Its got to be a fraternity of idiots & the only members are pitchers. The KC pitcher is another in a long line of clowns that can't find the middle of his head. Yes boys & girls I'm referring to yet another member of the askewed hat club.

I know I must sound like a broken record at this point but its a pet peeve & I just don't get it.

Just a style thing, same with the jersey half unbuttoned/ baggy pants look that manny pioneered. And at least half the players have mohawks now.

...^^^I'm not crazy about how some show their sense of "style" nowadays, but yeah, I think it's typical for one generation to see another generation that way.

...back in the day, I know my parents and their peers could understand why we did the things we did, and why wanted to grow our hair long. But again, I think every generation looks at the other with contempt, only because it is different than their own...always been that way and probably always will be.

Maybe its from being a veteran or just being old school but I think a uniform should be worn with pride. JMO.

...my feelings as well. And I'm not sure why many clubs are so loose with a dress code...yeah, players should be able to express themselves to a degree but I think management should draw the line somewhere.

Showalter had problems with dress codes and such - remember that incident with Griffey jr?
Buck objected to him wearing his hat backwards during BP or something?

I agree players should wear their uniforms neatly and in "order".
However, I don't mind players showing some intensity and fire during the game...a little fist pumping after a big hit..some hand clapping...there does seem to be something lacking with the Yankee team...we see more and more opposing players displaying exuberance and intensity during games (primarily in the dugout and standing on the bases AFTER clutch hits and big RBI while the Yankee players - with the exceptions of Gardner and Cervelli - are just a little too "business-like" to suit me. I'm am not enamored with this conservative buttoned down attitude - who the hell do they think they are? The 1998 Yankees? lol

Act like you LOVE it without rubbing it in the opposition's noses...there is a middle ground - the opposition is well aware and expects some excitement from you and your team after a BIG (2 out) HIT ect.. We'll see more and more of it as more players from "now" arrive.

As far as the play on the field I have no problem with showing a little fist pumping excitment but I draw the line with the "Is that all you got" bat flip on home runs or the long ball admiration of standing at home plate & watching your HR go out. Sorry but to me you're showing up the pitcher by doing that. And then when you throw in the slow trot around the bases you're just asking for trouble your next time up. Just show some professionalism & act like you've been there before.

Agree- that's why I included:

Plain and simple - These Yanks individually, just don't show ENOUGH fist pumping (excitement).

Gardner and Cervelli and to a lesser degree Ellsbury clearly show more intensity and JOY than the rest.
Not all players are into showing emotion..I understand that, but the Yankees seem to encourage having a reserved, conservative style.
Hard to do both - difficult to play with hunger and fire while acting like a corporate lawyer.

I know - Bear Bryant? Act like you've been there before and intend on being there again? lol

If you watch and LISTEN during "today's" NFL games...you're constantly hearing guys screaming and yelling like "tarzan" after big hits, tackles, sacks...talking to each other....not to mention touchdown celebrations.
NBA ? fuggeddaboudit

lol

I think nowadays, today's world, younger players are a product of today's society and pop culture.
It's the norm to be out there and "express yourself"...sort of.
Sort of....almost anything goes and everyone knows AND accepts it as long as it doesn't insult any particular "group".

I hear what you're saying about humility, but times change - I know you're aware of it.

What do you think Bear Bryant would say or think if he was somehow brought back today and stood on the sidelines watching a NFL game? Know what I mean? lol

While I think they take it too far sometimes the NFL has it right in terms of player appearance.

...what's the old saying?..."Act like you've been there before".

Yes indeed, act like you've been there before. On Barry Sanders - "A Football Life", several people comment on why or how Barry never so much spiked a ball, only tossing the pigskin back to the Referee. As said- Barry had no need to show off, as he had been in the end zone before....

On the crooked hats, like Fernando Rodney, Pineda, both have crooked heads, with one ear being 3 inches lower than the other....

...Yeah, after Cliff Branch spiked the ball at the DB's feet after scoring a TD, I remember John Madden telling Cliff Branch, who was a rookie at the time, "Cliff, don't do that...you're a little guy and you won't last long in this league by showing up a guy who's a lot bigger than you and can easily end your career if you piss him off".
...Madden said after that admonishment, Cliff never, ever spiked the ball again...after scoring a TD he'd simply walk over to the Ref and politely hand him the ball.

Sometimes it does take some discipline to politely hand the ball to the ref after scoring a touchdown. It's easy for "us" or John Madden (or any coach standing across the field) but "we" aren't the ones hearing the trash talk and taking the hits.

I don't mind seeing a player, especially from a fast paced physical sport (NFL,NHL) putting an exclamation point after scoring a significant TD or goal.

Matter of fact, I find it to be unusual and a bit abnormal (lol) to calmly walk away after the heat of the battle/moment and effort it took to score the TD. Casually walking away could also be a form of arrogance...some opposing players can get more angry watching a guy doing the ho-hum aw shucks routine....
..."so, you think this is easy"?, "we'll see about THAT"

Not saying you have to go over the top and point into opposing player's faces or anything...or celebrate when your team is getting blown out....but my opinion,
...I don't mind a little old fashioned "hooraahh" .
This is sports, not a dual to the death at high noon. lol

...^^^ I get your drift.

...the problem I have with much of the celebrations in sports is that it seems to be more of a "hey, look at me" mentality.

...this seems even more radical in football. I mean I'm just tired of RBs and/or receivers strutting/talking smack, etc after making a play or scoring a touchdown...it's as his other TEAMmates didn't have a hand in blocking or passing the ball.

...also grown tired of athletes acting like punks after scoring or hitting a HR or whatever, doing the "angry young man" thing and acting like they're a f'ing gangstah or something... and also, what's with the screaming with their mouth wide open...what exactly are they screaming about?

...OK, I'm through venting now...wait, who am I kidding?

I and many others in my generation, were taught to not taunt the other team. Let our offense and defense do all the talking. otherwise gloating can be a factor, unseen to charge up the competition.

Let's shift back to MLB. Carlos Gonzalez of the Rockies, played here in Lancaster, in the CA. Lg. for the JetHwaks.

Back then in A+ ball, Car-Go would round the bases in slo-mo, after he hit a HR. As he took off from homeplate to take his HR trot, Car-go went and still goes to far, by Holding his one arm up over his head, like a prize fighter would after announcing the match score.

Even in Minor Lgs. the hometown fans would boo Car-Go for his disrespectful Flag flying hight. Uncalled for....next at bat, would be a fastball to the rib cage, see if he could ever hold that flag up again. It's IMO, just unsportsmanlike conduct....

"Act like you've been here before".....

when the niners had randy moss at the end of his career, he caught a touchdown and his celebration was pointing to his own name on the back of his jersey...

always thought that was utterly classless, football is the epitome of a team sport

...yup, I never cared for the antics of Moss, Chad Johnson, Terrell Owens and those who behave like them...the tight end from the Saints, whose name escapes me right now, is another.

I was watching the Jet game yesterday (I know.....why?) anyway the Jets were down about 20 late in the 4th & the Bills QB was sacked & the defensive player ran around screaming like he just scored the winning touchdown. And all I could think was "Holy shit, you guys are getting your asses kicked & you're celebrating a sack with 2-3 minutes left in the game". He looked like a fool.

...lol...yeah I've seen that sort of thing before. The guy's team was down like 4 TDs in the 4th quarter and he sacked the opposing team's QB and jumped up and starting doing the "hey look at me" celebration...then the QB got up and grabbed the guy by the jersey and pointed to the scoreboard...funny stuff.

I swear I just don't get what these clowns are thinking.
