Olshey?

You don't think I could? I wanted to draft Lillard, Leonard, and CJ. I could've made the free agent signings he has.
nope...don't think you could ...if you think you're even remotely as connected to agents and scouts as Olshey, you're dreamin'....we all play armchair GM here but we're not even in his league at all...just my view. If you run for president, I'd vote for you over Trump though

Lillard was a forgone conclusion before Olshey arrived. He was being looked at heavily by Buchanon and our scouting team. And they had Allen excited about him.

Lillard was not a foregone conclusion. He was still a late-first, early-second round pick 2-3 months before the draft. We were looking at him, but to call it a foregone conclusion is way overstated. It was also my understanding NO had been scouting Dame while he was still the Clips GM.

You cannot blame Olshey when he offers Gasol $10M more than the Spurs and we still lose him. We do not get a meeting with Howard or White. You cannot blame Olshey for not attracting free agents. NO GM before him could do it either.

I can blame him for wasting so much time on someone that was never going to sign here.

You can blame him for the way he chooses to spend his cap space though. Why not use cap for trades? Why not make more trades at the last deadline if you know free agents arent gonna wanna be here?

They no doubt collaboratively got together in making the pick. He was still being actively scouted by this team for the 6th or the 11pick before his arrival.

I think we'll see that at the trade deadline after re-signing our RFAs...

What have Olsheys relationships got him exactly?

Given the Durant signing...I'd say developing young talent on friendly contracts is a long term, wise path...folks just want instant gratification...it's not Stotts fault that we haven't won a championship since he's been coach and it's not Olshey's fault that we haven't landed a superstar in the off season. I still enjoy the team and like the staff

We wont have cap space anymore. So no immediate relief to teams. Maybe if they fall in love with our collection of average talent i guess (cause im not on board with lillard or cj being traded)

Well, Olshey is obviously the worst GM of the history of the NBA right ? I've read this board the past week so I know what I'm talking about, he's awful !

Bottom line, it wasn't a bad trade. If someone thinks its a bad trade, its because they dont understand basic logic.

Yeah, it's easy to judge a trade with hindsight. I was very happy at the time.

Riverman could not have said it better myself

It really sucks how Olshey brokered the signing of Durant to the Warriors then forced Duncan to retire to clear the path for Gasol to sign with the Spurs. Damnit Olshey sucks!

I don't think that's the case (that we were considering him as high as 6 before NO arrived), but if it was, thank God for Neil. Dame was not that high on anyone's draft board a few months before the draft. Obviously, Dame was worthy of the 6 spot, but he was supposed to be a late-first, and if someone is a late-first, you don't "reach" that heavily, you simply trade back some so that you maximize the value of the selection.

Because the players being moved using capspace to absorb freakin rock right?

No, but you can pick up assets to use in the future by doing so. I gave him kudos for the varejao trade.

Cap space is kind of a failing tactic for teams like Portland. It helps if you are trading a young guy on a rookie deal for a proven guy, or it helps be a landing spot in 3 team deals. It's best to have guys on appropriate deals and lots of them, then you can consolidate. Imagine if this season Meyers and Vonleh develop and Montero shows promise. The Blazers will be forced to make some moves 2 for 1 types of things.

Yes. However, usually need assets to add to those players to make consolidation trades. Hence, why i wish we would have made more of those the past year even if they were for 2nds.

We've has a really odd stretch of years where we have been just letting players walk... That's a no no. I realize the plan was to swing big in free agency which has been reinforced more than ever to be a shaky at best plan. Shoot this wasn't even a great free agent crop!

Yep. Even robin lopez last year was let go. We had a pants shitting here saying be was overpaid, and now 13 million a year is a bargain for him and got the knicks derrick rose. Rose is obviously more name now than game, but shit.....lopez had value and we let him walk. Stupid stupid move. I hope we keep all of our rfas.

I'm being serious here...

What would it take to convince Denver to deal Bartón?

It's interesting in a lot of ways Neil's inability to land targeted FA's has actually been for the better... Hibbert, Monroe, Gasol, Zaza probably Parsons when his knee implodes.

Neil has a John Nash vibe when it comes to the FA market.

What if Olshey just used the media and those weren't ever really his number one targets?

How else do you explain his plan As being so bad and his Plan Bs being so good?

It is funny how it seems to work out that way... maybe Terry is that good of a coach?
