You can always tell a socialist.
But, you can't tell him much.

I personally don't wanna have the discussion at all.
Personally, I'm really tired of free market conservatives acting like there's this invisible hand that steers the market. It's bullshit.
Free market means free to run over the common man. Corporations are not people.

I'm not sure that the government providing something that private citizens aren't capable of providing for themselves--ie, common defense of the republic--really qualifies as "socialism".O fucking T...
Bottom line: you agree with socialism too. Our Military is the most socialist entity on the planet.

So about that one and done rule...![]()

You need to work on your conversation closing skills.
How about capitalism can be abused (like socialism and all other forms of government)? And you know the U.S. isn't a democracy, right? (hint: constitutional republic). More people need to read up on why we weren't set up as a democracy, as I'm sure they don't teach that in public schools.
This literally has nothing to do with Capitalism.
No, just correcting an all too common misconception that we live in a democracy. We don't.
FWIW, I don't really disagree with you on how capitalism is abused. I just haven't yet seen a better alternative that works consistently and maintains freedoms any better.
Now, that one and done rule?
It sucks.
A way to protect owners from themselves. I actually really struggle with this one. From a player's point of view, they should be able to get any contract they can when they finish high school, just like many other sports. But, this does place a lot of pressure on teams to take high cost bets early on to try and lock down the LeBron's and KDs of the world. You end up getting more misses than hits and that impacts the rest of the league. If I have to pick a side it would be on the free market and the only requirement would be that you can play ball (not even high school graduation, but must be at least 18) just like almost any other job.
The one and done rule was created by a business organization that chose to self-regulate.All the free market conservatives should be against a one and done rule. Let the "free hand of the market" determine the results? No need for rules right? Shit can just regulate itself?

Oh OK!

The Player's Union probably wouldn't go for it, but how about an amnesty clause for rookie contract, straight-from-HS players? That way, teams aren't stuck with gambles that don't pan out, and HS graduates have no age restriction. The teams would still waste the draft pick, but not much can be done about that.
I see your point, but thats why its important to have limited government, or limited restraints on markets. With two many regulations and restraints on commerce only stifles the growth and increase the cost of things of which the consumer takes the brunt.

Was the one-and-done rule foisted upon the NBA by external forces, or did the owners of the various franchises of a single entity (the NBA) come up with it collectively absent any governmental influence? They aren't self regulating. That was collectively agreed upon.
They don't just make rules like this themselves.

As far as I'm concerned, that's private enterprise self-regulating.

As a vet I definitely think the military is socialistic in nature...I've mentioned this before but join up and you waive a lot of rights americans enjoy....the military is absolutely patterned after socialistic principles..I'm not sure that the government providing something that private citizens aren't capable of providing for themselves--ie, common defense of the republic--really qualifies as "socialism".![]()

Who said anything about me being a republican? You give the U.S. Republican Party line as if no one disagrees. Most European capitalists disagree with your absolutism.
Try refusing to throw aerosol cans and pollutants in the ocean on a garbage rep in the navy sometime..you'll get court martialed..it's absolutely socialistic in nature...even the Nazis farmed out manufacturing to the Austrians....doesn't change the fact that uniforms and military regulations are socialistic...and you do not have freedom of speech in the military unless you also want to risk the brig....you cannot refuse a direct order even if you're correctAs a vet, I disagree.
If our military was socialistic, it would own all the factories that make their weapons and supplies.
I believe the nearest label would be "meritocracy".
You're conflating the economic system of socialism with the regulatory system of a dictatorship. Two completely different things.Try refusing to throw aerosol cans and pollutants in the ocean on a garbage rep in the navy sometime..you'll get court martialed..it's absolutely socialistic in nature...even the Nazis farmed out manufacturing to the Austrians....doesn't change the fact that uniforms and military regulations are socialistic...and you do not have freedom of speech in the military unless you also want to risk the brig....you cannot refuse a direct order even if you're correct
