Olshey interview with Jaynes

I wonder what the lopsided trade would be. Hope we are interested in someone like Otto Porter.

I can't even imagine how that would happen, but I'm dreaming right there with you.

Lol I've been saying it since that Interview from Neil during the Summer League game: he wants ET the primary ballhandler in the 2nd Unit, surround him with shooters, we have already 5-6 guards. Thats my theory why Baldwin get's cut. When Neil said he want's Zach closer to the Basket, from that moment i knew Ed will Go, and that's what happened. Just my oppionion
Okay so let me get this logic...
You have 5 starters, right?
And a full 2nd unit with Turner is 5 more players, right?
Since rosters can have 15 players that still leaves room for 5 players, right?

Outright releasing Baldwin makes no sense, even if you take everything into account that Olshey says because there are still 5 roster spots after that. Having 7 guards is not that outrageous. Like I've said time and time again, his role on the team or using him as trade bait is still up for debate but not waiving him.

I hear what you are saying, but I'm not sure Olshey doesn't think ET is a negative. What Olshey says publicly is likely not what he believes. Either Olshey really believes ET can be the key to the second unit, OR, Olshey is talking about it a lot hoping to drive up ET's trade value. I cannot see that there is any way to tell which it really is, but I believe Olshey sees the same things we all do and is just trying to make ET marketable.
I have listened to Olshey interviews since he arrived in Portland, and I have never seen this. The criticism he receives on s2 is that he says nothing, not that he is misleading. I'd be interested in someone finding examples of Olshey lying.

Eric Gordon and Aldridge might challenge you on that. I would hope he doesn't tell the full truth to the media as the GM of the Blazers. That would be like "Liar, Liar" (the movie).

So that means none of our other 9 bench players can handle the ball? That's rediculous.

First of all, you're dredging up serious ancient history if you are talking about Gordon. Second of all, the problem was what he said to Gordon's face ("I won't trade you"), not what he said in an interview. Dare to try and find an interview where Olshey said to the media "I'm not trading Eric Gordon?"

As for LMA, I don't know what you're talking about. Elaborate?

I just keep hoping all this talk about a larger role for Evan Turner is just some sort of smoke screen. We now have a ton of guards/wings who can actually shoot, and a guy who can distribute and defend for the second unit (Baldwin). I see no reason at all why we need anything Turner brings to the table. Trade him or bench him and give his minutes to Baldwin.

BNM

It's not a smokescreen. Our only prayer is that ET is traded, and there is only a slim chance of that.

There was a lot of speculation that Olshey knew LMA was leaving, but didn't say so because it would make him look bad. Eric Gordon said Olshey lied to him about not trading him.

My general point is that only a stupid GM would bag on his own player if he was trying to move him. Even if Olshey were truly honest I can't imagine him saying "Yeah, ET, my bad. Really screwed the pooch on that one. Overpaid and he's a terrible fit. Wish I could find a way to dump him on someone else."

The topic of conversation, at least the one I'm having, is what Olshey has said in interviews. He has never taken action that is contrary to that.

That is why Olshey interviews are so interesting, you know what he is saying is correct, but you don't necessarily know what it means at the time. For example, "We're having Zach play more inside" was actually code for "We're letting Davis go." If he actually said the latter, he'd cause and uproar, and would be doechy. He's actually farming out valuable info, but doing it in a albeit cryptic, but professional manner.

What would TT have to say regarding NO’s alleged dishonesty?

What COULD that lying ass MF have to complain about??

I just think that everything Neil was planning for was the summer of 2016.... and when that totally went bust, he has been a rudderless ship from then on.

I have no clue what he's doing. Last summer and this summer make no sense.

You always hope that there is something coming just around the corner that will make it all fit together. But, that something never seems to arrive.

Can’t wait until he starts hinting at waiting until the trade deadline. It’s coming.

It’s like being stuck on a merry go round for two years.

NO: "Well, you know most of our past trades occur just before the trade deadline . . ."

Plans based on a major overhaul don’t happen in 6 months, and it is a major overhaul when four of five starters are gone in one year.
I get it’s an instant world and I am not a fan of olshey as much as some, but I’m realistic with timelines and some around here simply are not.

I’m just saying some things have worked, some things have not. But the overall big picture has been improvement every year while searching for that final pc or two to put us over the top.

Who would’ve predicted we would land a Jusuf Nurkic? - Olshey in 2021.

Who was the last rotation player Olshey acquired? Rookies don’t count. Nurkic?

Couldn't agree more. Bunch of millennials.

Excellent post. Too much impatience in today's world. I've always heard good things come to those who wait. That can be frustrating I know. But Neil is not trying to sabotage this franchise, though it seems quite a few in here seem to have come to that conclusion. On Gallo, I love his skillset and all, but the dude can't stay on the court, at all, due to injuries. That gamble makes zero sense for the Blazers franchise and fanbase.

The team has zero plan. Their two best players are reaching their late 20s and they keep drafting 19 year old rookies.

IF Olshey is smart enough to see it the way we see it (which I am not totally convinced of) then other GMs are smart enough to see him as a net negative like we do, as well.

If you don't see two divergent directions.... I don't know what to tell you. We have a 1st team all-nba player and we're surrounding him with projects :dunno:

People said CJ was "years" from producing anything great, and when Wesley left, no one expected CJ to perform what he did.

I'm not sure they're really going in two different directions. Especially considering they *kept* the players who Trent and Simons would theoretically replace. And they just signed Nurk to 4 years.

Well Damn! Bummer to be Lebron, Cp3, or any other senior citizen in the NBA. Who knew?
