/KH). The D I am confident will be good again next season, Yandle for a full season, McD hopefully fully healthy ready to take that next stride. You want to dump Boyle and go with a kid, I am okay with that, as I have been saying go or stay doesn't matter to me with Boyle.

Would I be perfectly fine if we could dump Glass and instead have Sheppard on the 4th line...HELL YES I hate Glass. I would love a 4th line mix of Fast/Lindberg/Moore/Sheppard. That would be ideal to me. But if Glass is here so be it, I cannot flip out about it, but if he plays like he did in the regular season AV better bench his ass. He was much better in the playoffs, despite the fact he cannot score at all he didn't kill us that much.

To me this is a tweak off season. Hags or MSL need to be gone for the righty shot I mentioned. Maybe you get rid of Boyle, I could go either way. Talbot will be dealt. I would LOVE to find a way to rid ourselves of Glass, I would resign Shepp if we can get rid of Glass. So not major stuff.

And one other thing on McIlrath. If the kid improves his skating this summer I have zero issue with him being in the 7th dman mix next season. Whether Boyle is # 6, or we get rid of Boyle and bring in someone else to be the 6th dman. Let McIlrath and/or Skjei be in that mix. I just don't think the Rangers will simpy make those guys the 6th dman though considering they haven't proven anything yet. On a win now team I doubt that is the road they choose, but maybe those guys look great this summer and they look to make one the 6th dman...doubt it, but we'll see. But I have zero issue having those guys as the 7th dman.

Let's look at the C spot for a minute.

1. How many guys are out there that you would consider true # 1 C's?
2. How many teams have a better 1-3 C punch than us with Brass (60 points), Step (55 points in 68 games whch is 65 points in 80 games pace wise), Hayes (45 points as a rookie).

So respectfully I don't agree with you guys on the C spot. In today's NHL having two 60 point C's (or very close to 60 point C's) and another guy who can get 45 + points is darn deep down the middle. How many teams you think are better and deeper down the middle? And Hayes could very well hit 50 next season and will only get better IMO.

Cindy, Malkin, Taveras, Toews, Seguin, Stamkos, Getzlaf and maybe a few others. You aren't getting any of these guys. Aren't getting Backstrom, who did nothing against us. Aren't getting Giroux, who is a PP specialist. How many of these guys are still playing? How many made the CF's? How many have won cups? Cindy and Malkin have one together, 6 years ago and haven't sniffed playoff success since. Getzlaf's teams struggle in the playoffs almost yearly, and he won a cup as a young guy 8 years ago. So not many cups there outside of Toews of course.

People mention Kesler, well he had 47 points this season, yes as many as our 3rd line C. Not saying I wouldn't want him here, 13 points in the playoffs, just saying let's not act like he is some stud much better than our guys.

SJ...Thornton had 65 points and is 36 in a month. Couture and Pavelski sure, but you aren't getting those guys.

Point is in today's NHL 60 points (or close to it) is a solid. Not many teams have a better C grouping than us. Having two guys like Brass and Step lead the way at C is solid and puts us in a good spot C wise. Then coming back with Hayes as the # 3 puts us in a really good spot IMO.

So unless you are going to deal for one of the top 8-10 stud C's I am not sure how much better we can do at C. I will take our trio over most teams in the NHL. Now you want to tell me Hayes goes backwards next season and doesn't get to the 50 point +/- range he was pretty much in this season as a rookie, okay maybe a different story, but right now I will take our C trio over most NHL teams.
