One thing that I find strange about the new law if it were to pass is that I being a life long Oregon resident and legal USA citizen would have to show more ID to renew my drivers license than an illegal immigrant would have to show to get a new Oregon drivers license.

I have to show:

Social Security Card
A state certified birth certificate or a US Passport.
Previous/current Oregon drivers license
Proof of address



Illegal immigrant has to show:

Mexican birth certificate
proof of address

Good immigrants would come here legally like my father did.

You know, I think mine do also. I remember the stories about the days spent in Eilis Island.
I think it was about nine days but the stories make it seem like a year.

As I said, I see both sides. Personally I come down on the side of wanting those illegal immigrants to fit into the American puzzle that raises everybody up. If they are the types of people who really want to participate and be a positive while here, then they would be the types who would go and learn the laws, get a license and get insured. So in the end, voting no only harms those who are trying to be law abiding and a benefit in the US. Voting no will have zero effect on the illegal immigrants who aren't trying to be something better while here. So it hurts the "good" immigrants and has no effect on the "bad" immigrants.

It does not harm a "good" immigrant. They are able to get a drivers license without changing a thing.

I had to renew this year. They wanted to see my DD214 also beside my Passport. That was new for me, I think, at least I don't remember that before.

Sly, I don't think this is correct. SSN is required, however the card is not required.

Also, you are ignoring the fact that your drivers license is not the same as the illegal immigrant gets. Yours gives you more rights, so more documentation is reasonable.

Edit: Better fix this before the libertarians object. I didn't mean 'gives you more rights', I meant can be used by you for more things, as ID for voting, flying, etc.
