Just read that there are 37 former Ducks on starting lineups in the NFL...that's a decent percentage...lot of QBs in the mix.

Joel understands probabilities. That seems to be a difficult concept for others around here.

I can only imagine this place if the Blazers won 70 games in the regular season, but the NBA seeded the playoffs as random draws, giving the Blazers the 3 top contenders in a row, two of which on the road.

I really don't get it.... It would be one thing if it was the same for all the teams.... but it's not. Going undefeated in the B1G is extremely hard. We're the first team to beat Michigan, OSU, and Penn State in the same season since like 2016. Our reward is an extremely hard path.
 
I think the slight of Oregon football is because it’s a sport that is absolutely revered down south in the Bible Belt as well as the rust belt.

This team comes along with flashy uniforms from a historically hippie haven in Eugene, in a big time liberal (perceived by people from those places) state.

They don’t take Oregon as a serious contender is why we’re slighted so much by the national narrative.

Just random thought that popped into my head.

I don't think anybody is suggesting it's perfect or the way it should be. It's going to be hard. And it's going to be fixed in the next couple of years.

If the choice was to either have a 4 team playoff or have the Blazers win 70 games and be involved in a 16 team playoff, Even though they might have to play some of the better teams, along the way, I would still prefer the 16 team playoff and be more excited to watch it than I would be to complain about it.

Every system we've had has been inefficient and worse than what we have this year. Yeah, it would be great if we could just crown the highest ranked team with the best record as the champion like we used to. Great, the Ducks would be champions already.

But the reality is, this is a better situation than we had last year. And any year prior. And it's going to get better over the next few years.

That has nothing to do with understanding probabilities. I know full well but they have a tougher path than some other teams. But all of the remaining 8 teams after the first round will be very good teams who will be capable of beating anybody else.

It has everything to do with just being grateful that we have a legitimate playoff this season and that they didn't let little details like this prevent a legitimate playoff.

I'm excited to watch the Ducks play three really good teams on their way to winning a national championship. I hope they can get it done.

It is clearly better than anything in the past. And I agree, it will get fixed. But the slight on Oregon is glaring and obvious. It’s complete crap that the best team in college football not only doesn't get the easiest path, but will likely have the toughest path to be able to win it all.
With that said, I think Lanning will embrace this. I mean, if we do run the table and take out Georgia/Ohio st and whoever comes from the other side, this will go down as the greatest single season in college football in history.
How cool would that be!!!???

We agree on a lot of things:

1) 12 teams is better than 4.
2) Excited to watch Oregon play
3) They playoff is likely to improve it's format.

Me pointing out what I believe are facts about how unfavorable the #1 draw is, isn't me saying they should go back to the BCS. My biggest push back is to anyone who (inaccurately) says "you have to beat all the best teams to win a championship." That just simply isn't true, though it might be for Oregon.

True. But I think what people mean when they say that is you're going to either beat all the good teams or you're going to have to beat the team who beat those good teams.

Yes, I agree, we have to beat more of those perceived good teams, and the system should be fixed to prevent that in the future.

I get that, but without a fuss, especially with the NCAA committee, it is likely to happen again if the noise isn't deafening. Sometimes it take full throttled vociferousness to get old goats to change their absurd ways. I'd prefer this to be the last year with such lopsided brackets, not have it go on for another 5 years. Hence, the noise.

It's already going to be changed. Harping on it does nothing.

It means nothing today. Just win. The rest is a waste of time.

Ohio State and Texas proved they aren’t the best teams by losing to Michigan and Georgia.

Frankly, a random “re-seed” after the first round or whatever is luck of the draw as well.

Let’s assume Penn State beats SMU. How do we really know they’re any better than Boise State … unless they played?

also, what if they play and Boise State wins?

all of a sudden, a re-seed based on human conjecture doesn’t look so good, does it?

This is the issue with lack of OOC premium matchups. We really have no clue how these teams stack up against each other.

what if Clemson beats Texas?

Notre Dame looks better than Tennessee and Ohio State including the terrible loss to NIU

Here are the championship odds, per Las Vegas:

Penn St and Notre Dame had much worse odds a week ago, but they moved up after being put on such a weak side of the bracket. The odds imply there are 4 teams in a nearly equal tier. 3 of those 4 teams are in the upper half of the bracket.

What's not to get?

You understand probabilities, right? Of course there can be upsets, and there likely will be a couple if you play 12 games. There is a 12-13 game body of work and tons of advanced metrics that support why Texas is better than Boise St.

If you think these games are all coin flips, lets make some wagers.
