I think either Pau or Frye make a ton of sense. Frye will probably be declined his option by the suns (they need to spend a lot of $ re-upping other guys and may make a run at Love)

We could absorb Frye and he'd fit into the everyone's contract expiring after next season thing.

Maybe something like Frye to us, Victor and two of the suns picks in this draft to Minnesota, and a S&T Love to Phoenix? Love, Morris, Bledsoe, and Dragic is a pretty damn nice core. If Len panned out they could be set.

I actually agree with RoyToy, wouldn't be surprised to see Patty revert back to his true self.

Fans on this board just plain missed with their evaluation of Mills when he was here. IMO and I stated it often. Mills was the teams 2nd best shooter off the dribble behind Roy. As I recall his PER was poor........but his jumper was sweet. We should have kept him.

Frye would be nice but not a priority IMO. We need a another PG. If we go big then it needs to be real big or a really quick leaper. not a stretch 4.

Why would you want a really quick leaper next to Robinson? Channing's man defense on 5's is pretty good actually, and he boxes out well. He would fit very well next to Aldridge for spurts (Aldridge works the post) and perfect fit with Robinson, who has plenty of room to work inside, can pursue offensive rebounds (while Frye on perimeter setting screens), etc.

If we want to develop Robinson, Frye would be great.

Completely agree on a b/u PG for Lillard though! (to also play with)

I feel like something like this works for everyone (if Minnesota knows they're losing Love)

We'd still have the full MLE to use on a PG, maybe Vasquez? Doubt Bradley is going anywhere he won't start, although I'd love to have him here.

Other interesting unrestricted free agents that might be in our price range:e Lowery, Gortat, Bradley, Ridnour, Morrow, Sefolosha, Jordan Hill, McRoberts, Hawes, Turner

I like Jordan Hill and he realistically is in our price range, he is a PF/C so that fits two needs and last yr registered 9.7 pts and 7.4 rebs in 20.8 minutes, he's 26 and IMO would be a nice fit

What people tend to miss on is that young players, the role players, not superstars, need time. You can't expect every young draft pick to immediately be a good role player for you, and you can't act like we missed out when a young guy from our team succeeded at his next stop. It's situational, but a lot of it is just experience.

I think going into this offseason, if I'm Olshey, I look to poach a few guys like that from rosters who haven't yet turned that corner, but are right on the verge of it. Like LOpez did for us this year. Someone mentioned Jordan Hill, you look at how he was kind of a disappointment early on, part is new situation, but a lot more, IMO, is just gaining that experience in the league, that 25-26 year old range where things start to slow down for a lot of guys.

I'll add to my previous comment, just spit balling of random guys that could potentially turn a corner, and find a role, and likely for cheap:

I think a guy like Xavier Henry is someone that can come in and be a decent scoring option off the bench.
Kevin Seraphin I think could take a small leap into a solid backup PF/C.
I think Cole Aldrich could be a backup C in a Freeland ish sort of mold, but better shot blocker.

Are any of them better than what we have? Probably not. But iwe were to package a few bench guys' salaries to work something out this offseason, I'd look to fill in the roster spots with guys like this potentially.

Nick Young? My assumption is he stays in LA. He likes that scene too much to come here. And I can't stand looking at the guy, would hate to root for him.

He 100% could not have been this successful with us. That's mostly on Pop. He was awful with us, nobody missed anything.

It's not even developing talent - it's just putting players in a great position to succeed. Once those players leave his system, they fall right back into obscurity (see: Gary Neal, among others).

I think he's got a good eye for people willing to sacrifice to fit his system, but I don't know if he's any better at developing talent than most coaches. He just finds role players who can fit alongside 3 really good players. It's easier to make someone like a Mario Chalmers or Norris Cole look good when they get to play alongside Lebron, Wade and Bosh. Likewise, of course Neal is going to get better looks oN SA than he is on Milwaukee.

I think people focus on a few of the successes or mild successes and ignore the plethora of guys who have gone through there that didn't really develop because they weren't a good fit for him. Would we think that Nate was a good developer of talent because someone like Outlaw had his best years here, or just that he found a guy who fit a role, and others tried to do something differently with them.

I'm sure there's many guys you can go back through with them, who they signed, drafted, or traded for who they thought would be at the least a role player for them who were basically failures there.

Gary Neal was every bot as good in Charlotte as he was in SA. Pop found a really old rookie(26) who was able to come in and play right away for him and do ok. In much the same way we had Ime Udoka come in and start for us and have his best season ever, better than when he left us and went to Pop.

Observations from postseason about our bench:

Mo Williams: gets his own shot, scores easy baskets, good ball-handler, I hope he chooses to stay here (opt or no opt).

Thomas Robinson: Really starting to get "it". Starts with rebounding the hustle. Active player. Strong around the hoop. Becoming a solid backup. Keeper!

Will Barton: Really brings his own brand of scrappy, awkward, but-fast-paced bball. Gets his points, shooting well, scoring well, rebounding well for guard. Deserves more PT. Keeper! Re-sign him please!

Dorell Wright: Very average player. Does some things well and others not so well. No opinion on whether he should be brought back or not. I would include him in trades if available for upgrade.

Earl Watson: Vet backup PG who doesn't get rattled. Doesn't bring much at the point either. Still pretty good at harassing opponent. Still valuable, cheap, 3rd PG IMO. Keeper.

CJ McCollum: Has ability. Needs more confidence and more work on outside shot. But gets his own shot. Too soon to give up on unless included in no-brainer trade.

Joel Freeland: Might be expendable due to improvement by TRob. Not getting any PT versus Spurs. Regular season was a solid backup.

Myers Leonard: Too soon to give up on unless included in a no-brainer trade.

Allan Crabbe: I hear good things but don't see them on the court. No opinion on whether he should be brought back or not.

Victor Claver: I think I've seen enough. Just doesn't have NBA game. Practice player. Doesn't hurt the team when on the court, but can't shoot free throws or open shots. I would include him in trades if available for upgrade.


Sooo, accordingly, we need to get a better wing or two this offseason. CJ MIles anyone? And there is room to sign a better bench big-man too. Biggest need IMO is another baller who can get his own shot (maybe Livingston, I.Thomas, Blatche, Nick Young, Stuckey?).

We don't have any draft picks, NOR do we have any capspace. We have the MLE (~$6M) and BAE ($2M) only. Hopefully, we keep MoWill and resign him to BAE if he opts out.
