Old timers day game

Welcome to our community

Be a part of something great, join today!

I really don't get why other teams don't do this. Granted no one has the legacy that the Yankees have but I think fans in other great baseball cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston & St Louis would really get a kick out of something like this.

Congrats to a real New Yorker Willie Randolph.

Agree, other teams should do it.

Where is everybody......the fans? It is empty.

Congrats, Willie. Home grown kid makes his mark.

I noticed that too, the stands look empty. Meantime Willie is giving the longest speech I ever heard.

It'll be interesting to see who's not there among the old timers.

Christ they invite any bum these days. Where's Henry Cotto?

Damn can they put the chairs that the old timers are sitting on any further away. Its okay for the younger old timers but the older ones look out of breath by the time they get to the chairs.

And its really a shame & embarrassing how empty the stands are.

The crappy weather I'm sure doesn't help. Not to mention they're doing all this when there's a 7:15pm game. Nobody wants to spend 6-7 hours at the ballpark.

Whitey was like f that I'm not walking all the way out there.

Mel is making me sad. It doesn't look like he's going to be around much longer. I didn't realize he was still so sick.

Yeah that was truly an incredible surprise they gave Mel by giving him his own plaque. I use to enjoy watching him pitch.

I'm glad they gave him that moment since he's clearly dying.

Rickey Henderson never gets old. Looks the same always.

Those missing were......

Tino Martinez
Gregg Nettles
Sparky Lyle
Ed Figueroa
Fred Stanley
Daryl Strawberry
Doc Gooden
Dave Winfield
Steve Balboni
Fritz Peterson
Jim Bouton.

Though he wasn't introduced as an old timer Andy Pettitte was there solely to walk Mel out to the field.

I did not know Mel was so ill. Hats off to Yankee
organization to give Mel a deserved honor. My heart
goes out to him and his family. Be strong....of heart.
You are a true professional and a wonderful
human being. It really hurt to watch. God speed.

I was wondering who the hell Scott Bradley was so I checked it out, in 2 seasons with the Yankees 1984 & 1985 he played in a total of 28 games with 70 at bats. This is an old timer?

LOL that's what I mean. Just invite everyone.

Just saw that including Stottlemyers honors today was the idea of Hal Steinbrenner. Glad they chose to do so, Stottlemyer was the last of the line of quality Yankee Pitchers brought up before the team went into the tank. The man was a quality pitching coach for those late '90s early oughts teams. Did not realize he was so ill, best wishes and thank you Yankees for honoring a truly gifted team contributor.

It's something I'm truly glad they did. It clearly meant so much to Mel and his family.

Weather may have played a factor with low
attendance for Old Timers Day, but I cannot
recall when the stands were empty for this event.
And please, no more night games when scheduling
Old Timers Game.
