2024-25 College Football Playoff schedule, dates, TV channel, sitesOregon, Georgia, Boise State, Arizona State top CFP field
Oregon, Georgia, Boise State and Arizona State earned first-round byes as the first 12-team College Football Playoff field was named Sunday. Alabama and Miami were arbitrarily left out, leaving SMU breathing a huge sigh of relief as the last at-large team in.
Texas, Penn State, Notre Dame and Ohio State will host first-round on-campus games as seeds 5-8, respectively.
The Longhorns will face ACC champion Clemson (16th seed, 10-3), which catapulted into the CFP field from the No. 17 spot last week by knocking off SMU (11-2) on Saturday with a last-second 56-yard field goal to win the automatic berth.
Penn State (11-2), the sixth seed, will host SMU, with the winner facing Boise State in the quarterfinals.
Notre Dame (11-1), the seventh seed, will host Indiana (11-1), with the winner facing Georgia.
The Buckeyes (10-2), seeded eighth, will host ninth-seeded Tennessee (10-2), with the winner facing Oregon.

Yeah, If Lanny and Team pull this one off, unbelievable!Pretty wild that the only team to go undefeated in the country, who won a power-2 conference, was rewarded with a draw that is likely to put them up against the #2-4 teams with the best title odds; the last two of those being against Texas in Dallas and Georgia in Atlanta.
I'm willing to bet it'll be the most difficult draw the #1 seed will ever face in the playoffs, looking backwards or in the future.
So in years past when there was no playoff at all and just bowl games the Ducks would be looking at the national championship game at this point? Only unbeaten team and ranked #1 in the nation. They would only have to win one more game.

Is anyone really gonna tell Penn State they didn’t earn it if they blow through their games on an easier path?Good. Earn it.

Doesn't matter. You have to beat everyone if you're going to win it all. If you come out of the playoffs without a loss you flipping earned it.Is anyone really gonna tell Penn State they didn’t earn it if they blow through their games on an easier path?

Good. Earn it.
I would.
You got the #1 seed. Earn the win. No cheap wins.
People keep saying this, but this simply isn't true. You don't have to beat "everyone" to win it all. In fact, no college football team has beat everyone.Doesn't matter. You have to beat everyone if you're going to win it all. If you come out of the playoffs without a loss you flipping earned it.
I'm not sure. The rankings are so jacked up that I'm not really sure how much it matters. 1-8 are probably going to be very tough games. Its like telling the #1 seed in the NBA to play the #4 seed in the 1st round, then the other two best teams in the league the following rounds, both on the road.
But they had to beat the teams who were better than those teams. And proved it, on the field.People keep saying this, but this simply isn't true. You don't have to beat "everyone" to win it all. In fact, no college football team has beat everyone.
If Georgia wins it all, they will not have beat "everyone", because 2 of the top 4 teams will have been eliminated before they play them. So no, you don't have to beat all the toughest teams to win the championship.

And that's far better than it has ever been before.Vegas would disagree that 1-8 are mostly interchangable. There's a clear gap between the top 4 and the next group. So happens Oregon would have to play the other 3 top 4 teams with their bracket. The other side would have to play 1.
