Neil Olshey on offseason focus:

Blow it all up and trade Aldridge for draft picks . . . got to hit bottom before you get to the top.![]()
That's exactly what 3 of the 4 teams left playing did
Which ones?
Miami, SA and Sea/OKC
Portland all but did too. They had 3 lottery picks in the last 2 years, but only produced 1 good player from it. A very good one, but still 1
Agree on Okc, but when did san Antonio blow it up? They had drob get injured for a year and lucked into Duncan.
Miami started out with wade and already had superfriends on the way so I don't necessarily think they blowed it up.
Some people see connections where none exist.
are we already back to blowing up the team and tanking again?

And some refuse to see them when they are right in front of them
Seattle was a 35 win team, then a 31 win team. After winning 31 games, they got a stud in the draft, and that same offseason traded away a 32 year old Ray Allen. That's not the same at all. They were already AT the bottom. OKC isn't similar at all.
San Antonio had one year of injury to Robinson. They didn't trade away Robinson to get Duncan.
Miami was already a crap team that traded away a 31 year old Eddie Jones and continued there already shitty season in order to be able to land Wade.
None of the remaining 4 teams blew up their 2nd round playoff teams by trading away a 28 year old All Star in his prime to "hit rock bottom". But if it makes you feel better to believe that's "the only way" then keep on keeping on.
I don't think his premise has ever been predicated on how teams got bad before they became contenders, but simply that most do. The main thing, it seems, is to get a superstar player. If Dame is that, then we should already be on the road to contendersville.
That's fair. Then, we already did that by dismantling our team, trading away Wallace and Camby, and in that offseason having Felton and Crawford leave. Got rid of our starting C, SF, PG, and 6th man off of our roster, added 2 lotto picks that year, and 2 more the following year. That's how it's done, right?

Didn't OKC suck their first year with Durant? Well, the first real year at OKC. I thought they did, but I could be wrong.
I think he's been brought up in other threads, maybe even this one? Not really wanting to go back and look, but I wonder about Thaddeus Young's availability from Philly. They suck, aren't trying, and he's being paid 10 million for it, roughly. They might like the idea of clearing his 10 million off of 2015 cap to try to entice a star or two to join Noel, MCW, and their two recent lotto picks from this season.
Crabbe, Leonard and Wright gives them expiring deals, and cheap very young potential in Crabbe and Leonard.
Unless there's a big deal to be made, and I doubt there is, I want our 5 starters intact. Young could be our 6th man scorer off the bench. Could very easily play alongside Aldridge, Rolo, or Robinson in many lineups. I think we could have a decent bench, depending on their improvements, if it's CJ/Will/Young/Robinson/Freeland in some capacity. With 3 spots potentially filled with a more vetern PG, 2/3 and C.
They actually list Thad as a power forward. I think he would end up stunting the development of Robinson, so you either trade TRob in the deal or you move him for something else, but I don't think they could co-exist.
I'm also not sure he would be happy coming off the bench.
I very much disagree with this. He's definitely a 3/4 tweener, and I absolutely think he and TDevil (I'm going to keep pushing that until it catches!) could play together. I think they'd be very interesting/effective as a 4/5 combo in a small lineup, especially if Young still has his athleticism.
This, however, I think is pretty likely.
He's only 25. Do you think he would have lost his athleticism?
I loathe Kevin Martin, but he would improve our bench scoring. Still need a PG on the bench, though. If Minnesota ends up moving on from Love, I wonder which direction they go with their roster. If they go primarily a rebuildng package, would be interesting to see if there was something to poach off of their roster. I know we need better defense, and so doesn't help in that regards, but could potentially get Kevin Martin for cheap, who'd be a great 6th man for us.
