OKC matches on Kanter

Depends, IMO. Were they saying, "Your wrong, they won't match," or was it more, "Nothing's guaranteed; there's always a chance"? If it was the former, gloat away; if the latter, then it's pretty weak.

No point in re-hashing. But was staunchly of the former from the time we signed him to an offer sheet.

frankly that is what next season is about and why we added harkless, maybe one of these young guys pans out with minutes

The trade for Harkless is solid, but disappoints me that I'd think it'd say we aren't pursuing McDaniels (that and dealing with RFA's is a pain in the rear). But, we are in asset-acquisition mode.

still not to late to put a bid in on McDaniels

I think that this will turn out to be one of those deals like Turkolu and Hibbert; where we are relieved we didn't get them. I am hoping that somehow Olshey knew all along they would match and that this is part of his plan to get either Durant , Ibaka or Westbrook some day in the future.

Haha yea sure.. We can't even retain our main FA what makes u think any of those guys will come here lol

Cap space is useless in this market

People who don't dream about what might be possible probably don't have much good happen. I don't think the single case of Aldridge tells us much about who might end up in Portland.

Useless for adding top tier FA's, but cap space brought us Davis, Aminu, Harkless, and almost Kanter. That's a hell of a bench on a good team. Cap space can be beneficial if a team like ours has players already

It must be nice to still believe. There has never been one top tier FA to choose Portland

Oh yea def good for those type of players but I'm just saying I hope nobody ever believe it'll ever bring us anybody that's higher than that

Olshey is getting agent on his good side.

Whether that means much in the long run is questionable but it can't hurt. He was said to have a great relationship with LA's agent as well as Greg Monroe's. It was a win-win for Olshey and the Blazers. If OKC matches, it causes them some temp Lux Tax issues now and some negotiating issues later. What will Ibaka and Adams want if that is what Kanter is getting? That will impact OKC even as the cap goes higher. If OKC for some reason hadn't matched, Portland gets a #3 Lottery pick for nothing but salary when they don't have the cap issues the Thunder do.

Good all the way around.

Lopsided trade involving Kaman seems like the best bet at this point.

I was thinking the same, but who fits that mold of a young player that another team wants or needs to move? Ross? DeRozen?

I imagine the call going something like this:

Office of Neil Olshey: Good day, you've reached the office of Neil Olshey, General Manager of The Portland Trail Blazers, how can I help you?

Sam Presti: Sam Presti speaking, could you put Neil on the line, please?

Office of Neil Olshey: Is he expecting your call, sir?

Presti: YES! Put him on the phone, PLEASE!

Neil Olshey: Hey Samo, how the hell are ya??

Presti: Uh...hey Neil, were matching the Enes Kanter offer sheet.

Olshey: Oh? What was that? Penis cancer? I'm sorry man. (audible giggles in the back ground)

Presti: No! ENES...KANTER! .

Olshey: Oh, K-A-N-D...

Presti: No, E-N-E-S K-A-N-T-E-R, Enes Kanter!

Olshey: Oh yeah, that's right, there is no D in Kanter, is there? (audible giggles in the back ground)

Pressti: Jesus Christ! You kiddin' me?

Olshey: Maybe he can buy one with all that money of yours we just gave him. (belly laughter in the back ground)

Presti: What the fuck?

Olshey: OK, thanks for calling Sammy. Best of luck in future endeavors. Bye.

Presti: Yeah, fuck you, asshole!

Olshey: Bye now...(click)

Presti: Motherfucker!

(I reposted this from another thread because thei seemed like a better thread for this sillyness)

Olshey just saved the Thunder about $.5 million per season on Kanters max contract.

Reason, the Thunder saved 3% by matching the Blazers 4.5% raises instead of giving Kanter the bird rights 7.5% raises. That works out to about $1/2 million per season. So the $2 million per year Olshey increased over the Thunder offer was really only a $1.5 million per season increase.

Presti played his $15.5 million offer to Kanter perfectly to get out of offering him a bird rights max. Presti would save $0.5 million per season if someone made a max offer he would match, or, he would save $2 million if no one made Kanter an offer. Presti was in a win-win situation, not Olshey.

Pfft... OKC didn't want to pay Kanter more than they asked and tried bluffing.

Dunno if this was your handy work or copied from an article, but exactly. This is exactly right.

I don't think it means we won't go after McDaniels.. we have 6 wing players, 5 big men, and 2 point gaurds. Thing is though, Aminu can play the 4 and CJ will play some PG. so we could go definitly add another wing

A win win would have been if no one signed Kanter and Presti only had to pay him about 12 million per year. I don't buy that OKC was prepared to offer 15.....if they didn't have to. Let alone 17.5

And the trade kicker makes him much harder to trade.

If Toronto gives up a wing they'll want one back. They have Valincouinas (I tried) and Biyombo so they won't want another center. Id love to turn Henderson and a pick into Ross and Caboclo, however. Caboclo's only 20 and Ross would fit the new mold and could be our starting 2... Oh and he can actually SHOOT.
